Spokane Community Economics More than $200 million is spent each year on goods and services, in addition to spending by students and more than 15,000 annual visitors to campus. Entertainment Visitors can view new exhibits in the Jundt Art Museum; enjoy men’s and women’s basketball in the McCarthey Athletic Center; see more than 200 pieces from the Bing Crosby Collection in Bing’s childhood home on Gonzaga’s campus; applaud exhilarating theatrical performances in the Magnuson Theatre; and explore resources and historical exhibits in the Foley Center Library. In all, 200,000 people annually attend events on campus. Workforce Gonzaga provides Spokane with a vibrant workforce, including civic leaders, educators, lawyers, business owners, research assistants, volunteers and interns. Gonzaga Today Hemmingson University Center
This new 167,000-square-foot facility is a visionary place where tomorrow’s technology can stream life and learning from across the world, where students can engage each other and collaborate with their professors in flexible spaces. Envision a cuttingedge environment with multiple dining options and opportunities to enjoy the arts, with space to reflect and perform, with resources that respond to changing needs. Who is Gonzaga? Gonzaga is named for the patron saint of youth, Aloysius Gonzaga, who died young trying to save Romans from the plague in the 16th century. Gonzaga University is a Jesuit, Catholic, humanistic university founded in 1887. While basketball programs consistently draw headlines, the heart of Gonzaga centers around nationally recognized and accredited academic programs, our commitment to serving others, and our vibrant community-building approach to college life. “Cura personalis,” or care for the entire person, is a guiding Jesuit ideal here.
Academic Offerings
Gonzaga’s diverse academic programs include 75 undergraduate majors, 25 master’s degree majors, two doctoral programs and a juris doctorate through the School of Law. Undergraduate and graduate programs are housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Schools of Business Administration, Education, Engineering, and Nursing and Human Physiology. Several graduate courses are also offered online as well.
Sports and Recreation
Lose yourself in the spirit and excitement of Gonzaga basketball. Men’s hoops have made 16 straight trips to the NCAA Tournament and play before soldout crowds for every home game. Women’s basketball has logged six straight trips to the Big Dance, and averages more than 5,500 fans per home game. Patterson Baseball Complex and Luger Field provide beautiful settings for West Coast Conference baseball and soccer. The new Stevens Center allows tennis players and golfers the opportunity to play and practice year-round. Meanwhile, students participate in 28 intramural sports, several club teams, and with faculty and staff make 40,000 visits to the Rudolf Fitness Center monthly.
Community Engagement
Gonzaga students offer more than 140,000 hours of volunteer service annually to the community, including pro bono legal counsel under the supervision of attorneys in the Law School, mentoring to improve drop-out rates in Spokane schools, and free on-call assistance through the School of Business to area firms with unmet needs.
