TDC TEAMS UP WITH REGIONAL TOURISM EXPERTS FOR THE ‘TOURISM IS MY BUSINESS’ SYMPOSIUM A dynamic group of tourism experts from around the region joined the TDC, through the Caribbean Small Tourism Enterprises Project (STEP) to host the People, Productivity and Sustainability Symposium entitled “Tourism is My Business” at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad on Wednesday July 27. Tourism professionals from The Bahamas, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago shared their knowledge and expertise with over 188 small tourism operators on a variety of tourism-related topics, all in an effort to increase awareness among tourism entrepreneurs about the linkages that exist between the various players in the tourism sector and the successes that can be derived if activities are harnessed in a sustainable manner.

Through a combination of lectures and panel discussions, the speakers reinforced the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation through the creation of a people-centric tourism environment that caters to the needs of both domestic and international visitors. In attendance at the event were the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Tourism; Mrs. Vidiah Ramkhelawan, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism; Mrs. Cheryl Ann Solomon, Administrator, Division of Tourism and Transportation, Tobago House of Assembly; Mr. Brian D. Frontin, Chief Executive Officer, Trinidad Hotels Restaurants and Tourism Association; and Mr. Warren Solomon, Acting Chief Executive Officer at the TDC.

TDC CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL CRUISE SEASON Tourism Minister Shamfa Cudjoe joined key stakeholders in the Trinidad and Tobago tourism industry to celebrate the end of a successful 2015-2016 cruise season with the hosting of an assessment session and award ceremony at the Cruise Ship Complex in Port-of-Spain on Wednesday 29 June, 2016. Minister Cudjoe applauded the hardworking members of the cruise team at the TDC for their dedication and commitment to the development of the Trinidad and Tobago tourism product. Minister Cudjoe said, “For the 2015-2016 cruise season, Trinidad received 30,493 cruise arrivals from 25 cruiseships while Tobago received 70,298 cruise passengers from 60 – a total of 100,791 to

the destination which represents an increase of 115 per cent over the cruise season of the previous year.” Cruise Ship Marketing Specialist, Greer Assam reported that the 2015-2016 season was a “crime free experience” for cruise passengers and crew. She credited this to the strong relationship between the TDC, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the Port Police and the City Police. Following on the heels of the 2015-2016 season, stakeholders are working aggressively to ensure the success of the upcoming season as they work towards the goal of 150,000 cruise passengers by 2020.
