Norman B. Sales is set to take over as Goochland’s next county attorney. He will be the newest addition to an administration that has replaced several key positions, including county administrator and utilities director, since mismanagement was discovered in the utilities department last winter. At their meeting last Tuesday, Goochland’s Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve Sales’ appointment. Sales will replace Andrew R. McRoberts, who resigned from the role last May after serving for eight years. The board also voted to extend the contract of former Hanover deputy county attorney Barbara M. Rose, who has served as interim county attorney since McRoberts’ departure, until Sales comes to Goochland on January 18. Sales, who graduated from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at College of William and Mary, has 27 years of legal experience, 20 of those in local government law. From 2005-2009, Sales served as Richmond’s city attorney. Chairman of the Board Andrew Pryor said that Sales, who will not be required to live in the county, is retiring from that job Dec. 31. “I think we’ve found an excellent candidate,” said Supervisor William E. Quarles. “He has the experience, he’s worked in the big city and saw all types of things see BOS> page 3
