Meet the Editor & Founder “I am the outcast!” Ever since I was little, I always felt different from the other kids. Growing up in an interracial family that exposed me to so many different things allowed me to see the world’s variety of people. Variety of people’s appearances, sexual orientations, lifestyles, etc. Some would say I always geared towards being “different” or “unique”, due to the fact that even at a very young age I began to discover more music, fashion, and open-mindedness than other kids my age. When I was little I always dreamt of becoming a fashion designer or a model, so that I could create pieces of style or create images that people found interesting, fresh, and different rather than what we see in the media. As I got older I got more and more infatuated with anything and (basically) everything considered out of the ordinary. Because I found that people usually didn’t like those things that were different due to the fact that they were either afraid, didn’t understand it, or were afraid because they didn’t understand it. I always found that if something was different, then it intrigued me to challenge myself to find out more, to understand it. By the age of 12, I dabbled into piercings and coloring my hair unnatural colors, and then later

learned how to tattoo, and even got a tattoo at age 16. Even today and throughout the ages of piercings, hair dyes, and tattoos I’ve had countless times of kids and even adults ask me why I do what I do (modifying, etc.) and I never really thought about it being a big deal because it’s what I grew up with, and I realised that there aren’t very many people like me out in the media of society. While growing into my pre-teens/teens I always felt out of place, and found that there was never an outlet for me. I would buy every magazine in a store and scavenger through each one trying to find someone to relate to, just to find the same in the same magazines, talking about the same B.S. they want to sell you trying to get you to buy things to “look better”. When in reality we should be embracing and helping each other, highlighting the positives and talents that everyone has within them, rather than telling people what’s wrong with them and how they can fix something that’s not a problem to themselves but to the people that buy what they tell you to because it’s the “fetch” thing to do (if you get my second “” reference you’re awesome, js.)

When it started Anyways, I got the idea to start something called, Gorgeous Misfitz back in 2012. That’s when I was about 14, so I had no idea what to make of GGMZ but always kept it on the backburner. Until 2014-Cont. , when I joined my school’s Newspaper staff and became the only layout designer along with being a reporter. During the production process I found it to be a very natural environment for myself because it allowed me to meet and talk with varieties of people that shared their stories and talents. Which made me realise I could do the same thing but with a magazine and I could call it that name I came up with back in 2012. So I did and here you are, about to embark on the coolest magazine you’ve ever read. Made by the weirdos for the weirdos! Love, Kyndal S. aka Kida M.

Meet The Creative Director Bianca W.

Being strange has always been my calling card. I was the cheerleader who also worked at a haunted house during football season. I have always wanted to be a journalist. I worked for the local online newspaper during late junior high and early high school. I have been a gypsy for a while but have settled in Austin, Texas. I am working towards a degree and hoping to attend the University of Texas to complete my Master’s degree. I have never wanted to just be ‘okay’ or ‘average.’ For me, it has always been ALL or nothing. I am hoping that we are able to get GGMZ off the ground in the next year or so. I would LOVE to have an office building full of strange, unique, weirdoes all talking about the things that matter in life. I want to help inspire others to follow their dreams and know that being yourself is all you should ever want to be.

Thank you to all the people who helped make the Gorgeous Misfitz Magazine come to life. It’s been a long and very difficult road to make this magazine work. Thanks to all the artist, out there whether their models, photographers, musicians, or etc. that were kind enough to let me share their faces and stories throughout the magazine. Thanks to all the donation givers from gofundme.com! You all are, and will always be greatly appreciated. Lastly thanks to all the fans and supporters that simply read the magazine and spread the word. You help keep the magazine going!

Thank You!

“It wasn’t something that happened overnight, nor was it a feeling I had experienced when I was a child; after suffering with depression and the constant battle of dislike and distaste I had with myself when I was 18, I decided to change things up and dress differently in a Japanese fashion called ‘dansou’ (females/gender-neutral/ FtM ((transitioning from female to male)) persons wear Japanese male fashion). After the unbelievable amount of confidence and happiness I felt within the clothes, it became more and more comforting to the point where I did not dare show myself without being able to pass as a male. I embraced this unexpected feeling and now identify as a trans* male.” “The best experiences would most certainly be the responses from individuals all over the world who empathize with my own transition and feel comforted knowing that they are not the only ones suffering. Whenever I receive a message about my journey uplifting those who have found it difficult to continue, that alone is worth every second of hardship that I face.”

SHUN “The worst experience would be the development of my chest problems because of binding my chest. Unfortunately, if done incorrectly, binding can cause serious damage to someone internally and I learnt this the hard way; without it, it is extremely depressing not being able to wear the clothes I want or look the way I dream of looking.” “Do not give up your journey. You only have one life to live; what better way to live it than being true to yourself? If ever in doubt, seek like-minded people that can empathize with your suffering because the difficult steps you take

What is your life motto? Honestly, ‘you only live once’. It’s an overused statement but the message of it is true nonetheless; you only live once, so why not live it fully in order to attain the most amount of happiness you possibly can? There are only so many things one person can do and achieve, and I find that everyone should strive for a life that they themselves believe is a life fulfilled.

will be worth it in the end.” I want to show that there is no conventional way of looking, even in the alternative scene. Each label is tied with its own stereotype, and breaking those stereotypes is something I have naturally done throughout my life. I hope to continue with this mindset and encourage others to embrace themselves.

Introducing

Mea Mostro A 28 year old female artist from Italy (Turin)

“I like to get inspiration for my works from the small things of everyday life: a seashell, a rusty car, a hot summer sunset... Anything can be a good start. Then, I simply imagine a story and draw a scene that is rich in details and projects you into it.

Introducing

Bella Cotelli & Second Sons Est. June 10, 2014

The Beginning I’d been doing photography for roughly 3 years and was really interested in starting up a group to showcase alternative people. Then, I met Cherokee Rose, she was interested in modeling and fit the look I wanted perfectly. She’s the first Bella Coltelli girl. From there we’ve just kept growing as a community. Become a BC&SS model We’re not an agency or anything like that, we’re just a group of alternative people who like modeling and stuff. So when it comes to people joining it really comes down to whether or not you get voted in by other members. all hopefuls are voted on by current members, so if the previous conditions are met, then you might get voted in.

BC& SS’s main goal Celebrating alternative culture through modeling and to promote the endeavors of its members, as well as the parent company, my media business Exquisite Underdog Media. Many of our members have goals outside of modeling, and some have goals to become amazingly successful models, so we offer the freedom to model and shoot the way they choose to, acting as a home for their modeling desires. BC&SS in 5 years As long as we’re happy, together, and still focused on celebrating alternative culture, I’ll be happy, but to have some members in Europe or Asia would be amazing, maybe even South America. Style 3-21 Style 3-21 is basically merch for Exquisite Underdog Media, it’s usually modeled by BC & SS.

Foolish Heart of mine By Raven Who will love the girl? With the foolish heart Made of the most fragile glass to exist Who will care about the girl? When she’s broken When she’s hurt When that’s over Who will save the girl? From her foolish heart From her self From the lies Who will love me? Who will care about me? Who will save me? Who will set me free?

Monuments with Arms, Embracing By Mike Lhai Look at the mountains, so unyielding They hold each other so close, like lovers. They confine my imagination Their closeness never evades, though, miles apart And after all this change, they stay the same If feels so memorable Like we’ve been there too Like a lifetime has been spent, sitting on the hillside, sharing our reality As night comes in, they fade, like the flames on the treetops, burning away my affection In moments, they are gone The beauty of their love retires to my memory Though, I thought they would never leave Now, just wave us off Like we’d never remember Make the way straight As we depart, these memories serve nothing And my, aren’t they beautiful They dance in the sunlight and never let go Aren’t the mountains lovely Holding the weight of the sky, in all their grandeur I wish this beauty would never leave But, the landscape, slowly folds over, and nothing is left but the still of shadowed stone Where do you plan to go from here? Soon, your body will break down and your pigment will fade You’ll search for your life, but it will be long gone behind you Aren’t the mountains lovely Such beauty that waits with the morning light You hug the darkened earth, as it seizes your wonder And I wait in stillness But with such peaceful calm, even the dimness, turns to starlight, as you give yourself to something that will never bring out your beauty Something that will never deserve to hold you Now, just wave it off Like you’d never remember Make the way straight Those memories will die with the sunrise When your body breaks down and your pigment fades, I hope you look back on your life and see beauty Because only beauty deserves you But, if this night never ends I will wait forever, and only dream of morning.
