JAMIEL SHAW FATHER OF JAMIEL SHA W II, ADVOCATE MONDAY
On March 2, 2008, Jamiel Shaw’s son, Jamiel Andre’ Shaw, II (“Jas”), was murdered while returning home from the Beverly Center Mall in Los Angeles, California. The shooter was a gang member in the United States illegally. He had been released from jail less than 24 hours before he killed Jas, even though there was a “deportation hold” on him. In honor of Jas’s life, Jamiel Sr. has worked tirelessly to raise awareness about our broken immigration system and ensure that no parent loses a child this way again. He has worked to secure passage of Jamiel’s Law, a proposed ordinance that would deny “sanctuary city” protection to all illegal immigrants who belong to gangs in the City of Los Angeles. Donald Trump has brought national attention to Jamiel Sr.’s work and Jas’s story. He has been a strong supporter of the Jamiel’s Law. Link to official page
