Accenture Recognized by U.S. State Department for Small Business Inclusion ARLINGTON, VA – The U.S. State Department has recognized Accenture Federal Services for exceeding its small business goals on State Department contracts.

The Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business presented Accenture with the Prime Contractor Small Business Subcontracting Award, recognizing that Accenture had targeted 55 percent of its subcontract dollars going to small businesses; it actually delivered 80.9 percent for fiscal year 2012.

“Small businesses make for outstanding teammates,” said Amy Tener, who leads Accenture’s work with the State Department. “Accenture’s commitment to inclusion and diversity goes beyond our hiring and workplace practices; it also shapes how we work with suppliers and subcontractors. A diverse group of suppliers enables us to deliver strong outcomes for our federal customers.”

Accenture formalized its supplier diversity program more than a decade ago, and is a corporate member of the National Minority Supplier Development Council; the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council; the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce; and the National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms.

SBA Amends Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) And Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program Policy Directives January 27, 2014

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has amended its Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program Policy Directives in response to public comments and input from all parties involved in the program. These amendments - - published on January 8, 2014 in the Federal Register - - can be found and reviewed at: https://federalregister.gov/a/2013-31374 for SBIR, and https://federalregister.gov/a/2013-31376 for STTR. The SBIR Program Policy Directive makes several key changes to the SBIR Program relating to eligibility, the SBIR award process, SBIR Program administration, and fraud, waste and abuse.

The changes to the STTR Program Policy Directive have been made to maintain concordance with the SBIR program. SBA also made several minor clarifying changes to ensure that the participants in both programs clearly understand certain program requirements.

On December 31, 2011, the President signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012. That Act contained the SBIR/STTR Reauthorization Act of 2011, which amended the Small Business Act and made several amendments to the SBIR and STTR programs and required SBA to issue amendments to the Policy Directives and publish the amendment in the Federal Register. SBA did so on August 6, 2012.

SBA sought public comments on the final Directives, and stated that it may amend the Directives in response to these comments at a later time. This resulted in the January 2014 changes.

CACI Awarded Prime Position on $497 Million Contract to Provide Communications and Networking Services to U.S. Army February 24, 2014

ARLINGTON, Va. – CACI International Inc announced today that it has been selected as a prime contractor to provide communications and network services to the U.S. Army’s CommunicationsElectronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC) Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate (S&TCD). CACI received this five-year (three base plus two options) multiple-award indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract in the second quarter of its fiscal year 2014, ending December 31, 2013. The contract has a ceiling value of $497 million, represents new work, and expands CACI’s presence in its high-volume C4ISR (command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) market area.

CERDEC develops and integrates C4ISR technologies that enable information dominance and decisive lethality for the networked troops. The Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate (S&TCD), part of the CERDEC, provides secure wireless military communications and networking technologies by assuring connectivity over longer ranges and diverse terrain while in motion, boosting capacity to meet the increasing demands to the tactical edge and ensuring cyber security across the enterprise.

Under the terms of the contract, CACI will provide research, development and evaluation in support of communications and networks systems under the five S&TCD Division technology areas including antennas, system engineering, satellite communication, cybersecurity, and communications networks. Raytheon

Raytheon Awarded $123 Million Phalanx Contract from Republic of Korea Systems to go aboard FFX-, AOE II-class ships February 24, 2014

TUCSON, Ariz. – Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) signed a $123 million contract to deliver nine Phalanx Block 1B Close-In Weapon Systems to the Republic of Korea Navy.

Under the direct commercial sale, the largest ever for the Phalanx program, Raytheon will deliver the Phalanx systems for installation aboard the FFX Batch II frigate-class ships and AOE IIclass fast combat support ships.

Deliveries will begin in 2016 and are scheduled to be completed in 2022. The contract was signed during the fourth quarter 2013.

"Phalanx provides the vital protective capabilities needed for the Republic of Korea Navy to achieve its maritime mission requirements in the littorals and high seas in which it operates," said Rick Nelson, vice president of Raytheon's Naval and Area Mission Defense product line. "Phalanx counters sophisticated subsonic and supersonic anti-ship missiles while increasing the outer perimeter for ship self-defense."

Lockheed Martin Receives $92 Million U.S. Army Apache Targeting and Pilotage System Sustainment Contract February 20, 2014

ORLANDO, Fla. – Lockheed Martin received a $92 million Performance Based Logistics (PBL) contract in December 2013 from the U.S. Army for sustainment of the AH-64 Apache helicopter Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) system.

The firm, fixed-price contract is the foundation for a comprehensive sustainment solution that enables M-TADS/PNVS mission readiness, reduces operation and support costs, and drives reliability and maintainability improvements. This is the second of three one-year options that support the initial $111 million PBL contract awarded in 2012. The total four-year contract value is $375 million.

“The M-TADS/PNVS PBL program provides critical sustainment support to Apache pilots conducting missions around the world every day,” said Mike Taylor, program director of MTADS/PNVS international and support programs at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.

M-TADS/PNVS provides Apache helicopter pilots long-range, precision engagement and pilotage capabilities for mission success and flight safety day or night, or in adverse weather conditions. Forward-looking infrared sensors provide enhanced image resolution that enables Apache aircrews to prosecute targets and provide situational awareness in support of ground troops outside detection ranges. Lockheed Martin has delivered more than 1,200 MTADS/PNVS systems to the U.S. Army and international customers.

The Apache M-TADS/PNVS PBL program provides efficiencies in supply chain management and critical sustainment support worldwide. During its peak operational tempo of more than 200,000 flying hours, the M-TADS/PNVS PBL program averaged a worldwide supply availability rate of 98 percent.

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works Awarded $21 Million Contract for Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Cutter Program February 14, 2014

BATH, Maine – The U.S. Coast Guard has awarded General Dynamics Bath Iron Works a $21.4 million contract for the Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) program. Bath Iron Works is one of three shipyards chosen from a field of eight competitors to proceed to Phase I design work on this next-generation cutter program.

The Bath Iron Works team includes L3 Communications (New York, N.Y.) and Navantia, S.A. (Spain), a shipbuilder that Bath Iron Works has collaborated with for more than 30 years.

Bath Iron Works president Fred Harris said the Coast Guard design contract was an important development as the shipyard seeks to expand its customer base and maintain its design and manufacturing workload.

“Our experienced engineering and design team will now focus on developing a preliminary OPC design that meets or exceeds our customer’s requirements,” said Harris. “We will also continue our yard-wide actions to ensure we can build these ships affordably, safely and on – or ahead of – schedule.”

At the end of the 18-month Phase I period, the Coast Guard will select one team to develop Phase II detail design and build the first nine to 11 ships of a planned 25-ship class.

The OPC is a next-generation ship which will replace the Coast Guard’s aging fleet of Medium Endurance Cutters, complementing the current and future fleet and extending the service’s operational capabilities.

ExxonMobil Announces First Production From Damar Gas Development  Field peak capacity forecasted at 200 million cubic feet of gas per day  Onshore fabrication completed in less than a year February 13, 2014

IRVING, Texas – Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) today announced the start of natural gas production at the Damar field off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

ExxonMobil subsidiary, ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc., has a 50 percent interest in the project.

The Damar field has a projected capacity of 200 million cubic feet of gas per day. ExxonMobil and joint-venture partner Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. have planned a total of 16 development wells for the platform.

“Damar will help meet increasing natural gas demand in Malaysia,” said Neil W. Duffin, president of ExxonMobil Development Company. “It also represents one of several projects that will add to ExxonMobil’s global production in the coming years as we remain focused on delivering profitable volumes over the long term.”

Damar was developed under a gas production sharing contract between ExxonMobil, Petronas Carigali and Petronas. ExxonMobil is the operator of the Damar field and Petronas Carigali holds a 50 percent interest.

The Damar startup follows the previously announced Telok gas development in Malaysia, which began production in March 2013. The projects provide additional gas supplies to help meet Malaysia's power and industrial needs and promote growth of the country’s natural gas industry.

KBR Awarded Design Contract for Large Heavy Lift Semisubmersible Vessel February 4, 2014

Houston, Texas — KBR (NYSE: KBR), announced today it has been awarded a contract for the basic design development for Heerema Offshore Services’ large new semisubmersible crane vessel (NSCV) through its subsidiary GVA. A member of KBR’s Hydrocarbons Business Group, GVA completed seven months of feasibility and conceptual studies on the NSCV in 2013.

The basic design phase of the new vessel will cover the major part of 2014.

Expected revenue from the contract will be included in the 2013 fourth quarter backlog of unfilled orders for the Hydrocarbons segment.

“Heerema’s selection of GVA as a partner in their development of this new heavy lift vessel demonstrates confidence in GVA’s capability, experience and skills for such a challenging and strategically important project,” said Roy Oelking, KBR Hydrocarbons Group President. “We see this as the start of a long-lasting partnership between Heerema and GVA, and are committed to supporting Heerema on future development projects.”

Designed for operations worldwide, the self-propelled vessel will meet Heerema’s priority requirements for maximized transit speed. The vessel will be approximately 200 meters long by 97 meters wide and will have a lifting capacity of 2 x 10,000 metric tons.

Additionally, the NSCV hull configuration will feature a large deckbox on an eight-column structure mounted on two pontoons. The vessel design will meet the highest health and safety standards with minimal environmental impact during fabrication and operation, Oelking said.

Water, Energy, Technology & Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2014 April 13 - 15, 2014: Dubai, India The 15th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2013 hosted 1,360 exhibitors from 32 countries and approximately 15,800 visitors. The largest regional event of its kind, it aims to attract over 1,500 exhibitors from 40 countries in 2014.

The building adopts conservation criteria for electricity and water, and uses solar energy to supply electricity.

The new building has achieved a huge success as the largest government sustainable building to win the Platinum Award for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) achieving 98 points out of 110 as per US Green Building Council's evaluation.

Getting to Atlanta via Airplane: Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (ATL) is 10 miles from downtown Atlanta, and is one of the busiest airports in the country, so it’s safe bet that you can get a flight to meet your needs. But you should also plan accordingly, allowing yourself wiggle room when you fly in and fly out of Hartsfield in case of airport or weather related delays.

Ground Transportation: Taxi rates from the airport to downtown run approximately $30 as a standard flat rate.

Standard taxi rates run approximately $2.50 for the first 1/8 mile, and 25 cents for each 1/8-mile thereafter so it adds up fast. Of course Atlanta is a large spread out city so be aware that travel and traffic times need to be factored into this.

Though there is just over half a million people living in Atlanta proper, there are nearly six million people in the greater region.

Getting around the City: Atlanta is a big city, but driving is the best idea, in spite of the occasionally congested freeways. The first thing to learn is OTP or ITP. These Atlanta related slang terms translate to "outside the Perimeter" and "inside the Perimeter." The Perimeter, also known as Interstate 285, circles the city of Atlanta. Be specific by adding the phrase "top end," meaning the section of the Perimeter above I-20, or the phrase "bottom end," referring to anything below I-20. Some newcomers have a hard time realizing if you travel on I-285 you will eventually wind up where you started, and no one wants that.

Public transportation is also quite easy and MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) is the most popular transportation system being simple for both bus and train riders. Look for the striped signs in blue, orange, and gold, which are identified as MARTA stations, stops, and vehicles. For those who ride the MARTA bus, the names and route numbers are displayed above the vehicle’s windshield.

For train riders, there are signs that direct them to the trains and give directions to platforms for boarding. There are courtesy telephones, MARTA police, and, customer service staff that can help you if you need require assistance. The Breeze card costs $1, then amounts are loaded onto it.

Weather: Spring in Atlanta is mild with temperatures from the mid-70s to the low 80s as it nears summer, but March is the wettest month, so have an umbrella handy. During the summer months, the temperatures fluctuate within the 80’s but July is the warmest month of the year in the 90s. But it’s the famous humidity that takes some getting used to!

Fall means foliage and the leaves begin to change. October is the least rainy month of the year so outdoor activities are always possible and the weather stays in the upper 60s. Winter in Atlanta can actually mean snowfall, typically less than 2 inches and it doesn’t stay on the ground for very long. Daytime highs range from the mid to upper 50’s, and nighttime temperatures drop into the low to mid 30’s.

Off the Clock: The Sanctuary Located in trendy Buckhead, this is the place if you love dancing but salsa dancing in particular.

Fridays are salsa nights with lessons starting at 9 p.m., so if you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced this is a comfortable place to dance. Most of the people there are regulars, so it’s a friendly dance club. Drinks are not allowed on the dance floor, there is plenty of seating if you want to take a break and it’s smoke-free! Entry is free before 10 p.m. and there is free and accessible parking in their private lot.

World of Coca-Cola Since Atlanta is considered the birthplace of Coke, the World of Coca-Cola is a must stop to understand the history of the world's most famous soft drink. The tour features a fullyfunctioning bottling line that produces an 8 oz. glass bottles of Coke for each guest. There are over 1,200 never-before-displayed artifacts ranging from vintage bottles to a 1939 delivery truck from Argentina, even a 4-D movie experience, "In Search of the Secret Formula.” Taste It! Is where you will sample over 60 different flavors of the classic beverage from around the world and then try to match the original by mixing your own concoction in the Vault of the Secret Formula. And you can have your photo taken with the Coke polar bear just to prove you were here! Admission is $16.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic Site Encompassing 35 acres, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Historic Site is comprised of landmarks as well as modern-day monuments and facilities. This is a journey through the historical struggles of the South and life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. You can visit Dr. King's original gravesite and current tomb, tour his boyhood home, Ebenezer Baptist Church, and the historic Fire Station No. 6 - one of the South's first desegregated fire houses. There is also the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame, and it’s all free.

Dining in Atlanta: Recommendations for Business Meetings Fox Brothers : Fox Brothers has been voted as the best BBQ in Atlanta by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. All their meats are cooked low and slow over hickory, including baby back ribs, pulled pork and brisket. Atlanta has no shortages of excellent local BBQ places, some looking less than appealing from the outside, however the food is what you’d expect from great Southern BBQ. Located in Buckhead this is nothing fancy looking but it is mouth watering.

Quick Eats on a Budget Just Around the Corner: This spot is, well, just around the corner from the World Congress Center and is tiny but quick. Less than 10 bucks for a good burger, seasoned fries, and a drink with free refills, now that’s a deal. The tables and chairs under the red awning are a great place to people watch. The sign says "The Best Burger in Town" and it may not be the best but it’s pretty darn good.
