Le Touquet…So close to home, yet so different
Hotel Le Westminster is an iconic five-star hotel in a 1930’S Art Deco building in the heart of the upmarket resort of Le Touquet.

Le Touquet is known in France as “the beach of Paris” and also the home town of President Macron, and Hotel Le Westminster has been a favourite among my clients for decades. It’s the focal point of the resort and a two-minute walk from the bars and restaurants going towards the beach and even closer to the shops, casino and restaurants going away from the beach. The hotel also features a Michelin-starred restaurant, a brasserie, a spa and an indoor pool.
The hotel has 115 rooms and suites that are individually designed and decorated with original artworks and luxurious fabrics. Each room has a private bathroom and offers a view of the resort gardens or the lighthouse. The rooms are equipped with a flatscreen TV, a DVD player, a minibar, a safe and free Wi-Fi. The suites also have a separate living area and a step-out balcony.
Le Westminster is perfectly-placed for the 45 holes at Le Touquet Golf Club, the 36 holes at Hardelot and the 18 at Wimereux, Belle Dune and Saint Omer…. All told 135 holes of golf within a 2-45 minute radius. Three of the courses are rated among Europe’s finest.
Le Westminster features two restaurants to cater for different tastes and occasions Le Pavillon is the hotel’s signature restaurant, led by Michelin-starred chef William Elliott It offers a creative and refined cuisine that showcases the best of local and seasonal products. The restaurant has an intimate and elegant atmosphere with crisp white tablecloths, sparkling silverware and views of the gardens. La Table du West is a more casual and relaxed option serving lunch and dinner in a convivial setting.
The bar is a great place to start the evening in an elegant setting with hotel residents and locals coming to see and be seen.
The hotel has an indoor pool that is heated all year round and there is also a fitness centre with modern equipment. Guests can also relax in the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi or spa treatment rooms where you can indulge in massages, facials, body wraps and other therapies that use natural and organic products from Nuxe Spa. For those who want to explore the surroundings, the hotel provides bicycles for rent.

The best of the best are Le Touquet La Mer, Hardelot Les Pins and Belle Dune – two links and a forest course and all very different in look and challenge. For an easier golf itinerary, choose to play the gorgeous Hardelot Les Dunes and Le Touquet La Foret. For pure links, you can’t go wrong with Wimereux and if you want a parkland test to warm up or wind down ask me to book Saint Omer which is just 35 minutes south of Calais and a regular host to the Challenge Tour.

Deauville…Where Parisian chic meets seaside fun
Under three hours from Calais and just 45 minutes from the port of Caen, Deauville is one of the premier resorts in France. With easy access from Paris and delightful neighbouring destinations like Trouville, Honfleur and Cabourg as well as the bucolic Normandy scenery, Deauville is a fabulous place to enjoy La Belle Vie
Hotel Le Normandy
Le Normandy in the very centre of Deauville resort is one of the most beautiful large hotels I’ve visited. Popular with well-heeled tourists and weekend visitors from Paris, Le Normandy is a class act from start to finish. Thankfully, my rates also make the Normandy very affordable.
Within the huge timber-framed manor house there are 188 bedrooms with 11 room categories to satisfy every budget. All the bedrooms are extremely elegant and the hotel is looking as fresh as a daisy after a recent top-to-bottom renovation.
The restaurant serves a substantial buffet breakfast and lunch and dinner are more refined affairs. For non-golfers and apres-golf, there’s a spa and indoor pool and hotel residents also have access to the full-sized Olympic pool on the adjacent beach. The hotel is at the heart of the resort so there are cafes, restaurants and smart shops on your doorstep as well as the famous casino, theatre and a few bars to try if you don’t have an early tee-time in the morning!
An excellent choice for a top-quality hotel and an ideal venue for a celebration.
Golf in the area is mostly mature parkland with a touch of American target-golf. Deauville Golf Club, with 27 holes, is approaching 100 years old and has hosted the French Open. Saint Julien is a very scenic parkland meandering over ancient orchards, L’Amiraute would be the Jean-Paul Gaultier of French golf courses with its modern target-golf design and statues lining the course. Further afield is the secluded and beautiful forest course of Champ de Bataille (with an amazing chateau to visit too) and I also enjoy the occasional game at the 36- hole club of Omaha Beach and mix that with a trip to the Normandy Landing Beaches and WWII museum in Caen

Hotel du Golf
I’ve worked with Hotel du Golf for over 30 years and it’s always been a relaxing and rewarding place to stay. Combining a stylish atmosphere with the unique “feel” of an upmarket golf hotel, you can play your favourite sport and enjoy fine dining, great comfort and a superb location at the same time.
Hotel du Golf sits on Mont Canisy which overlooks the racecourse, glamorous beach resort of Deauville and the adjacent and vibrant port resort of Trouville…All within a three-minute drive. The hotel itself pays homage to the traditions of golf with a heavy accent on Scottish tartans and very comfortable furnishings. There are 11 bedroom categories; from the 30m2 Superior bedroom to the 66m2 Deluxe Terrace Suite complete with lounge and private terrace. All the bedrooms are suitably equipped for a quality four-star hotel.
Le Lassay is a gorgeous and huge dining room overlooking the golf course. The Club House is perfect for a hearty lunch and Le Green Bar is cosy enough for you to want to stay there all evening.

As well as the golf, outdoor pool, bikes, padel and tennis courts at the hotel, residents of Hotel du Golf have full access to the Barriere facilities in the resort including the Olympic Pool, the Thalasso pool and the impressive tennis club. Other local attractions (payable) are: the 1000m2 indoor (plus 6 hectares outside) Dama Factory with its myriad of family activities, karting and water experiences. The haunting WWII memorials and museums at Caen are within reach and can be combined with a round at the nearby 36-hole club at Omaha Beach.

Dinard…The jewel on the Emerald Coast

The 86 air-conditioned rooms and suites of Le Grand Hotel offer a view of the sea, the town or the charming private garden. Bedrooms start at 25m2 Superior and work up to the 50m2 Junior Suite Sea View. All elegantly decorated.
At the restaurant Le George V, enjoy sophisticated dining in one of Dinard’s most iconic restaurants preceded by a “loosener” at the cocktail bar “Le 333”. And there’s a great host of restaurants in the resort as well as five with Michelin-stars within 10 miles of the resort.

For golf, Northern Brittany is seriously under-estimated. The likes of Dinard, Val Andre and Granville are rated among the Top 100 (out of 650 golf courses) in France, and Saint Malo, Les Ormes and Saint Cast are great fun to play. For quiet fairways on links and parkland courses, Northern Brittany is perfect.

La Baule…One of the most beautiful bays in the world
A beautiful beach-front hotel, Hotel l’Hermitage in La Baule provides the perfect base for clients looking for high-quality and a relaxed ambience. An official member of the UNESCO “most beautiful bay in the world” club, La Baule also boasts the longest beach in Europe
The 200 bedrooms come in 12 different categories (from 25m2 to 80m2) so there’s bound to be a type and budget for you. All the bedrooms are refined and stylish. Completely refurbished in 2019 by the celebrated Chantal Peyrat, the look is soft, light and luxurious
Literally on the beach of the famous bay and just 50 yards from the Atlantic Ocean at high tide, the accent from the kitchen is decidedly sea-faring. There are three restaurants to choose from at the hotel with my favourite being the beachfront Eden Beach. You should also consider the gourmet restaurant at the sister-hotel of Castel Marie Louise just a short walk away.
For leisure, Hotel Barriere l’Hermitage has everything for everyone – seawater indoor and outdoor pools, a beach-side gym, spa, beach and sea sports, a world-class tennis and equestrian centre just a short walk away, bike hire and also access to famous Royal Spa.

For golf, you’re spoilt with 36 holes at La Baule, a lovely parkland at La Bretesche, the superb links at Saint Jean de Monts and the charming members’ club of Nantes La Vigneux. Previous host to the French Open, both courses at La Baule are parkland in style and about 7000 yards off the tiger tees, but the older Lucien Barriere course (Blue) is easier off the. The Diane Barriere-Desseigne (Red) course is narrower and has more water but again mixes the tough challenge with the fair to make a good course. La Bretesche is a delight to play with its wide and flat tree-lined fairways and beautiful trees. Saint Jean de Monts is one of the best links in France and is well-worth the drive of about an hour and Nantes La Vigneux is a subtle and quite tight woodland course close to the ancient city.

Marrakech…Sunshine golf throughout the year
With a place among the Leading Small Hotels of the World, the Naoura Barriere offers top-level comfort, service and style in beautiful surroundings There are only 85 bedrooms (plus 54 in the Ryads) so the ambience is intimate but it’s just a short walk from the hustle, bustle and magic of one of the world’s most fascinating, exciting and cultural cities. So you have a peaceful haven whilst being within easy reach of a great night out. Daytime temperatures rarely fall below 20 C throughout the year.
The Superior bedrooms (46m2) are located on the garden level or first floor, and they are all extended by a large terrace with view of the pool. There’s a spa and the attractions of Marrakech are just a ten-minute walk from the oasis of your hotel.
Marrakech is world-renowned for food and Naoura features Fouquet’s (Parisian brasserie), the poolside Le Wardya and the Nuphar Bar Terrific value for my clients, the Naoura Barriere is the perfect choice if you’re looking for luxury, location and a choice of golf courses while keeping within a very reasonable budget.

As well as the sunshine and amazing evening entertainment with bars, restaurants, cabarets and nightclubs, Marrakech is brilliant for golf too. I rate six of the local courses as worthy of the most avid golfer and four of the remaining clubs are easy-onthe-eye and very well maintained
You’ve got the sunshine, impressive clubhouses, big name designers and Europeanstandard maintenance with green fees about half of what you’d pay for similar standard courses in Portugal and Spain. No wonder golf in Marrakech is ever more appealing.
