SURREY
THE ADDINGTON GOLF CLUB
205 SHIRLEY CHURCH ROAD | CROYDON | SURREY | CR0 5AB
Currently ranked at 40 in Golf World’s Top 100 Courses England, The Addington is the flagship course in The Altonwood Group’s portfolio.
With a rich and interesting history, The Addington was designed by JF Abercromby in 1913 and first opened for play in 1919, soon becoming a favourite of the rich and famous. Reaching its heyday in the 1930s, it was written about by many famous writers of the time and played host to film stars, golfing legends and even royalty - King George VI became Patron in 1937!
Today, having commenced a 5 year restoration programme resulting in the rebuilding of bunkers, a new irrigation system and a woodland management programme to expose some of the
magnificent pine trees that are a feature of the course, The Addington presents a golfing experience you will not forget.
A par 69, 6,300 yard course, affording expansive views of the metropolis from hilltop tees like those at the 14th and 16th, The Addington’s fairways wander through mature pine and birch trees to create a feeling of intimacy in stark contrast to the looming mast of Crystal Palace and the backdrop provided by the NatWest Tower, Canary Wharf and the Shard, just 12 or so miles away.
Having retained its heath land beauty & restored wooden bridges which are a feature throughout, The Addington invites you to walk a course virtually unchanged since its creation.

SURREY NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
ROOK LANE | CHALDON | SURREY | CR3 5AA
Covering in excess of 200 acres, Surrey National is a Championship course approaching 7,000 yards from the Championship tees and 6,300 from the daily play tees. Designed by leading golf course architect, David Williams, the course meanders through dramatic rolling countryside, populated by thousands of mature trees which further enhance the appeal of the setting.
Carefully positioned bunkers, raised tees, tree lined fairways and two teasingly placed lakes, mean a good test for golfers of all abilities. Although the contours of the site are dramatic, the clever use of these natural assets ensures that the vast majority of the holes are played either level or downhill, with only one real uphill shot – that being a short pitch to the raised green on the 2nd.

TYRRELLS WOOD GOLF CLUB
When Tyrrells Wood Golf Club was formed in 1924, the original course had been designed by five times Open Champion James Braid, one of the most respected and prolific course designers of his day. Improvements were also designed by Harry Colt.
Although the course has undergone continuous improvement over the years, care has been taken to preserve Braid’s unique approach to green and bunker design.
Tyrrells Wood is located on the edge of the North Downs and in common with much of the area has a chalk subsoil, which provides extremely good drainage. The typical downland nature of the area was transformed by the
substantial tree planting programme implemented in the late 19th century, to provide a unique downland/ parkland character.
There are few finer places in Surrey to play golf among the specimen trees which frame magnificent views of the surrounding countryside.
The club is continually re-investing to ensure we maintain the excellent conditions of the course and the superb standards of the Grade II listed clubhouse. Our facilities offer Pro Shop, Private Dining Rooms, Lounge Bar and 19th Hole bars, spacious Changing Rooms and a beautiful Terrace overlooking the 18th green.

The unusual double 9th and 18th greens play out in front of the clubhouse and make for interesting gallery viewing!
A par 71 course in excess of 6,000 yards long from the yellow tees, the course has a number of tricky par 3’s in particular the 2nd which offers an elevated shot to a green

PORTERS PARK GOLF CLUB
SHENLEY HILL | RADLETT | HERTFORDSHIRE | WD7 7AZ
Porters Park is a classic 6,529 yard parkland course constructed in 1899. Its early design was influenced heavily by John Henry ‘JH’ Taylor, one of the pioneers of the modern game, and Charles Kenneth Cotton who went on to become one of the UK’s most distinguished post-war golf architects.
Located on the fringes of Radlett village yet in close proximity to London and outlying counties, the course sits in the tranquil Hertfordshire countryside surrounded by mature woodland and fields.
Picturesque, tree lined, fairways make effective use of the natural contours and undulations of the land and, with magnificent greens and a brook weaving through many holes, the course conspires to present a fair but testing challenge to golfers of all abilities.
Inspiring and playable throughout the year, its base of loam clay, sand and gravel gives the course a natural and remarkable ability to recover quickly from the heaviest of rain. As a result, temporary greens and tees are never in use and our course rarely closes.
The club has hosted regional Open Championship qualifying events on six occasions, is home to a number of prestigious amateur events, and is officially recognised by England Golf as one of Hertfordshire’s finest courses.
Porters Park offers a true test of golf where thought, accuracy and course management form some of the essential ingredients for an enjoyable game. Visitors and societies are always welcome and the club can be contacted directly to discuss membership opportunities.

VERULAM GOLF CLUB
Our challenging par 72 course was designed by James Braid in 1905 so we are now well into our second century as a thriving members’ club situated in the heart of historic St Albans, known as Verulamium in Roman times.
Verulam is an established parkland course that has matured over the years to provide a stern test of all aspects of the game. At all holes the tee shot sets a premium on accuracy and shot control leading to the approach to the greens that are well protected by bunkers, slopes and mounds. Once on the green there are subtle undulations that are true and fast. Out of bounds is a danger at many holes and there are tree plantations, water and the River Ver to be negotiated. Verulam presents an excellent

and interesting test of golf offering a tough challenge even to the experienced golfer as evidenced in the Amateur and Professional course records of 67 and 66 respectively.
At 6,429 yards from the Medal tees the course is not long. The course has a good drainage record with very few hole and course closures in the winter and in summer the ball really does run on the fast well-manicured fairways. The best scores result from being straight and having a good short game rather than long hitting that doesn’t follow the fairway. Recent drainage works on greens have improved the course even further, coupled with an extensive bunker project including a dedicate bunker irrigation system.
Other Facilities
There is an extensive driving range and practice chipping, bunker and putting greens surrounding the traditional clubhouse.

WELWYN GARDEN CITY GOLF CLUB
In its Centenary year, Welwyn Garden City Golf Club has a reputation for consistently providing members and guests with a course that is one of the best in Hertfordshire. Our classic parkland course is renowned for its undulating, tree-lined fairways, fair and true greens and fantastic drainage, allowing year round play and therefore a great venue for winter visitors and societies. With a reservoir ensuring irrigation of the course is not a problem at any time of the year, the Club is well equipped to cope with most weather conditions.
The course is 6100 yards from the back tees, par 70 for men and par 72 for ladies, with the red tees measuring 5227. With five testing par-3s, four of them over 180 yards from the back tees, the
relatively short yardage can be misleading. Narrow fairways and small, undulating greens make it a fine and fair test for golfers of all standards.
We pride ourselves on being the only members’ club in the Welwyn and Hatfield area, providing a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Members and visitors can enjoy a relaxing drink on our patio, with stunning views over the 17th fairway, or a sit down meal prepared by our head chef upstairs in our dining room with panoramic views across the course.
We are proud to be the home club of six-time Major winner Sir Nick Faldo and two-time Portugal Masters champion, European Tour and PGA Tour professional, Tom Lewis.

DENHAM GOLF CLUB
Denham Golf Club is one of the leading parkland courses in Buckinghamshire.
The Club was founded in 1910 when work on the construction of the course started and existing farm buildings dating back to the 16th Century were converted into a clubhouse.
The parkland course, designed by Harry Colt, opened for play on the 29th May 1911. It challenges golfers of all abilities whilst being very playable and benefits from players being able to start from both the 1st and 10th tees due to their close proximity to the Clubhouse. The course measures 6,488 yards par 70 for the men and 5,604yds par 71 for the ladies.
The course has a gravel sub-structure so it drains very well and is therefore rarely closed. This leads to a fast running course in
the summer, rewarding ‘bump and run’ golfing skills.
At the Club’s request, a railway station called Denham Golf Club was opened in 1912. It continues to serve the Club today and is only a 20 minute journey from London Marylebone.
The Clubhouse Bar is full of character and serves a good selection of drinks and bar snacks, whilst the Dining Room is renowned for its exceptional food, outstanding wine cellar and high standards of service, and the south facing terrace that overlooks the putting green is a great place to relax and enjoy a drink after your game.
We also offer a fully equipped meeting room if you wish to have a business meeting prior to relaxing on the golf course and enjoying the hospitality in the clubhouse.

Lying between the North and South Downs in the heart of the picturesque Hampshire countryside, Blackmoor Golf Club is a gem of a heathland course designed by the celebrated Harry Colt in 1913.
Since then, it has gone on to establish a formidable reputation, acting as a regional qualifier for the Open Championship between 1998 and 2003, and an England Golf Championship venue.
The club is home to the Selborne Salver, one of Britain’s most prestigious amateur events, and is regularly voted one of the top 100 courses in England.
Laid out in two loops, the 18 holes comprise five par 3’s which all bear the stamp of Colt with elevated greens wellguarded by bunkers, and two par 5’s making up a par 69.
The surroundings alone are worth a visit with the course lined by heather, gorse, silver birch, oak, and fir trees.
The fine sandy soil, firm turf, and the heathland ‘rough’ guarantee the quality of golf which can be played year-round.
Tranquillity is also guaranteed with no road, rail or aircraft noise acting as a distraction, and yet the course is in easy reach of London and the Home Counties via the A3.

WATERLOOVILLE GOLF CLUB
CHERRY TREE AVE | COWPLAIN | WATERLOOVILLE | PO8 8AP
Recognised in 2016 as a Championship venue by England Golf, the course at Waterlooville Golf Club is one that is great for all abilities. The course is a picturesque parkland course measuring up to 6,550 yards and with five par 5’s, five par 3’s and eight par 4’s our course is a truly unique and interesting experience.
The Club has recently invested significantly in the course with a new irrigation system, additional drainage works and all bunkers being fully renovated, along with a host of new machinery added to the greenkeeping fleet. As a result the course is in superb condition with fantastic greens all year round that have developed a strong reputation. There is also a practice ground and short game practice area available for those who
like to fine tune their skills before playing.
Our signature hole is the 13th – at 566 yards you have to carry a pond with your drive, a ditch with your second and the third shot requires an accurate approach to a tight green.
Waterlooville Golf Club warmly welcomes golf societies and corporate groups. Although our minimum number to qualify for our special Society rates is 12, we can comfortably accommodate much larger groups of up to 130 making Waterlooville GC the perfect venue for your next society, corporate or charity event.

WEYBROOK PARK GOLF
Founded in 1992 and moved to our present site in 1997, we pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming members’ club. Situated on the Hampshire Downs, our new 9 holes, recently opened on 1st May 2021, complete our 27-hole golf course where stunning views can be seen for miles around. The rolling landscape, superb layout and naturally free-draining soil makes Weybrook Park one of the finest all-weather courses in the South of England. Our 27 holes will always be in play, with no temporary greens and no trolley bans, thanks to our chalkbased course providing all year-round golf on well-tended fairways and manicured greens.
Although we are a members’ golf club, we very much welcome visiting golf societies and golfers alike. Weybrook Park was proudly opened by 2-time US Open champion Retief Goosen alongside European Tour Players Howard Clark, Peter Hedblom and Paul Broadhurst. The club quickly established itself as one of the premier golf courses in the area and is all the more notable since becoming a 27-hole venue. Our new 18-hole downland West Course and 9-hole parkland East
Course offers a very enjoyable experience for all standards of player. Both courses have gentle undulations providing a very comfortable walk. The West Course is formed by the upgraded front nine holes which originally opened in 1997 and the previous front nine holes which opened in 2016. The downland style course, located on an attractive undulating landscape with magnificent external views, features open grassland interspersed by newly planted clumps of indigenous woodland. Although a dry, fast running course, water will be a significant feature on The West Course with a series of four lakes located in natural valleys built into the course layout. The lakes are linked by a natural looking chalk stream which meanders through a valley, crossing the 14th fairway twice, before running into the small lake which wraps around the left-hand side and rear of the green. Seven of the holes on The West Course will have water features directly in play. A feature of particular note is the new 8th green and the lake as inspired by the iconic 10th hole at The Belfry, which should provide a risk and reward challenge. A visit is a must.

Among the standout holes are the par-three 16th, a 163-yard hole that requires a testing iron shot over water, while the signature par-four 10th demands a challenging drive from an island tee in front of the clubhouse.

ORCHARDLEIGH GOLF CLUB
ORCHARDLEIGH ESTATE | FROME | SOMERSET | BA11 2PH
The country estate of Orchardleigh – which includes a Victorian mansion, an island church, boathouse and a number of other listed outbuildings – is the setting for an idyllic parkland course routed through mature trees.
Designed in the mid-1990s by Brian Huggett, in conjunction with Peter McEvoy, the championship layout offers a decent test on a site where water is in play on seven holes.
The front nine is laid out on flatter land to the west of the clubhouse and the 414yard sixth is certainly the most challenging on the way out, with out of bounds to the left of a fairway that leads to a two tiered green..

Society Packages
18, 27 and 36 hole packages available with breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Packages from £18 per head, Full list of prices can be found on our club website, or to tailor individual packages please contact the office.
The back nine is more undulating and the dogleg right 14th is a testing par-5 with well-placed bunkers and trees. The maturity of the setting contrasts well against the modern, target golf design of the holes where greens have been constructed to USGA standard, while Orchardleigh’s practice facilities are firstclass with a full-length covered range, bunkers and chipping and putting greens.
Away from the course, the clubhouse offers a relaxed environment in which to enjoy a light snack, meal or drink, while there is a separate private room for society dining and evening functions.

WALES
ABERDOVEY GOLF CLUB
Aberdovey is proud to boast a championship links golf course which is consistently rated in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the UK & Ireland.
Founded in 1892, three of the legendary golf architects of the early 20th century, Harry Colt, James Braid and Herbert Fowler, have all had a hand in shaping Aberdovey as it stands today - a traditional, out and back links course, set in a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Tight lies, undulating approaches, firm surfaces and fast greens are all found at Aberdovey. At 6,535 yards, the course is not long by the standard of many newer courses. However, the real defences lie in the ever-changing winds which ensure that conditions are never the same for long, creating a test that often requires the player to use every club in the bag.
Aberdovey Golf Club has played host to many national and international competitions in its time. The Welsh Seniors’ Championship has made Aberdovey its usual home and the Welsh Hickory Championships are also held here annually. It is testament to the fact that Aberdovey truly is a fine test of links golf.
The Club is well known for its friendliness and were voted winners of the “Best Golf Club” award at the recent Welsh Hospitality Awards.
It was Bernard Darwin, former Walker Cup player and the first literary giant of the game who returned regularly, writing “Aberdovey is the course that my soul loves best of all the courses in the world” – play Aberdovey yourself and we’re sure you’ll see why.
MACHYNYS PENINSULA GOLF CLUB
Ever since it opened in 2005, Machynys Peninsula has captured the imagination of the golfing public. Its superb Nicklaus Design championship course overlooks the stunning Carmarthen Bay, making it a truly spectacular setting in which to enjoy a round.
Machynys is scheduled to host two R&A events in 2023: Senior Open Qualifier and Men’s & Ladies Home Internationals. It’s played host to numerous top-flight professional events over the past 13 years. Tommy Fleetwood has said This is arguably the best manmade links in the world’.
Playing to 7,121 yards off the back tees – with multiple teeing options to suit all skill levels – it features no fewer than 25 acres of lakes, with water coming into play on two-thirds of the holes.
Straight driving is essential to avoid these hazards, while accurate approach shots are needed to negotiate the clever bunkering around the sizeable USGA-standard greens – which are always presented in superb condition.
The course is routed in two loops, with a parkland front nine and an inward half that has more of a links feel beside the sea. Gary Nicklaus highlighted the 16th as one his favourites, a 461-yard par four which is played across a lake from behind the clubhouse, with the green offering a view of the entire bay.
The stylish, modern clubhouse features a bar and restaurant, function rooms, pro shop and golf superstore, while practise facilities include a putting green and driving range.

THE CARNOUSTIE BUDDON COURSE
The newest of the three courses at Carnoustie Golf Links, originally designed by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas on land that was formerly part of the ladies’ course and Ministry of Defence land, hence the reason why the holes are named after battles. The course was opened in 1979. Since then, many changes have taken place including the most recent investment in two new holes bringing the course up to a very testing par 68.
The Carnoustie Buddon Course is one of three wonderful 18-hole courses at Carnoustie Golf Links, where you can also find the challenging Carnoustie Burnside Course and the jewel in the crown - The Carnoustie Championship Course. In the

THE CARNOUSTIE BURNSIDE COURSE
The Carnoustie Burnside Course oozes character and from the back tees is a splendid test of golf, the 5th and 14th particularly, providing dramatic challenges for those who strive to gain their par 3. Here, in 1953 is where the great Ben Hogan shot 70 to help him qualify for the Open Championship which he subsequently won. Origins of The Burnside Course go back over 100 years. In 1982, 9 holes were laid out as an ‘Auxiliary’ course, to relieve pressure on The Championship Course, allowing visitors a gentler introduction to the pleasures of golf. This was one of the first instances of a club adding a second course – pre-dating the New Course at St Andrews by two years. The course
evolved over time, eventually getting to 18 holes in 1914. The next major change to the course was in 1934, when it was lengthened and strengthened and finally given a proper name – The Burnside. The course, now measuring just over 6,000 yards, is a tidy and challenging venue – very much one of the ‘hidden gems’ that Scottish golf is blessed with. As its name suggests, the course winds over and around the Barry Burn, and is protected not only by that feature, but also by narrow fairways and small greens. The bunkering is minimalist, but all are well placed to influence the golfer’s strategy. This course more than holds its own against some of the better courses in the country.
