Planning, Drafting and Editing in Writing
Sometimes students view writing as a daunting task; however if they are encouraged and motivated to write, the task becomes a more enjoyable one for both the learner and the TEFL teacher.
If students believe there is a purpose to writing, or that their own writing will be read by someone else, then they will become actively involved in their own writing.
Students should be taught that careful thought and planning is essential before they attempt to write a final version of their work.
With clear planning and drafting, students will produce writing which is clear and effective.
As students become actively engaged in their writing, it is helpful to view the task as a process.
This process can be divided into five steps: prewriting, brainstorming ideas, outline, first draft and final draft.
