L AY C O C K S T R E E T C O WELCOME TO OUR 2017 EDUCATION SEASON AT LAYCOCK STREET COMMUNITY THEATRE Laycock Street Community Theatre's education program encourages Central Coast students to connect with live theatre in a meaningful way. Where possible, each performance offers free, downloadable support materials for teachers to enhance the theatre experience and focus on the integration of creative arts back in the classroom. The resource materials are designed to prepare students for the performance, extend thinking and link to a broad range of curriculum areas. A complimentary theatre ticket is provided for teachers accompanying school groups (one ticket for every fifteen students). If that allocation does not allow you to adequately supervise your students, please speak directly with our Box Office staff as additional teacher tickets can be purchased at the student price. You may wonder why some of the shows fall outside standard school hours. In order for a production’s national tour to work, theatres occasionally need to program a performance on a weekday/weekend/schooltime/holidaytime that is not always ideal for all target audiences. We hope that you are able to find the show and time that best suits you and your students and we will do everything possible to accommodate your group. Seats are limited, so please book early to ensure that you and your students don’t miss out. Confirmation of final numbers and full payment are not required until one month prior to the performance date. For further Theatre information contact: Ticket Sales Officer, Laycock Street Community Theatre, 5 Laycock Street, North Gosford, NSW 4323 3233, melissa.chandler@centralcoast.nsw.gov.au gosford.nsw.gov.au/theatres

"Mr Stink stank. He also stunk. And if it was correct English to say he stinked, then he stinked as well…” It all starts when Chloe, just about the loneliest girl in the world, makes friends with Mr Stink, the local tramp. Sure he smells a bit, but he’s the only person who’s ever been nice to her. So, when Mr Stink needs a place to stay, Chloe decides to hide him in the garden shed. Now Chloe's got to make sure no one finds out her secret, but she’s about to learn that some secrets have a way of leading to disaster. And speaking of secrets, there just might be more to Mr Stink than meets the eye… or the nose… The team behind The 52-Storey Treehouse Live on Stage returns with this touching, twisted, hilarious, and very smelly tale… hold on to your nose!

Millions of young people around the world have adored the multi awardwinning picture book, Diary of a Wombat. Now, finally, this iconic work by Australian Children’s Laureate (2014/15) Jackie French, and Bruce Whatley comes to the stage. Meet Mothball, the naughtiest wombat in Australia. Bored with her daily routine, Mothball goes in search of shelter and food, creating chaos in the lives of the humans around her. Doormats, bins and washing lines are no match for this mischievous marsupial. Between a packed schedule of scratching, sleeping and eating, Mothball discovers that with a bit of persistence, humans are quite easily trained! Monkey Baa and a team of revered artists including Puppetry and Movement Director, Alice Osborne (War Horse 2012/13), Designer Imogen Ross (Hitler’s Daughter) and accomplished composer/cellist, Oonagh Sherrard use the magic of puppetry and live music to bring this delightful story for ages three and above to the stage.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt is the wonderful story of a family out for a walk and on the lookout for a growling bear - they have to march through long swishy grass, wade through thick gloopy mud and even battle a snow storm before entering a big dark cave where maybe, they will finally spot the glinty wet eyes of a slobbering, gigantic bear winking at them through the blackness. This 55 minute, mini-musical captures the fun and frolics of a father who is clearly still a child at heart, his three children including a tiny intrepid bear hunter in the making, a baby strapped to dad’s back, plus the family dog and of course....a BIG BROWN CUDDLY BEAR! Settle in for this classic story, retold.

The Gothic horror story swoops the country in a gripping, critically-acclaimed production created by shake & stir. When young lawyer Jonathan Harker visits Castle Dracula deep within the Carpathian mountains, he's not expecting the strange hospitality he receives from his mysterious host. Alone and trapped within the castle walls, Jonathan discovers that Dracula wants more than his presence at the dinner table - he might also be the main course. Leaving Jonathan for dead and his castle behind, Dracula travels to London on a quest for seduction, true love and above all blood. From the company behind the multi-award winning, national touring productions of 1984 and Animal Farm comes this new adaptation of Stoker's twisted tale.

MELBOURNE CITY BALLET PRESENTS

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM Melbourne City Ballet presents a magical, neoclassical ballet interpretation of the William Shakespeare classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This Shakespearean adaptation explores three different stories within the border of Athens and Fairyland. Whilst the Amazonian Queen and Athenian King prepare for their wedding, two Athenian couples are caught in an arranged marriage dilemma which is only made worse by the feud of the King and Queen of the Fairies. With a full cast of talented artists, dazzling costumes and beautiful sets, Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo takes audiences on a journey to the borders of Shakespeare’s Athens/Fairyland to experience the magic, mischief and love that is A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

BELL SHAKESPEARE PRESENTS

THE MERCHANT OF VENICE BY W I L L I A M S H A K E S P E A R E D I R E C TO R A N N E - LO U I S E S A R K S Money makes the world go around. Portia has it. Bassanio wants it. Shylock lends it. Antonio owes the value of it. Love also plays a part. Portia offers it. Bassanio wants it. And Antonio may lose a pound of flesh for it. This uncompromising and dark production explores the tense relationship and prejudices between those who have, and those who don’t. Dark in its humour and bawdy in its romantic hijinks, The Merchant Of Venice takes audiences on a journey of love, mercy and justice. Featuring three time Helpmann Award winner, Mitchell Butel (Janet King and Rake) as the defiant Shylock, and Jessica Tovey (Wolf Creek and Wonderland) as Portia, the production is directed by Anne-Louise Sarks (Belvoir’s Jasper Jones and Medea). This masterfully envisioned production tackles the prejudices and preconceived notions of one of Shakespeare’s most challenging plays.
