Members of the DeWitt Clinton Masonic Lodge gathered to pay tribute to local Mason James Dickerson Jr., last Thursday, honoring the Goochland resident as he marked fifty years with the organization. To celebrate his five decades as a Masonic veteran, Dickerson was presented with a pin and certificate. A retired employee of Powhatan Correctional Center since 1983, Dickerson said that becoming a Mason has enriched his life in countless ways. “It’s all about brotherly love,” he said of the strong friendships he has formed with his fellow Masons. “If you don’t have that, you don’t have anything.” Shown are, from left, Lee Crumpler, James Dickerson, Howard Thurston, Jean Dickerson and Gabe Maupin.

It was this realization, Seay said, that would kick off a planning process he describes as remarkably productive and devoid of the kind of squabbling that sometimes ensue when organizations delve into large-scale building projects. The project wasn’t completed overnight — a heavy reliance on volunteer labor meant that timelines had to be stretched a bit, said Bill Webster, who chaired the steering committee that oversaw the work — but the end result
