Heroin found stashed in man’s mouth Contributed Report

Goochland deputies arrested a Richmond man on May 28 after finding eight packets of what is believed to be heroin inside the man’s mouth. Herbert Lee Evans, 42, of the 5400 block of Parker Street in Richmond, was initially stopped for speeding by Sergeant Greg Bock of the Goochland County Sheriff’s Office at 8:15 p.m. During the stop, Bock determined that Evans was driving on a suspended license. While questioning Evans, Bock noticed that Evans was chewing on and attempting to swallow a Evans plastic bag. After a brief struggle, Bock and deputies Sean Whitlock and Shawn Creasey pried eight individually wrapped packages of a material believed to be heroin from Evans’ mouth. They also recovered almost $300 from Evans’ pocket. Evans was charged with distribution of heroin, obstruction of justice, and driving on a suspended license.

Hats off to GHS grads Goochland High School marked its commencement ceremony on May 29, offering the 170 members of the class of 2014 a chance to come together one more time and celebrate their accomplishments. After a welcome by division superintendent Dr. James Lane, the graduates were treated to some words of wisdom from Goochland residents Richard and Kathy Verlanders. The Verlanders, parents of Major League Baseball star — and Goochland High School graduate — Justin Verlander, challenged the students to persevere, regardless of the odds they faced, in the interest of pursuing their dreams.
