10 Reasons

ucation

Ed er h ig H k ic rr a C t a y d u st to 1.

All programs are designed in conjunction with industry

At Carrick Higher Education our degree programs are designed in consultation with industry. This means we are providing graduates with the skills specifically required for the industry and means they have a greater capacity to achieve employment. It is important to us that our programs are formed with clear career paths in mind as we assist students to achieve their goals.

2.

Three key intakes each year

Carrick offers students the option of multiple intakes throughout the year (March, July and November), providing you with more flexibility to commence your studies. Some institutions will make you wait for over half a year to start a course, but here at Carrick we commence our degree programs every four months. If you are an international student you can utilise this time to perfect your English language knowledge at Carrick English Language prior to starting your degree.

3.

Choose one of our four locations

Carrick offers study options at a number of popular Australian locations including Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. You can select to study at one location or transfer between locations so you can study and see the sights at the same time.

4.

Fast-track your degree from start to finish

Carrick Higher Education programs offer a unique trimester year, which allows you to fast-track your studies. Instead of completing two semesters each year (like most universities) you will complete three trimesters. The course that you study is still a high quality course, but means you have slightly less holidays in between – this is because we know you want to complete your studies quickly. The fast-track method means you complete a 3 year degree in only 2 years.

5.

We have over 22 years’ experience in education

Carrick has had a long history in providing educational opportunities to over 30,000 students from around the world. We aim to continue this history by providing quality educational programs across English Language, Vocational and Higher Education.

6.

English and Vocational Pathways

Carrick is a significant education provider in Australia and has a number of other areas of specialisation. These include providing students with access to English Language training and Vocational education. Students that do not meet direct entry requirements into the Bachelor programs can start with Carrick by studying English (to improve their English Language skills) or Vocational education. There are a number of pathways from our Vocational programs that allow students to progress on to Bachelor programs with credit – meaning you can complete your degree even faster.

7.

All our qualifications are highly recognised

Carrick maintains accreditation and industry recognition from many bodies within the English, Vocational and Higher Education sectors and industry, including: • Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) • Department of Education, Training and the Arts (DETA) • Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST) • Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB) • National ELT Accreditation Scheme (NEAS) • Galileo Computer Reservations System • Australian Council for Private Education and Training (ACPET) • Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) • English Australia

Accommodation

Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney Homestay

Living Costs

Carrick Education is proud to associate with the Australian Homestay Network (AHN) for the provision of homestay services for its students.

Students relocating to Australia should keep in mind the relevant costs when they undertake studies. When calculating the cost of living in Australia, students must also budget for food, health care, transport, books, clothing and entertainment. Please note that all costs listed are estimates only and will vary depending on location, lifestyle and inflation.

AHN is Australia’s leading Homestay provider and was recently commended in the Senate Inquiry into the Welfare and Safety of International Students for meeting the appropriate standards in Homestay accommodation. Homestay is a cultural exchange between a local individual or family (called a Host) and a visiting international student. The student lives as a guest in the home. In traditional homestay, students can expect to be provided with their own room, food and space to study. The homestay hosts will assist students to become familiar with the local area and customs in a relaxed and friendly household setting. This is the recommended option for all new students studying in Australia for the first time. Students are encouraged to share information about their home country and culture with their AHN homestay host. After the first 2-4 week minimum stay period there are numerous continuing AHN Homestay options to suit the various students needs. Please refer to the accompanying Homestay Chart for 2010. AHN Homestay helps students to better settle into life in a new country and gain the confidence to build important social networks in Australia.

Students are recommended to allow a minimum of A$15,000 per year to cover their cost of living. It is highly recommended that students arrive with an additional A$2,000 to cover settling in costs such as rental bond and to purchase basic furniture items, if this is not already prepaid during enrolment.

Other costs • Overseas Student Health Cover* – A$354 (one year) • Rental bond – A$1,100 (Adel), A$1,100 (Bris), A$1,200 (Melb), A$1,800 (Syd) per rental • Music concert tickets – A$60 – A$100 • Cinema tickets – A$10 – A$15 • Mobile phone – A$50 per month • Stationery and books – A$500 per year *A ustralian Government Requirement – cost varies according to duration of cover. Prices include goods and services tax (GST). Costs are based on figures at time of printing and are subject to change without notice.
