Community matters A NEW VISION FOR CAMPUS LIFE

Let’s bring people together. A meaningful residential experience greatly affects a student’s chances for success, both at Goucher and beyond. We want to bring our community together in new ways and add a whole new level of learning to a student’s time at Goucher. That’s why we developed a new plan for campus dining and residential life. We’ve got some big ideas. We want to infuse learning into every part of life at Goucher. We want to create more faculty housing options on campus, as well as more spaces for programming and community building. We also recognize the value of a shared meal in bringing people together. However, our current dining locations don’t match how students live. We will create a large dining hall at the Pearlstone Student Center, offering something for everyone: à la carte, the all-youcan-eat meal block, kosher, vegetarian, and vegan options.

It takes a village. We know students flourish most when offered age-appropriate housing options. Traditional residence halls with shared bathrooms make first-year students get out of their rooms, meet new people, and begin building friendships to last a lifetime. Gradually increased privacy and autonomy for upper-division students helps prepare them for life after graduation. Where the Froelicher complex stands, we will create a first-year village offering 475 beds in a traditional residence-hall setting, close to the Decker Sports & Recreation Center and the heart of campus. At Stimson’s location on the edge of campus, we will create an upper-division village with 425 new non-traditional beds, including options such as semi-suites with semi-private bathrooms, suites including a living room, or apartments that include a small kitchen. All of this will open the sight lines up to the Decker Sports & Recreation Center, as well as create important outdoor community spaces. Such spaces have always played an important role on Goucher’s campus since it was built.

You can make it happen. President José Antonio Bowen has brought a bold vision to Goucher. We’ve always been leaders in innovation. Now we seek to honor that legacy by revitalizing our residential offerings to allow for a truly transformative living-learning experience. But we need your support. The best part? We’re still early enough in the planning stages that you can play a real role in shaping the liberal arts experience for generations of Goucher students to come.

Get inspired and join our future.
