After 50 years, county’s zoning ordinance will have new look

Less than a full year after beginning his tenure as Goochland County’s registrar, it was confirmed on Tuesday that Winston Forrest is no longer employed by the county. The move comes with just three weeks to go before the congressional midterm elections. Electoral Board secretary Robin Lind declined to go into further detail about Forrest’s Forrest departure on Tuesday, calling it a personnel matter. Lind said his board has appointed Ryan Mulligan,

Now approaching its 50th birthday, Goochland County’s zoning ordinance is getting a makeover. According to the county’s Director of Community Development Jo Ann Hunter, county staff has been making steady progress on an overhaul of the document, working to streamline, update and demystify several sections that are less than user-friendly in their current state. In addition to ensuring that the ordinance aligns with the county’s current comprehensive plan, Hunter told supervisors during the board’s Oct. 2 meeting that there is also a focus on reformatting, including adding charts, diagrams and graphs where they are appropriate. Hunter explained to board members that the county had been averaging around one zoning ordinance amendment a month in recent years, a clear indication that some revisions were needed. Future firefighters take the wheel Two youngsters spent a few gleeful minutes last Saturday at the wheel of a fire engine during a fundraising event for Company 5 Fire-Rescue. The two were part of an enthusiastic crowd that came out to help raise money for much-needed repairs to the company’s firehouse and grounds.
