CUP request for concert series at West Creek scrapped amid noise concerns
‘Drop box’ for drug disposal now available in Goochland Contributed report
By Roslyn Ryan Editor
A proposed concert series to be located at Goochland’s West Creek business park is now off the table, after opposition from county residents living near the site led to the withdrawal of a conditional use permit (CUP) request for the project. Representatives from EventMakers USA Inc., the company that oversees the popular Innsbrook After Hours concert series, had been asking the county Board of Supervisors for permission to host a total of four concerts in 2020, and then up to 15 events between May and October for each year remaining on the permit. But while the CUP would have limited concerts to Saturdays and Sundays and put decibel limits on noise, those opposed to the project shared a wide-ranging list of reasons why the concert series was the wrong fit for the area. see Concert series > 4

The Rural Substance Abuse Awareness Coalition (RSAAC) of Goochland and Powhatan Counties and Goochland Pharmacy recently announced the installment of the first drug disposal drop box in Goochland County. The disposal box, known as “The Lonely Dropbox” is located at Goochland Pharmacy on route 522 at 1956 Sandy Hook Rd in Goochland, Virginia. This is a resource for community members who want to dispose of their prescription drugs. Not only does this initiative prevent unused and unwanted medications from finding their way to our water supply, but it also keeps them out of local medicine cabinets. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH, 2017) demonstrates that the majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from someone you know, and most often from someone’s home medicine cabinet.
