La República Dominicana se ha convertido en el protagonista del PGA TOUR en el Caribe. Todo un honor ya que pocos destinos y campos del mundo cuentan con las características apropiadas para recibir el tour más importante de golf a nivel mundial. El elegido fue el campo de golf Corales, de Puntacana Resort & Club. Un espectacular lugar diseñado por el afamado Tom Fazio, arquitecto de campos de golf y quien es creador de más de 120 campos, con un récord personal de más de 100 clasificados entre los mejores en los Estados Unidos. Desarrollar el golf ha sido una parte importante de la visión de Puntacana Resort & Club, por eso la alianza con la PGA TOUR marcó un antes y un después, elevando la imagen del país como el mejor destino de golf del Caribe. Su experiencia en el sector turístico, como vicepresidente Ejecutivo de la Asociación de Hoteles y Turismo de la República Dominicana (ASONAHORES), aunado a su pasión por el deporte del golf, el que juega desde niño, hacen que Andrés R. Marranzini Grullón, tenga una amplia visión sobre el beneficio del turismo de golf para República Dominicana, el cual expresa en esta entrevista exclusiva para GOLFISTAS DOMINICANOS, planteando la situación actual del golf en el país, su crecimiento y las estrategias para incrementar las rondas de golf en nuestros espectaculares campos de golf.
Andrés R. Marranzini Grullón, es abogado de profesión, egresado de la Universidad Iberioamericana (UNIBE), con maestría en Derecho Corporativo y estudios post grado en negocios, ambos de la Universidad de Nueva York (NYU). Previo a su designación en ASONAHORES, Andrés Marranzini desarrolló su práctica jurídica en el bufete de abogados de su padre, Oficina Marranzini. Ha tenido varias funciones públicas, entre ellas, ha sido viceministro de Trabajo. En adición, colabora con diferentes asociaciones sin fines de lucro, como la Asociación Dominicana de Rehabilitación y la Fundación Palo Quitao. Es miembro de la Junta de directores de diferentes empresas e Golfistas Dominicanos

instituciones como son el Instituto Nacional de Formación Técnico Profesional (INFOTEP), el Consejo de Fomento Turístico (CONFOTUR), la Junta de Aviación Civil, entre otras. GOLFISTAS DOMINICANOS: ¿Cuáles eran las cifras de visitantes que jugaban al golf en República Dominicana previo a la pandemia y cuál ha sido la recuperación a la fecha? Andrés Marranzini: En el registro de 2018, nuestro mejor año como referencia, vimos crecer nuestra industria de golf turístico en un 17%, de acuerdo a las estadísticas
Reportaje de la International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO). A República Dominicana vinieron 230,000 golfistas y sus acompañantes. Asumieron más de 289,000 rondas en nuestro país durante una visita turística, teniendo como resultado que IAGTO, haya votado en el 2019 a la República Dominicana como el “Destino de Golf del año 2019 para América Latina y el Caribe”; cabe la nota que es la cuarta ocasión que recibimos esa mención. El impacto económico que tienen esas visitas en nuestra economía es importante. Ha sido estimada en unos 390 millones de dólares al año. La punta de lanza de nuestra recuperación en el mundo de golf, no hay dudas que fue el hecho de tener, en menos de 12 meses, dos torneos de la PGA en el país, el Corales Puntacana Championship. En un momento de cierre parcial, esto colocó los ojos del mundo en República Dominicana y su golf. Con poco que hacer y ver, tuvimos cifras extraordinarias de visitas y búsquedas de nuestro destino ligado al golf. GD: ¿ASONAHORES, conjuntamente con los hoteles y los campos de golf, han trazado planes de futuro para atraer más turistas de golf al país? AM: Cada propiedad/complejo tiene su propia estrategia de promoción corporativa, por supuesto. Pero como país hacemos trabajos de promoción ligados a las actividades de manera específica. Esto ocurre en una mesa público/privada de mercadeo y promoción, junto al Ministerio de Turismo. Me explico, tenemos montado una estrategia República Dominicana, Lo tiene todo. Sobre esa plataforma vamos a los destinos internos ya sea Samaná, Cabarete, Punta Cana, Bayahibe… y luego vamos a los segmentos de actividades específicas como el golf, deportes extremos, bodas, reuniones, y así vamos captando de manera estratégica los posibles interesados en nuestro destino o desarrollar las actividades de interés en nuestro país. Teniendo mayor eficiencia en el gasto y retorno de los fondos invertidos en promoción país.
tuvimos hace algunos años. Recientemente, hemos tenido el privilegio de una parada del PGA Tour en el campo diseñado por Tom Fazio, Corales, dentro de Puntacana Resort & Club. Esto último, sumado a otras joyas en el país como Teeth of the Dog, en Casa de Campo, la última obra de arte de Robert Trent Jones en Playa Grande y Vistas Golf Club, recientemente abierto para los turistas, en la ciudad de Santo Domingo. Definitivamente, esto nos hace especiales; provoca que todo viajero que busca 3 0 4 rondas extraordinarias en un viaje de amigos tenga nuestro país como una opción. Además, por todas las actividades que pueden complementar esa visita de golf junto a las comodidades que ofrecen nuestros hoteles y complejos turísticos. GD: ¿Qué le recomendarías a un turista que le guste jugar al golf si piensa viajar a República Dominicana? AM: Que incorpore el multi-destino interno, que explore nuestra isla. Que empiece su viaje en el este, pero que no deje de visitar Cabrera, Puerto Plata, Santo Domingo con

Antes de terminar nuestra interesante conversación con Andrés Marranzini, a quien hemos visto jugar al golf desde hace muchos años y en múltiples torneos de golf, le pedimos que nos cuente sobre sus inicios en este deporte y sus preferencias al jugar, y expresa: “Mi primer profesor fue Gilles Gagnon, en Casa de Campo. Lo recuerdo como ayer. Mi abuelo materno, Bienvenido Grullón, fue ejecutivo del Central Romana Corporation por muchos años y yo pasaba los veranos en el campamento de Casa de Campo. Ahí conocí el golf. Debía tener unos 8 o 9 años en ese entonces. Hoy en día soy hándicap 2. Lo que más me gusta del golf es la oportunidad de estar al aire libre, es la excusa perfecta para compartir con amigos y conocer futuros amigos, pero lo que más me gusta es el sentimiento indescriptible de un golpe perfecto, ese que te hace volver. Me gusta el golf competitivo y el golf social. Me encanta

PRESENTS HIS EXPERT VISION ON GOLF TOURISM IN THE COUNTRY
His experience in the tourism sector, as Executive Vice President of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES), coupled with his passion for the sport of golf, which he has played since he was a child, makes Andrés R. Marranzini Grullón has a broad vision on the benefit of golf tourism for the Dominican Republic, which he expresses in this exclusive interview for GOLFISTAS DOMINICANOS, outlining the current situation of golf in the country, its growth and the strategies to increase the rounds of golf in our spectacular golf courses. Andrés R. Marranzini Grullón, is a lawyer, graduated from the Universidad Iberioamericana (UNIBE), with a master’s degree in Corporate Lacoraw and post-graduate studies in business, both from New York University (NYU). Prior to his appointment in ASONAHORES, Andrés Marranzini developed his legal practice at his father’s law firm, Oficina Marranzini. He has had several public functions, among them, he has been Vice Minister of Labor. In addition, he collaborates with different non-profit associations, such as the Dominican Rehabilitation Association and the Palo Quitao Foundation. He is a member of the Board of Directors of different companies and institutions such as the National Institute of Professional Technical Training (INFOTEP), the Tourism Development Council (CONFOTUR), the Civil Aviation Board, among others.

The PGA Ocean’s 4 course has 18 original holes extends to 7,334 yards and presents golfers with four unique and different landscapes – tropical forest, lakes and waterfalls amid a parkland-style setting, desert with rocks and sand, and seaside as four holes run along the Caribbean Sea with coconut palms and white sand beaches. Pink Golf Tour DR, is the first private women’s golf circuit open to all ladies in the Dominican Republic, where they can enjoy in a competitive and exclusive space. In 2021, the Tour successfully closed its 5th season, having a record of attendance during its events, motivating many ladies to join this discipline and raising players game level. Coordinating to start the 6th. Tour season, GOLFISTA DOMINICANOS interviewed its president, Elizabeth Pérez, who ten years ago discovered her passion for this sport, and together with the other board members, every day she is more committed to improving the benefits of the Tour. GOLFISTAS DOMINICANOS: How has this first year been for you as president of the board of the Pink Golf Tour DR? ELIZABETH PÉREZ: This first year has been very special not only for me, but for the Pink Golf Tour, which has grown a lot in its community and has awakened international interests from women’s leagues and federations that contact us. As president, I have roles and responsibilities, but in the Board of Directors we work hand in hand as a large family with common goals. We are a great team! GD: Tell us how was the 2021 experience for the Tour, and how was the transition from the start of the season to the final event.
EP: In 2021 we reached our 5th season; as we continued with the theme of the pandemic it was different, we had to reinvent a Tour with regional competitions so as not to crowd many players and so that they did not have to travel very far. We started with a big Welcome Event and then we went to three regionals in different zones: North, East and Santo Domingo. We finish with a competition event at Vistas Golf & Country Club and a great final event at La Cana Golf Club, where we reward the loyalty of our players, the 5th season winners and the ones of the last competition, the 2021 Champions and Subchampions, to whom we gave the Pink Bags and the grand prize and recognition to “The Winner of the Pink Jacket” that this year went to Mariel Villalona. GD: This Women’s Tour has an unprecedented membership in the country, what messages do you want to send to the ladies who are not members of Pink yet? EP: The Pink Golf Tour main objective is to unite all the players in the country in a healthy, clean and respected competition; the FEDOGOLF support and the enthusiasm and discipline of our players have been fundamental. We keep the handicaps updated, we make competition tournaments to add points in the ranking and we see our players growth, like someone’s who started as new golfers just two years ago and are already in category C. We have high-performance competitive players such as those from the A and many from the AA, because Golfistas Dominicanos

while it is true that we have fun it is also true, and most importantly, that we compete. And it is one of the great achievements that our players (we have a community of 215 golfers) become more and more competitive, that they post their scores and practice to be better every day in this exciting game that is golf. I recommend to all the ladies who have not played yet that they take the opportunity to learn to play golf and enjoy something that will change their lives. GD: Has Pink’s board of directors considered carrying out joint activities with groups of female golfers from other countries? GOLF COURSE, En la costa norte de la República Dominicana, encontramos una joya a orillas del Océano Atlántico y protegida por la montaña Isabel de Torres, el Playa Dorada Golf Course. Inaugurado en el año 1976, el campo está ubicado dentro del complejo turístico Playa Dorada, en la ciudad de Puerto Plata, rodeado de importantes hoteles y villas, a tan solo 15 minutos del Aeropuerto Internacional Gregorio Luperón.
El diseño del campo es de la firma de uno de los más famosos arquitectos de campos de golf de la historia, el inglés-estadounidense Robert Trent Jones Sr., quien a lo largo de su carrera diseñó o rediseñó más de 500 campos de golf en 45 estados de Estados Unidos y otros en 35 países alrededor del mundo. El Playa Dorada Golf Course es un fantástico campo de 18 hoyos, par 72, que se extiende en unas 6,990 yardas de terrenos relativamente
llanos y muy versátiles, donde el agua y las trampas entran en juego para demostrar las habilidades del jugador. De las bases azules, el jugador juega 6,765 yardas; de las verdes 6,309; de las blancas 5,924 y de las rojas 5,345 yardas. En el año 2020, los propietarios del campo invirtieron en unas excelentes mejoras, haciendo nuevos “tees” de salida para aumentar la cantidad de yardas del campo y adecuarlo al juego de golfistas
profesionales. Los fairways del campo son anchos y poco accidentados, destacando su excelente cuidado y una exuberante jardinería. Es un campo ideal para jugadores de todos los niveles, aunque ofrece bastante desafío. Con vistas al impresionante hoyo 18, el campo tiene 2 restaurantes, el Tee Off, que ofrece una experiencia gastronómica italiana y cuenta con un humidor de cigarros Premium muy bien surtido; y el Fairways Bar & Restaurant ubicado en la

Overlooking the impressive 18th hole, the course has 2 restaurants, the Tee Off, which offers an Italian cuisine experience and features a well-stocked Premium cigar humidor; and the Fairways Bar & Restaurant located in the Club House, open to offer the best service to players during their game. The course also has practice areas such as the Driving Range, Pitching Green, Chipping Green and Putting Green. Players have the facility to rent the complete equipment of quality golf clubs, trollies and golf carts. The Playa Dorada Golf Course has been selected to carry out important national and international tournaments, highlighting that it has hosted, on four occasions, the PGA Tour Latin America Event, receiving professional players from 20 American countries at the “Puerto Plata Open”. Golf between the Sea and Lakes. The combination of the dense green, the quiet lakes, the proximity of the Caribbean Sea and the tropical forest, is what impacts the most of this majestic tour with four combined scenarios: Parkland, Scottish Links, Caribbean and Desert. The designer’s idea was to combine four styles of holes in different environments, so that the course begins with Parkland-type holes 2,3,4 completely surrounded by lakes and waterfalls, then Caribbean-type the 4 holes that border the Caribbean Sea next to the 9 and 18 which would also fit into a Links type course and finally, a Desert type would be completed by holes 11, 14 and 15, in whose landscape large rocks and sand stand out.

Player included some unique features within its design in Guavaberry; a 4.6-meter waterfall that falls into the quarry of a lake on hole 13, with indigenous coral rock formations on holes 9 and 18, has a threehectare lagoon, with the green from hole 15 within it.

El campo es también conocido como Quintas de Primavera siendo el único de su tipo en la República Dominicana. El terreno montañoso del campo exige un poco de escalada durante el recorrido, haciendo de Jarabacoa un desafío singular para golfistas de cualquier nivel. Este campo citadino constituye una “joya” en medio de un escenario de sembradíos de tabaco que bordean el sur de Santiago con ‘doglegs’ sofisticados y barreras naturales; también con una vista panorámica maravillosa a Santiago, el Valle del Cibao, la cordillera Septentrional, con su Pico Diego de Ocampo, y al río Yaque del Norte. El terreno ondulado de Las Aromas crea suaves colinas y pendientes a lo largo del campo, así como tees y greens elevados. Aunque es un campo bastante corto, los fairways estrechos, los greens pequeños y numerosas trampas lo convierten en uno de los más difíciles en el país. This city field constitutes a “jewel” in the middle of a scene of tobacco fields that border the south of Santiago with sophisticated ‘doglegs’ and natural barriers; also with a wonderful panoramic view of Santiago, the Cibao Valley, the Septentrional mountain range, with its Diego de Ocampo mountain, and the Yaque del Norte river. The rolling terrain of Las Aromas creates gentle hills and slopes throughout the course, as well as elevated tees and greens. Although it is a fairly short course, the narrow fairways, small greens and numerous bunkers make it one of the most difficult in the country.

Situado en el centro de 14 hoteles, uno de ellos dentro del mismo campo, se encuentra esta acogedora cancha de golf en un terreno ondulante diseñado en forma muy versátil, con muchas salidas, que a veces lo hacen ser fácil y otras muy difíciles, donde el agua y las trampas de arena entran en acción para poner a prueba el nivel de juego de cada visitante. Dentro de sus peculiaridades se destacan la madurez de su terreno con 30 años de existencia, donde se levantan majestuosos árboles de caoba, ceibas, cocoteros, uvas de playa, palmeras, cayenas gigantes, flamboyanes y, sobre todo, la espectacular vista que ofrece hacia la montaña Isabel de Torres, así como la belleza del mar que circunda el campo, además de un pequeño bosque húmedo y varios lagos, que convierten este campo en todo un parque natural. El exuberante terreno posee numerosos árboles centenarios y palmas reales. En el nuevo diseño, los últimos cinco hoyos se juegan a la orilla del mar.
