A Goochland judge on June 11 approved a $5 million settlement in a wrongful death case against a Chesterfield County woman in the deaths of three people who were struck while standing in a median along Route 288 in Goochland County. Claire C. Carr, an attorney with the law firm Kalbaugh, Pfund and Messersmith, P.C., still is awaiting trail in the criminal case and faces three counts of involuntary manslaughter in the deaths of Justin C. Ransone, 41, Amy L. Abbott, 45, and Linli Xu, 25. Carr was driving near West Creek Parkway in Goochland on the night of the crash, June 27. Ransone and Abbott, a couple who had been living in Glen Allen, stopped to assist Xu, a Midlothian woman who had exited

A Ruckersville man will spend the next year in jail after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of a woman he struck
with his car on Interstate 64 last April. Travis Rios, 24, and Augusta May Woodward, 40, of Madison County, had been traveling together in from Madison to Chesterfield at around 10 p.m. on April 13,
