What a Way to Experience Golf

This year’s winner—world number three Jon Rahm—shot two 64’s to open the tournament--but barely nudged out Tour rookie Davis Thompson down the stretch on Sunday to win by one stroke.

“It shows how good everyone is getting,” said Rahm after his win, his second in the event and second straight this year. “It’s a really good time for spectators and fans of the game. Because what’s more fun than seeing people just make birdies and having an exciting game.”

Rahm has an affinity for Southern California even though he is a native of Spain and attended Arizona State University. Four of his 9 PGA Tour victories have come in Southern California, and he admits that the region suites him well.

“It is probably because I am so comfortable (in the region).” He added. “The life-style suites me. My wife and I love this part of the country. She’s happy—I’m happy—our kids are happy. It is a lot easier to play golf.”

When it comes to a winter vacation and a place where you can play golf, watch the top pros (and even play alongside them) and get your fill of entertainment and fun, nothing fills the bill like the American Express in La Quinta, California that happens to be the first PGA Tour stop on the continental US every year and kicks off its West Coast swing.

Now having been played 64 times since its inception as the Desert Classic in 1960 and known for decades as the Bob Hope, the professional golf event that now is under the American Express banner has evolved into much more than a Pro-Am in the California desert, Palm Springs area.

In the latest version of this iconic event in January, it was very noticeable—perhaps more than ever—that this week of golf attracts fans from a far wider area than just Southern California—and for more reasons than ever before.

In addition to being able to watch a star-studded field of golfers that included five of the top 7 players in the world and the top four Americans battle it out for the record $8 million purse, the Am Ex concert series that began in 2017 was at its best with Southern California native Gwen Stefani and three-time Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Darius Rucker rocking the crowds after play on Friday and Saturday evenings on the PGA West Stadium Course driving range. Stefani--born and raised in Anaheim; a singer songwriter and charismatic frontwoman of No Doubt-- and Rucker, who first achieved musical prominence as the lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish and has since become a hugely successful country artist--engaged the audiences both nights in many more ways than during the previous five versions of the musical concert series. The crowds were larger and more energized than ever—providing one of the best concert experiences this side of the Coachella Music Festival that is held every spring right down the road.

For those so inclined, the Am Ex also included participation in the golf tournament as well with 156 amateurs teeing it up for the first three-days of the professional contest in one of only two remaining events on tour that has the pros playing alongside the amateurs during regular tournament play at three spectacular desert courses in La Quinta: La Quinta Country Club. The Nicklaus Tournament Course and the host course—the PGA West Stadium Course—one of architect Pete Dye’s most famous tracks.

Although all three courses are a great test of golf and stretch to over 7,000 yards for the tournament, the winning score of 27 under over four days is a testament to not only how good the players on Tour are, but how perfect the conditioning of these courses are.

Rahm echoes what a lot of visitors to this region say. With 120 golf courses in the immediate area, there are plenty of opportunities to get a casual round in during tournament week—not to mention the many resorts, spas, classic restaurants and Indian casinos. That doesn’t even include the many entertainment and hospitality areas at the American Express that has made this a top vacation spot for golfers in the winter.

Go Golf Kauai Courses Welcome 2023 Celebrate Memorable And Meaningful 2022

KAUA‘I, HAWAI‘I – Kaua‘i’s spectacular collection of golf courses welcome 2023 while celebrating a memorable and meaningful 2022. In October, the Go Golf Kaua‘i courses banded together for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, reminding guests abouts the importance of early detection. The work is being overseen by golf course architect Phil Smith, long-time partner of Tom Weiskopf and collaborator on the original course design, with construction company Atlantic Golf and leading golf course consultancy company Turfgrass, which oversaw the transformation of the 2027 Ryder Cup venue at Adare Manor, Ireland.

Phil Smith said: “Our objective has always been to make Castiglion del Bosco the finest golf experience in Italy.

“As with all great courses, it is important to continue to invest and evolve and that is what we are doing, by extending the course to professional tournament length and ensuring world class playing conditions all year round and resilience in a changing climate.”

Phil Smith said the course, which features a closed drainage system, reusing irrigation water and capturing run off, remains one

of the most sustainable he and Tom Weiskopf had designed in 20 years of working together.

“The new turf variations and improvements to the closed drainage system, will ensure the traditional Tuscan style and sustainable roots remain an integral part of the course design and ensure The Club at Castiglion del Bosco continues to be regarded as one of the top courses in Italy.”

Famously, Tom Weiskopf added a short 19th hole, The Brunello Hole, where Members and Residents can settle matches and play for a Magnum of Brunello di Montalcino from the estate’s prestigious winery.

First Tee – Hawai‘i And Hsjga Students Enjoy 2023 Kickoff Event Hosted By Ka‘anapali Golf Courses And Sentry Insurance

MAUI, HAWAI‘I – Ahead of the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions, Ka‘anapali Golf Courses and Sentry Insurance invited over 200 attendees, including 115 juniors from Maui aged 3 to 18, to a free interactive clinic in support of First Tee – Hawai‘i and the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association (“HSJGA”). Notable speakers included PGA TOUR winners Russell Henley, Tony Finau and Golf Channel/NBC Sports analyst and longtime Maui resident, Mark Rolfing.

First Tee – Hawai‘i integrates golf with a life skills curriculum to create active learning experiences for juniors that build self-confidence and resiliency.

“Sentry has been a corporate trustee of the First Tee since 2021,” said Pete McPartland, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of Sentry, title sponsor of the Sentry Tournament of Champions. “Sentry is dedicated to advancing the accessibility and inclusivity of recreational golf for individuals from diverse backgrounds and in communities of all sizes across the United States.”

The Aloha Section PGA and First Tee – Hawai‘i volunteers donated their time to produce a memorable event for Maui’s juniors. Ka‘anapali’s driving range hosted swing lessons by PGA Professionals and “hit the whale” inflatable targets. Short game drills included “chipping darts” and wedge shots to different yardage circles. Rental clubs were provided complimentary by Ka‘anapali Golf Courses and Callaway Golf.

“The advantage of having Ka‘anapali in close proximity to Kapalua is that it’s a great opportunity to showcase golf options to the juniors in our community,” said Chris Noda, Executive Director of First Tee – Hawai‘i and HSJGA. “We want to further raise awareness of the fantastic programs that First Tee –Hawai‘i has to offer statewide.”

The family fun was not limited to golf. DJ Maui Tunes kept attendees entertained throughout, while Maui Soda & Ice Works poured beverages and Maui Big Wave Shave Ice Company served desserts. Da Bounce Party Rentals provided inflatable skee ball, sumo wrestling and corn hole boards.

Russell Henley, a four-time PGA TOUR champion whose first victory came at the 2013 Sony Open in Hawaii, visited with Maui’s juniors to share his swing tips.

Joining Henley at the event was fivetime PGA TOUR winner Tony Finau, who earned a top-10 finish at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions. He created

plenty of fanfare by bombing drives over the range net and onto the fairway of hole 16 at Royal Ka‘anapali.

Finau, who is of Polynesian descent, spoke of his affinity for the Aloha State. His wife’s family lives on the North Shore of Oahu. He discussed the importance of goal setting in golf and life, and how his vivid memories of watching Tiger Woods win the 1997 Masters fueled his desire to emulate Woods’ career.

Kids also had the special chance to interact with one of golf’s most respected TV personalities, Mark Rolfing.

“It’s hard for me to describe the sense of pride and joy that I had seeing all of those kids, parents and community members participating in one of the most unique and enjoyable junior golf events that I’ve seen in all my years on Maui!” said Rolfing. “Thanks to everyone at the First Tee – Hawai‘i, Hawaii State Junior Golf Association, Ka‘anapali Golf Courses and all the volunteers for their tremendous planning and hard work!”

Additionally, the 2023 Kickoff Event featured University of Hawai‘i head men’s golf coach and seven-time PGA TOUR winner, Scott Simpson. Stemming from the 2022 Ka‘anapali Classic, Karl Reul, general manager of Ka‘anapali Golf Courses, presented a $5,000 check to the Warrior Golf Booster Fund at the University of Hawai‘i. Funding for travel is a critical need for student-athletes. Ka‘anapali Golf Courses was pleased to support the state’s flagship university.

“Every penny raised directly helps our student-athletes get better and makes their time on our golf team even more memorable,” said Coach Simpson. “From hosting great tournaments to generous financial support, we are grateful for our continued partnership and friendship with Ka‘anapali Golf Courses and Troon Golf. Dundonald Links Garners Two Accolades at Scottish Golf Tourism Awards

AYRSHIRE, SCOTLAND – Dundonald Links earned distinction in two categories at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards last week, the new luxury resort collecting first-place prizes for Best Clubhouse and Best Sustainability Project.

The popular golf course was transformed into a full, opulent resort that had its first full season in 2022, spearheaded by an extensive overhaul of its clubhouse. The spacious facility has received much acclaim for its Highlands-inspired aesthetic and exceptional Canny Crow restaurant. A quintessentially Scottish whisky room offers tasting sessions, while the resort’s state-of-the-art gym boasts a wide range of equipment. Guests report that the refined, sumptuous clubhouse is the perfect place to relax in post round, with panoramic views over the 18th green and beyond.

Dundonald Links’ distinction in the Best Sustainability Project category is recognition of the resort’s work around the 2022 Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open, which it staged in July 2022, working with industry experts to create the #TGWSOOnTheGreen strategy. Dundonald Links used educational messaging, advanced waste processing and a site-wide ban of plastics among its methods to promote environmental wellness across the tournament. Santa María Golf Club of Panamà to host 2024 Latin America Amateur Championship

PANAMÁ CITY, PANAMÁ – The Masters Tournament, The R&A and the USGA today announced that the ninth edition of the Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC) will be contested at Santa María Golf Club in Panamá City, Panamá, January 18-21, 2024. The LAAC will return to Panamá for the second time in the event’s history and make its debut at Santa María Golf Club.

“It is an honor to host the top men’s Latin American amateurs at our beautiful venue for the 2024 Latin America Amateur Championship,” said José Ignacio Olea, General Manager of Santa María Golf Club. “Santa María Golf Club will provide a quality backdrop to showcase some of the best players in our region.”

Santa María Golf Club was designed in Panamá by Nicklaus Design, the golf firm founded by Jack Nicklaus, and offers views of the nearby Panamá City skyline. The par-72, 7,153-yard course opened in 2012 and has since hosted elite junior events over the past decade. The parkland-style golf course northeast of downtown Panamá City features undulating greens and presents a number of bunkers and lakes.

Championship organizers announced the addition of an exemption into the U.S. Open for the LAAC champion beginning in 2023 at The Los Angeles Country Club. This adds to the existing exemption into The Open and the invitation into the Masters Tournament for the LAAC champion.

Founded by the Masters Tournament, The R&A and the USGA in 2014, the LAAC was established to further develop amateur golf in South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. The event annually moves to top courses throughout Latin America and showcases the sport’s rising talent in the region. Notable past competitors include Sebastian Muñoz of Colombia and Chilean Joaquin Niemann, the 2018 LAAC champion.

“We are excited to grant an exemption into the U.S. Open to the champion of the Latin America Amateur Championship beginning this June at The Los Angeles Country Club,” said Mike Whan, CEO of the USGA. “The addition of this exemption furthers our commitment to developing golf across Latin America and recognizes the level of talent that competes for this championship.”

The 2023 LAAC began on Thursday at Puerto Rico’s Grand Reserve Golf Club. The Cayman Islands’ Aaron Jarvis is defending his title after his 2022 victory led to an invitation to the Masters Tournament and an exemption into The Open at St Andrews. The collegiate freshman went on to become the first Caymanian to make the cut in The Open’s 150-year history.

Omni La Costa Resort & Spa Begins Renovation of Its Famed Champions Course

CARLSBAD, CA– Omni La Costa Resort & Spa has broken ground on the renovation of its famed Champions Course, one of its two 18-hole courses, as it prepares to host three consecutive NCAA Division I Women’s and Men’s Golf Championships beginning in May 2024.

The renovation and ensuing NCAA Championships mark the

beginning of a new chapter at one of the country’s most-iconic golf resorts. The golf course work will be led by Hanse Golf Course Design, founded by acclaimed architect Gil Hanse, who recently designed Fields Ranch East at the soon-to-open Omni PGA Frisco Resort in Frisco, Texas.

“We are excited to officially kick off this work with Gil Hanse, Jim Wagner and the rest of their team,” says Kurt Alexander, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts. “We believe that the Champions Course will be one of the marquee courses available to the public in Southern California after this renovation, and is another example of Omni’s commitment to elevating the experience across our golf portfolio nationwide. Thank you to retired Mayor Matt Hall, Mayor Keith Blackburn, city officials, the city planning department and all others who played key roles to get this project started in advance of the 2024 NCAA championships.”

Hanse and team will implement significant design changes with the NCAA’s match-play format in mind – chief among them will be challenging players with more risk-reward decisions throughout their rounds. Further inspiration for the work will be drawn from classic Southern California courses, as aesthetics are tweaked to give the Champions Course a more proper sense of scale and place.

Specific changes planned include the creation of a drivable par4 on No. 11, a repositioned green on the par-3 16th hole that is reminiscent of Augusta National’s 12th hole, and a reachable par-5 on No. 18 with its putting surface brought closer to the existing creek. The course will play as a par-72 and have the flexibility to play from 4,300 to 7,500 yards, in order to accommodate players of all skill levels.

Other considerations in this project are environmental in nature.

For example, transitioning irrigation lines that will continue to use reclaimed water, removing man-made ponds, and reintroducing natural barrancas composed of drought tolerant and native species.

“The setting and surrounds of the Champions Course lend themselves to a golf experience that looks and feels authentic to Southern California,” says Hanse. “Our design work will bring a bit more simplicity and elegance to course aesthetics. This will be accompanied by a strategic focus balancing enjoyment for everyday play by members and resort guests, with shot-making requirements that test the best of collegiate golf.”

The golf course work at Omni La Costa is planned to be joined in the coming months by another project focused on reimagining the resort’s golf practice facility. This project will be led by Beau Welling, and his firm, Beau Welling Design. The focus will be on elevating the practice experience with a newly lengthened driving range and expanded short game area.

Like the golf course project, the practice range upgrades would incorporate a new state-of-the-art irrigation system that will allow the facility to maintain efficient usage of water for sustainability considerations while still exhibiting the highest maintenance standards.

The Champions Course renovation is the latest step in the resort’s planned evolution. The first phase in 2021 included a design refresh of the lobby and adjacent Bar Traza, and culminated in the unveiling of the Costa de la Luna ballroom, increasing the resort’s total meeting space to over 100,000 square feet. Later this year, the resort is undergoing a complete renovation of The Spa, guest rooms and suites. Additional phases will be announced and rolled out over the next several months.

Sunup to Sundown Golf in Rancho Mirage The Westin Golf Resort & Spa

When the Lead Teaching Professional at The Westin Rancho Mirage Resort describes what he does for a living, it sounds like the best job in the world. “My second home is working at a resort. I tell my kids that I go on vacation every day,” David Curtis said.

Curtis’ office is at the Pete Dye Course, a 6700-yard layout, based in a destination known for 350 days of sunshine per year. Curtis teaches golfers from around the world looking to improve their game. These same golfers flock to a course designed by one of the greatest names in the industry.

“I’m surrounded by palm trees, snow capped mountains, and most of the time the temperature is around 75 degrees. The best part is I get to help people play better golf,” Curtis said. As you might guess, the whole time Curtis talked about his profession he couldn’t stop smiling.

History of the Pete Dye Course

Curtis came on board as a Golf Professional at The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa in 2001. Curtis is a student of the course’s

history, and he watched as a signature Dye element needed tender loving care in 2013. “The course opened in 1987, and Pete Dye’s trademark railroad ties that bolster the bunkers and water holes were showing signs of wear. So, in 2013 our course went through a renovation phase,” Curtis said.

When asked about the differences between the front nine and back nine, Curtis provided an interesting reply. “The front nine was designed by members of Dye’s team. The back nine was designed by the master himself. If you know Pete Dye, you can see the difference.”

Curtis noted that the greens and bunkers reveal Dye’s personal touch. “You’ll find the greens on the back side are more undulating, and you’ll also encounter more pot bunkers on holes 10 through 18,” Curtis shared.

Kinder and Gentler

The Pete Dye namesake course in Rancho Mirage is felt to exhibit a kinder and gentler glimpse into the architect’s 42-year design legacy. Golfers receive a reprieve on most tee shots as generous

fairways are the norm throughout your Dye journey. It’s on the second shot that Dye forces golfers to think.

“If you pay attention, the drives that favor the right side of the fairway will follow with a second shot pointing left. The opposite is true on the drives where a draw is preferred,” Curtis noted.

Dye also tries a little tenderness on The Westin Rancho Mirage holes that feature water. The greens in which golfers contend with H2O actually break away from the water. Thanks, Pete!

Desert Golf Mountain Golf

For golfers who find their way to The Westin Rancho Mirage, the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa mountains provide splendid eye candy that is hard to ignore. The Par 5, 541-yard 5th hole is a real crowd

pleaser. “If you tee off around sunrise, the glow on the mountains can turn purple, yellow, and red. You can also see the mirror image of the mountains in the water. It’s a beautiful moment,” Curtis said.

The Par 4, 417-yard, 14th hole is at it’s best in the late afternoon. Photographers refer to the last hour before sunset as the golden hour. At the time when there is perfect light from above, the 14th fairway and putting green are alive with color.

Curtis loves the course’s practice range in the early morning hours. Imagine hitting balls facing a mountain range when all is quiet with the world. Then there is the can you top this 18th hole. The Par 4, 385-yard finisher awaits with a reflective shimmer of water guarding a massive green. All in all, the Pete Dye Course is a Palm Springs must for the golfer looking to become one with nature.

What’s in a Name?

Back and Better Than Ever!

For years, TPC Tampa Bay has been regarded as one of the best public access facilities in the Tampa market. After all, whenever the letters TPC precede anything to do with golf, expectations are automatically raised, and TPC Tampa Bay delivers.

Recently, the best got better! Originally opened in 1991, TPC Tampa Bay was designed by renowned golf course architect Bobby Weed with a lot of input from PGA TOUR professional Chi Chi Rodriguez and has consistently received a 4.5-star rating from Golf Digest. Florida Golf Magazine claims it as one of the top 5 courses in the state. For more than twenty years, The Champions Tour held an event here. Some of the greatest players of all time have won at this historic property, including Nicklaus, Watson,

Price, Langer, and Irwin. Yet with all of these accolades, the owners – aka the new Heritage Golf Group -believed there was room for improvement. So shortly after the busy Florida golf season ended in late April, TPC Tampa Bay closed for renovation.

In mid-September 2022, TPC Tampa Bay reopened to rave reviews. For the most part, the outstanding design that Weed and Rodriguez created was left intact. The greens were regrassed with Champion G-12 hybrid Ultradwarf Bermuda, the tees and fairways were regrassed with Bimini Bermuda, and enhancements were made to the practice facility. Extensive work was done to improve the drainage throughout the course. For General Manager Steve Ostroff and his staff, it’s all about a “Return to Glory” and bringing the club back to what it once was.

TPC Tampa Bay is extremely diverse - not only has it challenged the best golfers in the world, but every day it is played and enjoyed by golfers with abilities that range from future professionals to those who are simply on vacation. TPC Tampa Bay offers golfers six sets of tees to choose from; the TPC Tees play 6,898 yards. From back here you can get an idea of what the pros experience. At 6,008 yards, the White Tees provide a lot of enjoyment and may even let you leave with a little dignity still intact. For those that may feel overwhelmed, try the Forward Tees at 4,990 yards. Pick the set that best suits your game and you’re sure to have an enjoyable round.

TPC Tampa Bay winds its way through an upscale neighborhood in Lutz, FL and as you make your way around

the golf course, you can tell from all of the mounds around the greens and on the peripheries of the fairways that this course was built with spectators in mind. Heritage Golf Group is determined to bring professional golf back to TPC Tampa Bay. The 2022 Finals of the PGA TOUR Champions were held here, and the intent is to bring it back in the upcoming years. It is the perfect venue for what many regard as one of golf’s most difficult competitions.

The course is set among natural wetlands with strands of cypress trees and several manmade and natural lagoons. The majority of holes at TPC have generous fairways that leave manageable shots into the green. Miss the fairway off the tee and you can easily find one of many sculpted fairway bunkers that dot the landing areas. Most of the greens are

raised, placing a premium on accurate approach shots. Hit a poor approach shot and you can easily find yourself in one of the many grass swales or in the mounding that surrounds many putting surfaces. The greens themselves have a lot of undulation; many have multiple tiers and are usually protected by bleach-white bunkers. The difficulties around the green will give you a new appreciation for a PGA TOUR player’s short game!

There are several risk-reward opportunities and if you ever feel overly challenged on a particular shot, odds are there’s a place where you can bail out and still give yourself a chance to make par. TPC requires you to think your way around the course, for the most part, it’s brains over brawn.

Picking memorable holes at TPC is like trying to pick a favorite child, but the three I remember most are 14, 15, and 16, which are handicapped as three of the toughest holes on the back nine. Number 14 is the beginning of the “Gauntlet.” It’s a monster par 5, dogleg left that plays 588 yards from the TPC Tees. There’s water down the left side and the deep, cavernous bunker between the water and the elevated fairway can spell disaster if you find it off the tee.

A tee shot slightly right of center will leave a good angle into the green. You’ll need to hit your second shot over the strategically placed fairway bunkers on the left to have any chance of getting on the green in regulation. Two wellplayed shots will leave a short iron or wedge into a narrow two-tiered green protected by sand on the right and water on the left.

Number 15 is like Number 14, a dogleg left with wetlands and a lagoon framing the left side. The hole plays 452 yards from the TPC Tees and a good drive short of the fairway bunker on the right will leave a mid-iron into an oddshaped green, well protected with sand and water left. It is rated the toughest hole on the inward 9 and the 2nd most difficult hole on the card.

The 16th hole, handicapped number 8 is a beautiful but devilish par 4. You’ll want to favor the right side of the fairway to avoid the two large fairway bunkers that seem to attract most tee shots down the left side. Be careful not to go too far right or you’ll have to deal with the cypress trees on your second shot. Hit a great tee shot and the bunkers short and right should not come into play.

TPC features some amazing practice facilities as well. Since they are a daily fee property, those playing the course are welcome to use any part of the practice area before or after their round. Also in the Coachella Valley, and adjacent to the Hyatt Resort, the city of Indian Wells offers two great

municipal golf courses: Celebrity and Players, also known as “Beauty and the Beast”. This 36-hole Indian Wells Golf Resort is among the few U.S. properties to have two courses ranked in the Top 25 “Best Municipal Courses in the United States” by Golfweek Magazine. Opened in 1986, these Ted Robinson-designed courses have hosted Golf Channel’s Big Break (2011) as well as the PGA’s Skins Game (2007-2008). The Players Course has also been the host for the Southern California Open for the last few years and is the course of choice for high profile events for the Southern California Association. Additionally, Greenskeeper.org lauds the resort for its “Best Playing Conditions” in the Palm Springs area, while Golfweek lists it among the best courses you can play in California. There was a massive re-model in 2006 to the Celebrity Course by Clive Clark and in 2007, to the Players Course by John Fought, making them even better. Both courses offer stunning views of the surrounding San Jacinto, Eisenhower, Santa Rosa and the San Bernardino Mountain ranges. Celebrity has a resort style design with numerous tree-lined fairways and allows more favorable bounces around the greens. You need to really concentrate while playing this course as the fairways

are somewhat narrow and rolling which places a premium on the tee shot so you can approach the green with better control. “Try to keep the ball underneath the hole because the greens are undulating can be pretty quick” says Joe Williams, Director of Golf. Adding to that are the slight doglegs, both right and left, making this a fun and exciting course to play. Peaceful features with waterfalls appear on seven of the back nine holes. Be aware of the retention basin (mostly dry) that divides the two nines. If an errant shot should stray down the hill, your next shot may be a difficult blind shot back to the fairway or green.

The links-style Players Course offers wider, less rolling fairways. It is a bit longer than the Celebrity course with several blind tee shots and strategic bunkering which can be very penal. However, there are not many forced carries,

so the ball rolls up to the green pretty easy thus making this course more favorable for higher handicappers. The greens complexes are very large with subtle breaks; some have false fronts as well as collection and chipping areas. These championship golf courses offer magnificent views of the mountains and are somewhat different than most desert courses as they offer wall-to-wall grass fairways. The proximity to the Hyatt Resort makes it convenient to play the courses and still have time to enjoy the other amenities. The new Pro V1 and Pro V1x are engineered with high-gradient core designs that deliver lower long game spin for increased distance and a more consistent flight – helping golfers hit the ball longer and straighter while maintaining the “Drop-and-Stop” greenside control to aid the short game.

The new high-gradient construction of these balls feature progressive firmness levels that lower long game spin without sacrificing short game spin. Both golf balls feature significant innovations to improve on-course performance in addition to the new high gradient core design. The all-new, reimagined core in the new Pro V1 and the dual core Pro V1x are built to be firmer on the outside and progressively softer on the inside, which promotes fast speeds and low long game spin.

The new cores take inspiration from popular CPOs (Custom Performance Options) - Pro V1 Left Dot and Pro V1x Left Dash-- both of which feature high gradient cores and are the choice of several players on professional tours.

There has been a change in the 2023 Pro V1x dual core design, with the inner core increasing center volume by 44%, from 1” to 1.13” in size. This works in concert with the high gradient, as the larger and softer center helps to drive down long game spin and increase stability through the air.

The speed amplifying high-flex casing layers on both the Pro V1 and Pro V1x interact with the high gradient cores to further neutralize excess spin while combining with the soft cast urethane cover to provide improved greenside spin and control—and better stopping power.

The cast thermoset Urethane covers on the Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls utilize a proprietary thermoset process. Two separate components are mixed, and the liquid urethane is cast into Titleist-manufactured cavities which form the appropriate dimple pattern into the cover. The precise timing of the curing process and temperature are integral to the consistency of the urethane and the performance the golfer experiences on the course.

With a 388-dimple design on the Pro V1 and a 348-dimple design on Pro V1x, both golf balls have optimized aerodynamics to fly consistent and far. The Pro V1x’s dimple pattern allows the ball to launch and fly in a slightly higher window than the Pro V1.

As in the past, the difference between the two models of the ProV1 is to customize the ball for the player’s type of game. Pro V1 is the best ball for players seeking very low long game spin, more distance, penetrating

and consistent flight, and drop-and-stop greenside control, all of which complements Pro V1’s very soft feel, which is improved in the new edition.

Pro V1x is the best choice for golfers seeking higher flight and more spin, with a slightly firmer feel compared to Pro V1. Titleist has done a good job of making this ball feel even softer in the newest version and more like the ProV1. This can be a real advantage to players wanting to retain the feel yet get a higher ball flight and more spin for their long game—which can create more distance for many players.

“The golf ball is the engine of everything I do equipment wise,” he noted. “So, the big thing that I look for whenever I’m testing balls, is ‘Does it do exactly what I think it’s going to do? Amobile phone app that has been around for a decade to assist travelers in planning their trips has now added an important interactive feature that can help those that are taking to the highways— especially this winter.

Weather Route, Inc.’s app-- Highway Weather-- has just launched a new feature called Route Sharing. The feature allows drivers to share the details of any weatherrelated obstacles they will encounter on their drive with friends and family.

Drivers using the Highway Weather app can simply share their route from the app to generate a link. Anyone with the link can see the forecasted drive on the app website and see any potential severe weather. Families can use this information to plan winter travel together, even remotely. Being privacyconscious, no personal location information is shared; web visitors simply see the route and related weather information as if they

were starting the drive themselves.
