Our business began in 2001 and we are pioneers at operating tours through Parana Coastal area.

During the past years the company has specialized its operations in Southern Brazil: Iguazu Falls, the canyons of Rio Grande do Sul, the beaches of Santa Catarina, the World Biosphere Reserve of the Atlantic Rainforest, mountain ranges and the Lagamar Estuary. Currently, the scope of our operations has been expanded to other important highlight destinations such as: Southern and Northern Pantanal, Rio de Janeiro area, Amazon area and the Northeast coast.

Gondwana Brasil Ecoturismo is a specialized inbound tour operator located in Curitiba, Paraná, in the heart of Southern Brazil. “Gondwana” is the name of one of the two super continents (southern continent), originated by the first split of Pangaea, about 200 million years ago. The origin of the Atlantic Rain Forest and the Brazilian mountain range coastal areas (Serra do Mar) are associated to those geological processes. And it was on the domains of the Atlantic Rain Forest, which is considered to be the “mother” forest of the Brazilian Nation, more precisely in the Paraná Coastal area and its Mountain Range, where the history of Gondwana Brasil Ecoturismo began. In this region we had our first experiences with soft adventure activities and nature travel, as well as our professional inspirations. Since then, three young tourism professionals impassionate by their country’s biodiversity and natural landscapes have started their path on showing others the real and authentic features of Brazil, which is such a diverse country.

Why visit Brazil The Pantanal is one of the most valuable Brazilian natural patrimonies. It is the largest wetland of the planet – with nearly 210 thousand km2. It covers Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul states. The Pantanal is regarded for its rich fauna. The strong rains are common in the area. Its lands are flooded regularly by various swamps and wide river valleys mixed with lakes and alluvial branches. At the flood season, these frames are fused and reach the water of Paraguay River, renovating and fertilizing the region.

It is also considered a Natural World Patrimony and a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. There is great facility to watch the fauna of the Pantanal due to its vast areas. Birds, fish, snakes and the jaguars are the most popular animals of this fauna. The best combination in Southern Pantanal at Mato Grosso do Sul state is the town of Bonito. It has been voted several times as the best destination for soft adventures in Brazil, allowing its visitors to experience activities such as river floating, vertical cave abseiling, trekking and an unforgettable visit to the Blue Lake Cave.

Rio de Janeiro is a sight by itself and worth the journey. People visiting Rio will find and enjoy colors, music, natural landscapes and the hectic and green cosmopolitan Rio de Janeiro city, one of Brazilian main post cards. The area has a rich culture and history and it is certainly a must see while visiting Brazil.

The northeast coast of Brazil hides the best beach sanctuaries.

A perfect combination of beaches with crystalline blue waters, local villages and tranquil places to visit.

Visiting Natural Areas As you´ll be getting off the beaten tracks, many of the places that we will be visiting, are natural or protected areas. They are different and more fragile than the places that we are used to go. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to see wonderful sceneries and to live unique experiences when being in contact with the nature.

When traveling to these protected areas you will need to respect the culture of the places you are visiting, simple actions that will turn you into a traveler concerned with the nature. So, before leaving home, is always good to learn as much as you can about the country you´re visiting – its religion (s), values, customs, and rules. For this, our experienced leaders will give you a comprehensive rundown about the trip with all information and guidelines needed for each trip.

Besides the wonderful Iguazu Falls, named on the 7th World Natural Wonders and one of Brazil´s most famous natural attractions, Parana State has also the largest continuous coverage of preserved Atlantic Rain Forest in Brazil, the Coastal area. Due to its remoteness it has kept a natural treasure of pristine Forest which nowadays has been legally protected and declared as World Biosphere Reserve. It includes the breathtaking views of “Serra Verde Express”, a historical train ride throughout the Mountain Ranges, the colonial towns of Morretes, Antonina and Paranaguá to the caves and bays of the Lagamar Estuary which starts at the paradisiacal beaches of Ilha do Mel and finishes with a jungle expedition of pure raw ecotourism into the Natural Reserve of Sebui; the fishermen villages and deserted beaches.

Santa Catarina is one of the smallest Brazilian states – but it is not one to be missed out if we consider all the natural areas and diverse landscapes that go from Florianópolis Island and some of the best and most stunning Brazilian beaches. It may also include a whale watching expedition (Southern Right Whales) to the Serra Geral (Mountain Range) and the breathtaking canyons of Aparados da Serra. Other touristic activities found are trekking and horse-riding. Besides, there is the agricultural tourism circuit in Acolhida na Colônia project.

How your experience will be You´ll be participating on a trip especially designed for you or with a small group from 2 to 15 people. DAY 01: IGUASSU FALLS Arrival in Foz do Iguassu, transfer to hotel.

DAY 02: IGUASSU FALLS Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to the Argentinian side of Falls (entrance fee included). The conflux of Brazil´s Rio Iguassu (Iguassu River) and Rio Paraná (Parana River) tumbles over a basalt plateau, diving into fingers, or catarata, of water in numbers and force that indeed prevents any antediluvian purists remaining out there to deny gravity´s existence. Foz do Iguassu - Curitiba - Morretes - Ilha do Mel 07 DAYS / 06 NIGHTS

INTRODUCTION

This tour we will take us to the most important tourism attractions of the Paraná state. Starting by the city of Iguassu where the Iguassu Falls is located. Having the opportunity to watch the force of the nature from so close is a breathtaking experience.

After that, we will go to the Coastline through the historical railroad that crosses the Mountain Range. There we will find the town of Morretes, a small colonial place surrounded by the exuberant nature of the Atlantic Rain Forest.

Our next destination in the region will be the enchanting Ilha do Mel (Honey Island) with its beautiful beaches and tranquil environment. We will finish our tour in Curitiba, the well-known capital city of Paraná state.

DAY 03: IGUASSU FALLS - CURITIBA Breakfast at the hotel. Today we’ll visit the Brazilian side of Falls and Bird Park (entrance fees included), considered an ecological sanctuary. Check-out from the hotel and overnight bus to Curitiba (optional flight option available).

DAY 04: CURITIBA - MORRETES Arrival in Curitiba in the early morning.

INTRODUCTION

This tour gathers the most visited tourism attractions in Paraná state coastal area: the famous train ride throughout the splendid Serra do Mar (Mountain Range), local gastronomy of the charming little town of Morretes and the calm beaches.

In only two days it is possible to visit the centenary railroad, visit Morretes - a colonial little town surrounded by the still preserved green of what’s reminiscent of the Atlantic Rainforest - and yet get a taste of “barreado”, the Paraná coastal area typical and famous dish.

This trip can be either combined with an extension to Ilha do Mel. Another option is returning from Morretes to Curitiba by the historical Road of Graciosa.

This tour will take us to Sebuí Ecologic Reserve, a private reserve that is located inside the Guaraqueçaba Natural Protected Area. Over 70% of its forests is still in a primary state, which means it hasn’t suffered significant changes by the hands of men.

Therefore, it is totally preserved and the quality of its fauna and flora is extremely rich.

Besides that, this tour will give you the chance to visit traditional villages, deserted beaches as well as new and enchanting experiences.

This trip can be combined with an extension to Ilha do Mel. Another option is returning from Paranaguá to Curitiba by the historical Road of Graciosa.

DAY 02: CURITIBA, SERRA VERDE EXPRESS & PARANAGUÁ - SEBUÍ NATURAL RESERVE Early transfer to the railway station for the train journey from Curitiba to Morretes.

Serra Verde Express train (three hours) - the most scenic stretch of railway in Brazil, disembarking at Morretes, a small colonial town. Lunch in Morretes. After lunch, we are transferred to Paranaguá, where a boat ride will take us to the Lodge. We arrive at the lodge late afternoon. The area of 400 ha is part of the Environmental protection area of Guaraqueçaba and is located in an estuary behind the Superagui National Park.

The reserve contains almost 70% of primary Atlantic forest, plus areas of secondary rainforest and mangroves. Free evening to enjoy the area.

DAY 03: SEBUÍ NATURAL RESERVE & SUPERAGUI NATIONAL PARK Guided walks and kayaking through the Mata Atlântica Rainforest, mangroves and creeks.

Excursions to Pinheiro Island, refuge of the endemic and endangered red tailed Amazon parrot, as well as nearby fishing villages and beaches.

DAY 04: SEBUÍ NATURAL RESERVE Activities at the Lodge.

DAY 05: SEBUÍ NATURAL RESERVE & CURITIBA Leave by boat Paranaguá. From there private transfer to Curitiba (airport or hotel).

Tips and alternate itineraries: This trip can be combined with an extension to Ilha do Mel. Another option is returning from Paranaguá to Curitiba by the historical Road of Graciosa.

INTRODUCTION

This tour will take us to the best area for Whale Watching activities. Starting in Florianópolis, the capital of Santa Catarina state, one of the 3 states that form the Southern region of Brazil. We will stay at Praia do Rosa (Rosa’s beach) in Imbituba, where we can spot the whales - Southern Right Whale (Eubalaena australis). This package is based on Praia do Rosa, an ideal location for active and nature-oriented families. Praia do Rosa itself is an idyllic beach to unwind, being one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil and member of the “Most Beautiful Bays of the World Club”.

Want to go active? This trip can be combined with active Florianópolis tour (see next page).

DAY 03: Imbituba After breakfast transfer to Imbituba to visit the Whale museum, located in the old whaling station (please note that the museum only opens on certain days).

Afterwards continue through the beach to the fishing area of Laguna , a perfect place to spot dolphins that help the local cottage fisherman catch their fish. This “symbiotic” behavior has been documented in many nature programs including a recent one by National Geographic. Lunch in the area.

Afternoon free back in Praia do Rosa and dinner at the resort.

INTRODUCTION

Florianópolis and surrounding areas in an adventurous way: a 5-day tour with day trips for rafting, biking and trekking your way around. The Island of Santa Catarina, part of the city of Florianopolis, has 45% of its area covered in Atlantic Rainforest, making it an ideal place for outdoors activities.

Coastal paths with dramatic scenery lead to deserted beaches. Inland, some trails opened by the original Azorean settlers still are the only link to isolated communities Others cross nature reserves with lagoons and waterfalls, allowing for wildlife spotting specially bird life. Additionally, the nearby Serra do Tabuleiro State Park offers great opportunities for rafting.

Santa Catarina SANTO AMARO DA IMPERATRIZ

Day Treks in Florianopolis UNSPOILED BEACHES Lagoinha do Leste: possibly the most beautiful beach in Florianópolis, only accessible by trail (about 1 ½ hours of steep walk each away) or boat. Great views on the way.

Naufragados: another beach only accessible by foot or boat. Easy walk of around 4km each way through a nature reserve. Visit to a lighthouse and beautiful views of the south coast at the end.

LAGOONS Costa da Lagoa: an isolated fishing community accessible by trail or boat.

The trail is 7 km long and the return can be done by boat. Quaint and very affordable seafood restaurants at the end to try the local food.

Lagoa do Peri & Sertão do Peri: a longer coast-to-coast walk (3 to 4 hours) passing through a lagoon, small rivers and waterfalls and remains of sugar cane mills. Panoramic views of the Serra do Tabuleiro and East Coast of the Island at the beginning and end.

Duration: 5 - 7 hours, depending on the trek.Level of Difficulty: Beginners to Intermediate, depending on the trek

South of the Island by bike nature reserves, waterfalls, beautiful lagoons and unspoiled beaches.

We will cycle along the most famous southern beaches – Campeche, Morro das Pedras, Armação and Pântano do Sul, taking in also the Lagoa do Peri, a beautiful fresh-water lagoon surrounded by lush Atlantic Rainforest.

Rafting in Santo Amaro Santo Amaro, only 40 km away from the island, is the closest rafting base to Florianópolis. Rafting in the River Cubatão, with rapids class II-III, is ideal for beginners.

Intermediates wanting more adrenaline can also have fun: the “Duck”(inflatable kayaks) expedition is run further upstream in the “Alto Cubatão”, with rapids of level III-IV (optional trip).

The scenery along the river is beautiful: the right margin borders the Serra do Tabuleiro National Park, the biggest Atlantic Rainforest reserve in the vicinity of Florianópolis.

These mountains, which are visible from everywhere in the city, have peaks over 5,000 feet, creating steep, narrow canyons rich in Mata Atlântica. Near the end of the run, close to the town of Caldas da Imperatriz, the scenery is more rural but still attractive.

DAY 2: Train journey to Morretes Pick-up from Curitiba hotel at 07:00. You will be transferred to the railway station for the train journey from Curitiba to Morretes . After several tunnels, bridges and viaducts with vertical drops you will alight around 11:30 am at Morretes, a small colonial town.

After a visit to the historical centre, you will have a typical lunch. In the afternoon, you will visit the historical town of Antonina (15 km far from Morretes) and Antonina Bay and back to Morretes for a 2-night stay at nearby Porto de Cima village.

Our base will be Santuario Nhundiaquara, a 300 ha private nature reserve neighboring the Marumbi State Park. Many opportunities for observing Atlantic Rainforest birds.

DAY 3: Morretes Birding around the lodge and Marumbi Park trails.

DAY 4: Lagamar Transfer to Paranagua to take the boat that will take us to the Lagamar, an estuary inside the World Biosphere Reserve of the Atlantic Rainforest. Our aim is to view marine birds and the endemic red-tailed parrot behind the Superagui National Park.

DAY 5: Itapoá Departure after breakfast by road to Reserva Volta Velha in Itapoá, Santa Catarina, a private nature reserve. This is one of the best areas for birding in South Brazil.

DAY 5: Foz do Iguassu (B) Full day visit to the Argentinean side of the Falls.

DAY 4: Farm – Campo Grande – Foz do Iguassu (B) After lunch, 03 hours private transfer from the farm to Campo Grande, where we´ll fly to Foz do Iguassu. Transfer to the Hotel.

Transfer by private van to the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls, where we will immediately be confronted by fantastic panoramic views. Twenty metres higher than Niagara Falls, Iguazu Falls are without doubt one of the most impressive waterfalls in the world. Located at the confluence of the Rio Iguazu and the Rio Alto Parana, the water cascades over the edge of a 2.5 kilometrewide plateau in 275 separate falls. During our stay we base ourselves in Foz do Iguacu and from there we visit both the Brazilian and Argentinean side of Iguazu Falls. We get to witness the awesome power of the falls close-up, as we take a boat ride that takes us right up to its thunderous base. In the evening we return to our hotel in Foz do Iguacu. DAY 6: Foz do Iguassu & Rio de Janeiro (B) Check-out from Hotel and transfer to airport (flight not included) to departure to Rio de Janeiro.

On arrival at Rio de Janeiro Airport you will be transferred to your hotel located in the heart of Copacabana. Rio is a beautiful city with so many things to see and do. Overnight in Rio de Janeiro.

DAY 7: Rio de Janeiro (B) The Portuguese established a small, fortified settlement on the western side of Rio de Janeiro Bay in 1560. The name means ‘River of January’, a reference to the month when it was founded.

The sugar boom and resulting slave trade saw the settlement grow so rapidly that by the 18th century, the population had reached 50,000 and the city had also become the chief port for a thriving gold industry. Rio is today regarded as the holiday capital of Brazil and its inhabitants, known as ‘Cariocas’, pursue life with a zest. The city is characterised by beautiful white sandy beaches and rolling surf, with towering mountains forming a spectacular backdrop. During our time here we visit Sugar Loaf Mountain and the statue of Christ the Redeemer, which stands on top of a peak known as Corcovado. The views from here are simply sensational. The beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, the colourful and vibrant nightlife and the laid-back and friendly nature of Brazilians will help make your visit to Rio a memorable one.

DAY 8: Rio de Janeiro (B) Favela tour in the morning, a very nice perspective of Rio most famous Favela (Rocinha). Transfer from the Hotel to the Aiport.

The best time to go bird watching and wildlife watching is during the later part of the dry season (September on). Summertime – wet season (dez/april) high temperatures, rain falls, it is the best time to explore rivers and activities in the water.
