Shelter project moving ahead despite delays

A grand

FINALE

As proud families looked on, Goochland’s Class of 2019 celebrated the final day of their high school careers. This week, a few of those grads share the photos that mean the most to them from that day. See page 5.

Above: McKenzie Lyda, left, celebrates with her sister Chloe. “This photo is very special to me because I felt immense joy and pride for my sister before, during, and after the ceremony,” said Chloe. McKenzie graduated two years early, and will pursue a career in music at Berklee College of Music this fall. Contributed photos

County confirms work on much-anticipated project is around six months behind By Roslyn Ryan Editor

When construction first began on the county’s new state-of-the-art animal shelter and pet adoption center on Hidden Rock Lane, many local animal lovers began counting down to the day when the county would officially cut the ribbon on the 14,000 square foot facility. Now, however, it seems they will be waiting much longer than originally planned. According to Goochland County Administrator John Budesky, the county has terminated its relationship with BFE Construction, the general contractor on the project, and begun working with the company that issued a performance bond for the work in order to get back on track. Budesky said the move came after it was determined that the contractor was not meeting the terms agreed upon with the county. see Animal shelter > 2
