Let it never be said that Goochland doesn’t cherish its local restaurants. Last week, within hours of a “For Sale” sign being placed in
front of 116 Broad Street Road in Manakin Sabot—better known as Satterwhite’s restaurant—social media lit up with speculation that the beloved local eatery was closing its doors. Fortunately, said owner Ryan Snyder on Monday, rumors of

News travels fast in a small, tight-knit community, he explained, and he wanted to see what was happening. He knew that his sister, Ashley Brice, lived in the house that was now considered a crime scene. What he wouldn’t be told for hours later, he remembers, was that his sister had been killed. Officers wouldn’t let him see the body, Brice remembers, but eventually an investigator confirmed the news. He BRICE would soon learn that Berdie Lee Tyler Jr., 54 of Columbia, the brother of a man that Brice had been in a relationship with, was the man alleged to have killed his sister. According to the Goochland County Sheriff ’s Office, on Jan. 8 at approximately 10:15 p.m., deputies TYLER responded to Tyler’s home for a reported gunshot wound. When deputies arrived they located Brice, 35, unconscious and bleeding
