GouldAcademy
An exclusive program for seventh, eighth, and ninth grade skateboarders who attend other schools, Skate School gives student skateboarders the opportunity to experience some of the best that Gould Academy has to offer. Students benefit from daily skateboarding, video analysis, and road trips. Skate School students ride with Gould’s varsity skateboard team under the direction of two dedicated team managers. Facilities include an on-campus indoor skatepark, a 9,000 square-foot concrete skatepark within blocks, and Rye Airfield just a few hours away. Students do an epic weekend road trip to Rye Airfield and beyond. Gould’s academic program is built around skating time and supports student work from each student’s home school through a comprehensive tutorial program.

Skate School academics support a strong seventh, eighth, and ninth grade curriculum from the student’s home school. The Skate School tutors work with students individually through their math, science, history, and English assignments from their home school to provide the most seamless entry and exit from the three-week Skate School experience. Students also get their hands dirty and challenge their creativity in Gould’s arts program. Skate School students reside on campus in Vogt House and Costello House, the program-devoted dorms, and are involved in Gould’s tight-knit community. Students attend Morning Assembly daily and Formal Dinner every Tuesday night. Community building is critical to the learning environment at Gould Academy, and we make sure that our Skate School students are at the heart of the Gould experience.
Skate School is a great way for students to discover everything that Gould Academy has to offer, while training in a sport they love. Learning doesn’t just take place in the classroom or in the dormitory or at the skatepark. The connections between each aspect of a student’s experience are what make the Gould difference. The Gould Academy Skate School runs April 14 - 26, 2013. For more information, visit skateschool.gouldacademy.org or contact
Dave Bean, program director, at 207-890-4022. Applications are evaluated immediately. On-campus interviews are encouraged. The program is limited to nine boys and three girls. For more information on Gould Academy, visit www.gouldacademy.org.
