Goochland’s former Hadensville Fire Station will soon be home to a towing and repair company, after county supervisors on Oct. 1 approved a requested Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for the property. Board members voted 4-1 in favor of the permit requested by Bumpass Towing owner James Sumrell, with District 1 representative Susan Lascolette casting the only vote against it. Vacant since the county’s Company 6 relocated to a new, state-of-the-art facility just across the road, the former station house and its .55 acres were purchased last year by Sumrell, who already has operations in Louisa and Powhatan. But while Sumrell had previously been granted a rezoning of the property, he still needed the CUP in order to be able to operate his business, one of the only wrecker services in the area capable of handling large scale vehicles such as tractor trailers. Sumrell told supervisors during the rezoning application process that the property was ideal
