Board gives new school green light By Roslyn Ryan Editor
Goochland County is one step closer to having its first new school in over 50 years, after county supervisors unanimously approved a Conditional Use Permit for the project on Dec. 3. While the design of the school is still in its early stages, information provided as part of the CUP application reveal that the new school is expected to be approximately 92,000 square feet, with the capacity to serve 650 students. Its scale, according to District 4 supervisor Bob Minnick, would make it one of the largest capital improvement projects undertaken in the county in recent memory, second only to the creation of the Tuckahoe Creek Service District. The new school, which will take the place of the current Goochland Elementary School 3150 River Road, will be located just west of Bulldog Way and directly across from the county’s connected high school and middle school complex.
