Synopsis In a war-torn Casablanca, anything can happen when two lovers reunite, in this short spoof of the classic film‌
Karen Goldfarb WRITER/DIRECTOR/PRODUCER
I grew up in the wilds of suburban New Jersey, loving theatre and all things film. Early on, I knew what I was. I was – a Cinephiliac. There were hours spent watching old movies. On the Million Dollar Movie, which aired every day at 4:30, I found what I loved – Gypsy and Gigi and Splendor in the Grass. Gone With the Wind was the first movie at which I cried. When I lived in Paris, I studied Cinema and I fell in love – with Godard and Truffaut and the French New Wave. And of course, I learned to smoke Gauloises. . As a journalist working for Reuters, I had the great fortune to interview such cinematic luminaries as Krzystof Kieslowski, JeanJacques Annaud, Andrei Konchalovsky, and Marcel Ophuls. I was drawn to interviewing them – yes, because I loved their films – but also I wanted to know how they did what they did. I had a secret dream – I wanted to be one of them. I wanted to be a director. Finally, last summer, I took my short script, “Here’s Lookin’ at You, Kid”, which had won a screenplay contest, and decided to take the plunge. I was going to make a movie, no matter what. Now I am at Cannes…
Director’s Statement As a first time director, making Here’s Lookin’ at You, Kid was an arduous, but exciting journey. My wonderful cast and crew made the magic happen.
