Board of Supervisors Chairman William Quarles said Friday he will seek one more term on the Goochland Board of Supervisors.

Despite objections voiced during an almost four hour long public hearing, the Goochland Planning Commission voted in favor of Benedictine School moving to Goochland. With a 100-year tradition in downtown Richmond, the school is requesting county approval to move its 274 students to the Abbey on

River Road in the fall of 2012. The 50-acre tract that now houses the Benedictine monks is already used by most of the school’s athletic programs, but neighbors along the River Road corridor said the move would negatively impact their neighborhoods The site is bordered by Route 288, the James River, River Road and the Pembroke subdivision. Other neighborhoods are located within earshot of the campus.

County planner Tom Coleman told a packed meeting room that the application raised some concerns, and staff suggested nmerous restrictions on the number of students and water requirements. Coleman said the school would be allotted 10,000 gallons a day. By state standards, that would be cutting it close, but actual usage figures are expected to be much lower, accord-
