The Gonzaga University Bulldogs compete at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics: Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Nearly all varsity teams compete in the highly competitive West Coast Conference (WCC), which includes Brigham Young University, Loyola Marymount University, University of the Pacific, Pepperdine University, Santa Clara University, St. Mary’s College, University of Portland, University of San Diego, and the University of San Francisco. For more information on a specific varsity sport, please e-mail a member of the coaching staff listed on the back.
Gonzaga University believes athletics comprise an integral part of a well-rounded education. In addition to the thrill of competition and the benefits of exercise, athletics provide exciting ways for students to meet friends, discover new hobbies, and relieve stress. Gonzaga sponsors three levels of athletic activity: intramurals, club sports, and NCAA Division I.
Sixty percent of GU students play intramurals during their time at Gonzaga. Students may choose from several popular sports in various leagues to match their level of athletic ability.
THE PLACE The Charlotte Y. Martin Centre houses the majority of Gonzaga’s athletic offices. For varsity sports, its facilities include two basketball and volleyball courts, a golf practice area, a weight room, locker rooms, and an athletic training room. Boasting 38,000 square-feet, the state-of-the-art Rudolf Fitness Center, which is available for all students, provides a multitude of cardio machines, free weights, four racquetball courts, two aerobics rooms, three basketball or volleyball courts, a rubberized running track, a six-lane 25-yard swimming pool, locker rooms, and a Jamba Juice smoothie bar offering healthy drinks and snacks. Most of GU’s Physical Education classes and noncredit fitness classes also meet at the Rudolf Fitness Center. For more information about the Rudolf Fitness Center, please contact 509-313-3974.
