According to a research study published in 2019 in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, just one session of reiki “improves multiple variables related to physical and psychological health.”

In private reiki practices across the United States, 99 trained and certified reiki masters conducted in-person reiki sessions for 1,411 persons for 45 or 90 minutes. Statistically significant improvements were noted regarding both positive and negative effects, pain, drowsiness, nausea, anxiety, depression and overall well-being.

Research studies regarding reiki’s effects on animals, however, are minimal. In the evidence-based information available, an article from 2021 on the American Kennel Club website states, “The number one primary benefit and response to reiki with animals is stress relief and deep relaxation.”

Reiki can help animals prepare for and recover from surgery. Reiki can help ease the dying process. Reiki can improve animal-human connections. It goes to show that the universally guided spiritual energy of reiki can help all creatures great and small.
