How to Get Your Family in the Holiday Spirit Gordon Sinclair

As we get further and further into the year, the sound of sleigh bells ringing becomes clearer and more transparent. If you’re one of those parents that end up scrambling to try and find something for your kids to do, here are a few things that will get your family into the holiday spirit.

Decorate Cookies

It doesn’t take a lot to get a festive cookie decorating night. Just pick up a couple of festive-shaped cookie cutters, some icing, and some sprinkles.

With the help of a recipe, you’ll have some incredible cookies that give your kids the satisfaction of creating something and give you a night to remember with your kids! Don’t forget to take photos, these nights are definitely worth remembering!

Take a lights tour

Most likely, someplace you’re living has a holiday lights tour, whether it’s city hall or your own neighborhood!

Grab your kids and take a walk around the neighborhood, or even go by car! You can turn on the Christmas music and rock out while you take a ride around, looking at the glistening lights. You can make a whole night of it! Go out to dinner, and then go look at Christmas lights! Your kids will love looking at the glistening lights, making this a tradition to do every year!

Family decorating

Deck the halls with boughs of holly!

Something that kids look forward to every year is definitely decorating the house. Turn up the music as you put up the tree, and let the kids have reign over how they decide to decorate the tree, bonus points if there are ornaments from school or ones that you’ve done with them! It gives a homey feeling to the tree. Make sure to decorate all over! The front porch, the dining room, don’t forget the fireplace!

Make and send out holiday cards

A holiday favorite is definitely taking family photos and sending them to friends and extended family.

Make sure this can be something fun for the whole family! The sillier, the better. These photos will be saved as your kids grow up. Have your family dress up in bathing suits if you’re in a warmer climate, or all bundled up in the snow if you’re somewhere cold! This gives the people closest to you something nice to remember when your kids were little all the way until they’re grown up. As the holiday season progresses, you can also hang up the cards that you get! It’s a nice memento to keep the people closest to you in your mind.
