RPL & Credit Transfer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that allows the competencies applicants already possess to be recognised, regardless of how they obtained them. These might include skills they learnt on the job or from other life experiences that do not necessarily include formal training. Recognition of prior learning suits people who have industry relevant: • Work skills or knowledge • Paid or unpaid work experience • Life experience • Community work experience Recognition of Prior Learning could provide applicants with a full or part qualification, and avoid duplication of training. However, there is cost related to obtaining RPL. The process, also, requires students to gather relevant evidence confirming their competency. It might take some time and should be done prior to the course commencement. If RPL is successful, it may impact on student visa conditions through a shortening of the student’s course.
