GOSFORD REGIONAL GALLERY EMERGING 2017

A COMPETITION FOR ARTISTS AGED 18 TO 30 YE ARS First prize $5,000. Up to $9,000 in total prize money. Submission deadline: 3 February 2017.


CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

Submissions are invited from NSW artists, working in any visual art medium, to present a body of work for Gosford Regional Gallery’s Emerging 2017 competition and exhibition. Emerging 2017 showcases the talents of emerging young artists from across New South Wales. Artists must be aged between 18 and 30 to participate. The exhibition gives artists the opportunity to exhibit a series of works or site-specific installation. Selected finalists will form an exhibition at Gosford Regional Gallery from 8 April until 21 May 2017. Submissions must be lodged with Gosford Regional Gallery by 3 February 2017. PRIZES 1. $5,000 First Prize 2. Each of the selected finalists will receive an artist fee of $500 ELIGIBILITY Emerging 2017 is open to all residents of NSW, aged between 18 and 30 as of 8 April 2017. That is, people born on or after 9 April 1986 and on or before 8 April 1999. The competition is not open to employees of Central Coast Council. SIZE OF BODY OF WORK Selected finalists will each be assigned a space within Gosford Regional Gallery of up to 20 metres of wall space or 70 square metres of floor space (or a specified combination of both) to display their body of work. The Gallery has a ceiling height of four metres. Any special requirements regarding space should be addressed in the description of the body of work. S U B M I T T I N G A N A P P L I C AT I O N Applicants should submit a description of their proposed body of work, a CV, supporting visual material and proof of date of birth. Applications must be delivered to Gosford Regional Gallery, 36 Webb St East Gosford on or before 3 February 2017. Applications must be delivered complete, including all supporting material. Applications being delivered by post or courier will be accepted if they are postmarked before the 3 February 2017. A P P L I C AT I O N S M U S T I N C L U D E Description of Proposed Body of Work: a 250 to 500 word written description of your intended body of work including details of concept, construction materials, space requirements and installation. Supporting Visual Material: up to ten clearly labelled images on CD or USB in support of the application. The preferred format is jpg images, less than 1.5MB each. If submitting images on CD, the applicant must clearly indicate which images should be considered for the application. If applicable, a short DVD, no more than five minutes in length may be submitted. Curriculum Vitae: of no more than one page Proof of Date of Birth: e.g. copy of driver’s licence Signed Entry Form SELECTION CRITERIA AND JUDGING The panel of judges from Gosford Regional Gallery will select finalists to participate in the exhibition based on the following: Concept: the proposal is conceptually strong and the body of work is cohesive Technique: the proposal demonstrates the artist’s technical proficiency Presentation: the proposal considers how the Gallery space will be utilised Selected finalists will be announced by 20 February 2017. An external judge will award the Emerging 2017 First Prize to be announced at the opening of the exhibition. I N S TA L L AT I O N Selected finalists will need to liaise with the Gallery Curator regarding the installation requirements, and need to be available to assist with installing their body of work during the installation period (3 April to 7 April 2017). The Curator will determine the positioning of each finalist’s work within the Gallery. Finalists will be responsible for the transport of work to and from the Gallery. Limited money will be available to assist with materials for ephemeral installations. EXHIBITION The exhibition of selected finalists will be on display from 8 April to 21 May 2017. The exhibition opening is 8 April 2017. SALE OF ART WORK All works exhibited can be for sale. Selected finalists will need to provide prices for any work available for sale. Gosford Regional Gallery charges a 35% commission (including GST on commission). I N T E R P R E TAT I O N O F T H E R U L E S A N D C O N D I T I O N S In the event of a dispute arising regarding the rules and conditions of entry, a decision made by the organising committee shall be final. COPYRIGHT Gosford Regional Gallery reserves the right to photograph any work submitted for the purpose of documentation, education and promotion of the Emerging exhibition and competition. All necessary acknowledgements will be duly made.
