A TEAM OF CHAMPIONS There’s a reason Goucher Equestrian is known as the premier collegiate riding team in Maryland and throughout the United States. We win. Consistent champions in Zone IV, Region 1, we also regularly finish in the top 10 at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) national competition. Our program’s winning tradition is built on trust, respect, and love of the sport. Our team members encourage one another to reach their personal best—inside and outside the ring. Goucher boasts one of the only co-ed programs in the nation with facilities on campus. With one of the shortest dorm-to-stall distances in the entire country, our team gets plenty of practice time. Practice brings excellence, and that’s one of our core values.

Under Zumbrun’s leadership from 1978 to 2013, the team won countless IHSA regional titles and one Zone IV Championship. It also placed at
nationals three times. In 2015, IHSA presented Zumbrun the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to collegiate riding and educational programs. Current Equestrian Director Jen Bunty has continued the tradition of excellence. Under her leadership, the team earned Zone IV Region I and Zone IV Championships in 2014 and 2015. The team went on to win sixth place in 2014 and seventh place in 2015 at the National Championships. It’s the beginning of a new era.

SECURING THE FUTURE Goucher’s equestrian team needs facilities that match its esteemed record. A new equestrian center will enable our team to continue its winning tradition and will be well-suited to host workshops, conferences, and collegiate competitions. These facilities will be available for external use and will expand Goucher’s community partnerships.

THE BARN
A new, 32-stall barn will be built, doubling our stall space and allowing Goucher to house students’ horses on campus. We’ll create a classroom space for the formal study of equine science, and we’ll also enlarge the tackroom and build a trophy room. Upholding Goucher’s leadership in environmental sustainability, we’re investigating solar panels as an energyefficient power source.

INDOOR AND OUTDOOR RINGS Our expanded riding rings will be show-ready, offering a host of new features: both enclosed and open viewing areas, an enclosed observation room, an additional classroom and trophy room, a pavilion, and a participant holding area. Observers also will find both comfort and convenience in our new spectator viewing area.

Goucher’s 287-acre campus offers miles of wooded trails and acres of fields. We’ll complement our substantial green space with additional turnout areas, all designed to optimize practice, recovery, and grazing time for our horses.
