GOLF NSW TO LAUNCH “BUDDY CLUB” INITIATIVE A key initiative of the Golf NSW Strategic Plan for 2015, to address the strategic issue of “Enhancing Club Health”, will be the launch of a “Buddy Club” program. This initiative will look to link participating larger metropolitan and regional golf clubs with smaller golf clubs throughout NSW. Once linked, it is hoped there will be a mutual understanding between Buddy Clubs to work together and assist one another where ever possible. Assistance that larger metropolitan and regional clubs could offer their designated “Buddy Club/Clubs” may include; • Sharing of resources, knowledge, and systems. • Access to unwanted/discarded equipment. • Interclub golfing activities and functions.

further strengthened a previous connection between the two clubs.

Direct financial assistance to a “Buddy Club” is not an expectation, nor will it be a requirement to be involved with this program.

Matthew Furze, General Manager of Asquith Golf Club said, “Asquith has had for some time a relationship with Parkes Golf Club, whereby each club would host the other every two years for an interclub competition.”

Over the past nine months Asquith and Parkes Golf Clubs have piloted a Buddy Club program with great success, and both Clubs agree that the relationship has been very beneficial, and

“The Buddy Club program however has broadened this relationship, and we have been able to assist Parkes further by sharing knowledge and resources concerning club

operations and course maintenance. It is very pleasing to know that even our modest levels of assistance have made a big difference to our Buddy Club.” Clubs will hear more about this initiative in coming months, and Golf NSW intends to work in close collaboration with Golf Management Australia (NSW) and the NSW PGA to secure club support for the Buddy Club program.

JNJG SCHOOLS TEAM TAKE ON NEW ZEALAND Last month saw the JNJG Schools Team make their way across the ditch to the land of the long white cloud. It was anything but cloudy! The team of twelve was selected because of their performances at the three major State Schools Golf Championships; the Combined High Schools Championship, the Under 15 Newton Shield and the Primary School Sport Association Championship. The juniors in this year’s team were: Rhys Ballinger, Nathan Barbieri, Lachlan Bill, Stefanie Hall, Pyper Hollis, Lachlan Jones, Xavier Kempton, Madeleine Laws-Farrell, Brianna Robards, Dranza Hawe-De Thierry, June Song and Kara Williams. The weeklong trip saw the juniors head to the North Island of New Zealand where they played two provincial matches and then took part in a New Zealand Golf National event. They played matches against Northland at the Northern Wairoa golf course, which is situated 2.5 hours north of Auckland, and against North Harbour at the picturesque Gulf Harbour Country Club. Unfortunately the hosts were too good for our team using their home course advantages to take out both matches convincingly. During the first two days of the trip the team enjoyed a couple of group excursions to a cultural centre and a thermal resort. It was a lot of fun and the juniors were able to learn a great deal about New Zealand’s indigenous people, the Maori. The next stop on the trip was Hamilton and the team played in the North Island Under 19 Championships. The boy’s event was played at the Hamilton Golf Club while the girls played Ngaruawahia golf course. JNJG had some

outstanding results with Stefanie Hall finishing second overall and Pyper Hollis winning the overall nett for the tournament. June Song also performed well finishing runner up in the Under 13 division. Nathan Barbieri was the only boy who made the 36-hole cut.

The trip was a great success and it gave the juniors the opportunity to experience playing golf as a team at an international event. These juniors were of mixed ability and many would not normally be selected for representative teams so it was a truly rewarding experience for them.

CHANGES TO LIQUOR LICENCE FEES AND THE RISK-BASED LICENCE FEE SCHEME All Golf Clubs should be aware that from April 2015, licensees (clubs) will be required to pay an annual licence fee, based on a venues “risk profile”. The scheme is designed to provide venues with a financial incentive to adopt and maintain safe, low-risk practices, with a renewed focus on the Responsible Service of Alcohol, in return for a lower annual licence fee. A licensee can reduce or surrender extended trading hours if they would like to either minimise or avoid paying the trading hours loading which is incurred if the venue trades after midnight. Any such changes need to be approved by office of Liquor Gaming and Racing (OLGR) by 15 March, 2015. Risk-based loadings will be calculated according to: • authorised trading hours; • compliance history; • patron capacity; and • venue location. Clubs can determine their liquor licence fee by utilising the “fee calculator” on the OLGR website, or by visiting the following link; http:// www.olgr.nsw.gov.au/risk_based_ licence_fee_calculator.asp The OGLR website also has a very useful fact sheet on the scheme, which can be accessed via the following link; http://www.olgr.nsw.gov.au/pdfs/risk_ based_licence_fee_fs.pdf Clubs should be aware of a number of key dates that will occur each concerning the introduction of the new licence fee scheme;

Clubs do have options to reduce a venue’s trading hours risk loading. These options include reducing trading hours after midnight, surrendering an extended trading authorisation, or for regional venues applying for a multi-occasion extended trading authorisation. A multi-occasion extended trading authorisation is for regional venues that have authority to trade past midnight, but rarely do. Key features of this authorisation are: • A venue outside of the metropolitan* area can trade until 3am on up to 12 occasions over a 12 month period • No community impact statement will be required with the application, if late trading is already authorised

• Local police, local council and OLGR must be notified at least six weeks prior to the event • Clubs with unrestricted trading hours that forgo that privilege to obtain a multioccasion extended trading authorisation can revert to the previously unrestricted trading hours at a later date • An application fee for this authorisation is $1000. Licensees are also required to pay an annual fee of $1000 for this authorisation • *Metropolitan areas are defined in clause 80 of the Liquor Regulation 2008 OLGR is available to work with licensees to facilitate an application to reduce or avoid the late trading hours risk loading, and clubs wishing to do so can contact OLGR on (02) 9995 0894.

In what is sure to provide golfers, and clubs, throughout NSW with great deals when considering buying a motor vehicle, Mazda have linked with Golf NSW not only in the capacity of a Major Supporting Partner, but also by assuming the Naming Rights of the historic NSW Open Golf Championship. The association shows the importance of such an extensive and passionate golfing community in NSW to an international company such as Mazda. As a separate part of the arrangement, a Mazda3 Neo Manual Hatch will be offered as a prize to one lucky entrant, who pays their entry fee to participate in their clubs’ qualifying event in one of the various Fourball Championships held throughout the year – Men’s, Women’s or Mixed.
