Job Training & Career Services Bring Jobs Home Goodwill offers job training programs for individuals facing barriers to employment. Some participants with limited work histories, educational attainment, and/or English language skills complete a work-readiness program as the first step toward a job in customer service, food service, retail, housekeeping, administration, and other fields. Others may choose to enter a skills-training program that prepares them to succeed in a specific industry, such as human services. Individuals with disabilities who require structured support to work are often trained on-the-job and, over time, transition to work in the community. Training programs include: • First Step – A three-week job readiness training program. • Human Services Employment Ladder Program – An eight-week training program to prepare individuals to work in human services. • Employment Supports Program – Programs in Boston, Springfield, and Salem are designed to help adults with disabilities obtain supported and competitive employment. • Will to Work – A program designed to help young adults with disabilities, ages 22-25, obtain competitive employment. • Transition to Work – A collaboration with school departments in Boston, Chicopee, Holyoke, Palmer, and Springfield to help young people with disabilities, ages 18-22, understand the world of work. • Project SEARCH – A collaboration with the Boston Public Schools that offers a school-year long internship program to prepare young students with disabilities for competitive employment.

Goodwill also offers community-based day supports and day habilitation programs for individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities. Career and Workforce Centers In Boston, Goodwill operates MassHire Boston Career Center, which is part of the Massachusetts One-Stop Career Center network connecting workers with employers. MassHire Boston Career Center offers universal access to a broad range of career counseling services, career resources, workshops, job fairs, mass hiring events, and special programs to connect job seekers with employers. Job seekers learn about current openings, receive assistance with their job searches, learn job search techniques, and receive instruction on how to apply for a job online. Businesses come to MassHire Boston Career Center throughout the year to conduct on-site interviews with qualified, pre-screened job seekers or to participate in job fairs. In Springfield, the Workforce Development Academy provides similar services for individuals entering and returning to the workforce. Job seekers from the community as well as referrals from the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance and the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission are welcome. Goodwill works with many employment partners throughout the Springfield area to match job seekers and employers.

Computer Recycling Program Goodwill’s computer recycling program creates job opportunities and gives residential donors a way to dispose of old computer equipment that is easy, convenient, and doesn’t harm the environment. The program is in partnership with Dell Reconnect.

Businesses & Goodwill Bring Opportunities Home Businesses such as Tufts Medical Center, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, Bank of America, MGM Grand Casino, WestMass Elder Care and others have reaped the many benefits of being a Goodwill business partner, including pre-screened candidates, reduced recruiting costs, trained and dedicated workers, increased employee retention, and access to tax credits. These benefits and more contribute to a healthier bottom line for business partners. On-site Workforce Goodwill provides business solutions to companies with light assembly, packaging, and fulfillment needs. Goodwill’s mobile work crews work on-site at the place of business. The result is an effective, flexible workforce that is responsive to the needs of the business.

Social Enterprises Bring Good Home The Goodwill Stores The Goodwill Stores are a social enterprise offering gently used donated clothing and household items to a broad range of individuals and families at very affordable prices. At the same time, they provide on-the-job training and internship opportunities to individuals enrolled in Goodwill job training programs, as well as jobs and career-ladder opportunities. AbilityOne Goodwill’s AbilityOne program provides custodial and housekeeping services for more than seven million square feet of government office buildings. AbilityOne is a federal initiative to help people with disabilities find employment by delivering services to the U.S. government.
