Eric stood in front of the elevator doors, waiting for them to open. He heard the familiar “bing” and readied himself to walk away from his dream. It was 1977 in New York City, and it was a watershed moment in his life. Realizing this, Eric instinctively turned around, walked back through the lobby, past the receptionist, through the heavy double doors, and back into the expansive office. The Godfather of Grasscloth looked up from behind his oversized desk and said, “I thought I told you to get out.” Eric looked at him and said, “Sir, you are so successful. In order to become so successful, at some point in your life, someone must have given you a break. I’m not asking for much. I’ll pay you $2,000 for as much grasscloth as you can give me. It’s alI I have. Can you give me my big break and help me get started?” That moment changed everything for our father. And now, 45 years later, his dream lives on. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to realize a dream. We are grateful for you - our PJ team, our partners, and our clients for joining us on this journey. While much has changed since those humble beginnings with just 10 grasscloths and a dream, some things remain the same. We continue to build on the foundation our father Eric created – building the strongest relationships through hard work, meticulous attention to quality, and always keeping our word. Today, we look forward to a bright future. In a year of unprecedented logistical challenges, we are proud to say we continue to have the fastest delivery in the industry. With more than a million yards in stock at our New Jersey warehouse, we are able to ship award-winning designs the very same day. Last year, during uncertain times, we opened new showrooms in Florida, Los Angeles, and Chicago - for a total of nine showrooms worldwide. Ask any installer and they’ll tell you that Phillip Jeffries is their favorite wallcovering to install. Why? Our wallcoverings never have issues with color bleeding, materials delaminating, or a host of other problems that may come up during installation. Some grasscloths look great in a sample but look completely different when installed. Our grasscloths have the most consistent color and texture. They’re made from the finest materials and meticulously laminated at our mill in Japan.

TAKE FLIGHT A Mother's Day Makeover

Sweet Dreams "We started with a white box in the sky," she says. "We added warmth to the entry and hallway ceilings by adding both a stained and bleached walnut wood treatment." Custom built-in cabinetry was designed for the great room, study, master closet, and laundry room. Lighting fixtures both old and new were incorporated into the spaces. Fabric panels were made to enhance the separation between the foyer entry and the great room environments. "I have always been most intrigued by residences that reveal themselves over time," says Kelli. "So although we were given a standard floor plan, the fabric walls help to set the scene." ometimes it’s more than simply wallcovering. Kelli Fontana Vogelgesang of West Bay Homes took on a personal project when she created this primary bedroom for her mother featuring Phillip Jeffries Flight collection in Sunrise.

Kelli lets us in on her personal journey as she reimagined her mother’s new home. When her mother first visited this magnificent new construction property, she took in the views high above the mangroves and the tallest palm trees on the west coast of Florida and fell in love with the space.

Kelli created a wallpaper story with a dynamic Phillip Jeffries canvas mural on the master headboard wall but took the liberty of extending this breathtaking canvas mural by conceptualizing a hand-painted sunset atrium mural with local artist Marti Koehler. "My mom was recently widowed, and she was adjusting to her new life in a new home. I wanted her to wake up and fall asleep surrounded by color and beauty. An avid bird watcher and lover of color, I knew she would swoon when I came across this Phillip Jeffries wallcovering. It evokes the true spirit of surrendering to good design and allowing materials to tell your story!"

Returning to Naples, Florida, where Kelli grew up to create a special space for her mother was an incredible delight.

HOUSE BEAUTIFUL

WHOLE HOME CONCEPT HOUSE

his year, the House Beautiful Whole Home Concept House is tailor-made to foster work, play, and pressing pause. In its fourth installment, HB proves that building a dream home in a pandemic is possible! Welcome to Texas Hill Country and the 750-acre "agrihood" community in Fredericksburg, Texas, aptly named Hidden Springs. The area has historically German roots with settlements dating back 175 years. House Beautiful partnered with local builder Tyler O’Brien of Agave Custom Homes to create a craftsman-inspired farmhouse that seamlessly connects to the landscape where livestock roam freely on a 30-acre nature preserve. Once the house was complete, eight top design teams were selected to help redefine what today’s ideal home should be. Phillip Jeffries was honored to work with five of these design teams: Studio Munroe, Toledo Geller Designs, Laura Hodges Studio, French & French Interiors, and Jean Liu Design. The results are stunning!

THE TASTING ROOM BREEZEWAY

DESIGNED BY: Jean Lui WALLCOVERING: Haven 8930 Dallas-based designer Jean Liu of Jean Liu Design created a covered outdoor space for al fresco drinks. Originally a breezeway between the house and the garage, it has motorized retractable screens and gorgeous backyard views. Jean chose a Phillip Jeffries mural wallcovering (Haven in Elysian Fields). Jean needed something large-scale to provide a point of interest, so she chose four panels to frame in a collage design on the wall. It perfectly complemented the color palette and gave the large wall visual interest. Consider the bar for at-home bars officially raised.

DESIGNED BY: Laura Hodges WALLCOVERING: Arrowroot Inlay 8160 When creating a biophilic space that connects back to nature, Baltimore-based designer Laura Hodges of Laura Hodges Studio likes to use natural materials like wood and hemp in addition to lots of live plants. She decided to make the home office double as a no-pressure workout room. “Having the two-in-one room is not only dual-purpose, but it also makes sure that you’re using the space,” she explained to HB. “It’s not just a home office that you sometimes use and otherwise goes unused.” Laura lined the bookshelves with Phillip Jeffries Arrowroot Inlay for an organic, textural detail. While the room is intentionally Zen, it still feels like a part of the house with functional and beautiful design elements.

THE LANDING ZONE LIVING ROOM & ENTRYWAY

DESIGNED BY: Emilie Munroe, Studio Munroe WALLCOVERINGS: Mirage 8728 and Pure Imagination Beyond With 700 square feet of space and a soaring 20-foot-high vaulted ceiling, the cavernous living room was challenging to make feel warm and inviting. Emilie Munroe of San Francisco firm Studio Munroe led the charge. “Let’s be bold, let’s be colorful, let’s be vibrant and forward-thinking and create a magical environment for welcoming people into this home,” she told HB. A deep-sea blue on the walls set the tone with a custom Phillip Jeffries multicolored wallcovering, Beyond, showcasing billowing clouds during a dramatic sunrise. She carries this nature-inspired color scheme throughout the room and into the ombré print, Mirage, in the entryway. A wonderful welcome home, indeed.

Wife-and-husband duo Heather and Matt French, of Santa Fe’s French & French Interiors, splashed the media room with bold pattern, dramatic color, and tons of texture. “This whole end of the house is a place where grandkids or guests can hang out, play games, share stories, just be connected,” Matt told HB. The duo really wanted to have texture in this space and chose a rich, jewel-toned artisanal wallcovering, Harmony Hyacinth in Emerald Unity. If texture, color, and pattern were the jumping-off points, this is the perfect place to land.

THE OWNER’S RETREAT MAIN BEDROOM

In celebration of the rolling Hill Country landscape, Virginia Toledo and Jessica Geller, of Toledo Geller in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, designed the first-floor owner’s retreat with natural textures in mind. Seizing the opportunity to infuse their signature soft modern aesthetic to the space, the pair got to work adding color in a subtle, cheerful way to the master bedroom. “For the color scheme, we're in a happy place so we added some yellow to the walls and throughout the room.” Jessica told HB. “It brings some excitement into the bedroom, but in a really calm, serene way.” A texture and color powerhouse, Phillip Jeffries Oxhorn in Celadon, a mustard yellow natural wallcovering made of linen and paper, was chosen for the walls. Upholstery and textiles with touches of tobacco browns, milky creams, and pale pinks finished the room. The perfect respite from daily life.
