County redistricting plan cleared by DOJ By Ken Odor jodor@goochlandgazette.com

Goochland County’s redistricting plan for local elections has been pre-cleared by the U.S. Department of Justice. The county received the letter June 29, clearing the way for the upcoming Republican primary scheduled for Aug. 23. Goochland County Registrar Frances Ragland was relieved. “I am delighted to have got-

ten the pre-clearance letter,” said Ragland last week. “Friday is my deadline to send out absentee ballots for the primary.” County Attorney Norman Sales said that while the Department of Justice retains the option to litigate, for all practical purposes the new precinct and polling place changes and the new district boundaries for supervisor and school board have been approved. see Redistricting > page 2
