Board grants CUP for Hermitage Rd. cell tower project

Despite strong opposition from a number of residents living near the site of a planned communications tower on Hermitage Road, county supervisors on Feb. 4 delivered a 3-2 decision in favor of granting a Conditional Use

Permit (CUP) for the project. The permit had been requested by South Carolinabased Beacon Towers, and was required before construction could begin on the 199-foot communication tower at 966 Hermitage Road in Goochland. And while residents in recent months had expressed concerns ranging from the

tower’s potential impact on property values to whether it was needed at all, Beacon Towers representative Jonathan Yates insisted to board members—reiterating statements he had made at the Planning Commission hearing for the project last month — that the chosen location is ideal for such a project.
