MacKay to step down as leader of Fire-Rescue

After eight years serving as the head of Goochland County’s Fire-Rescue operation, Chief William “Bill” MacKay will be leaving the role on Jan. 31, 2019. Reached by phone on Monday, MacKay said he has not yet decided if he will completely retire or continue to work in some capacity, but explained that he felt it was “the right time” to make the change. He cited a desire to spend more time with family as a key factor in his decision, pointing out the challenges of maintaining the 24-7 commitment the MACKAY role requires. For over 12 years, Hennigan and Goochland Social Services have coordinated the shopping and delivery of Christmas packages for youth of all ages.
