While Clearwater contains no shortage of outdoor activities, it certainly leads the competition for baseball and soccer.

Home to the Clearwater Threshers, Spectrum Field offers visitors a major league baseball experience without the big-league prices. The Class A Advanced affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, the Clearwater Threshers play a full schedule at Spectrum Field as competitors in the Florida State League. Spectrum Park is a fan’s dream facility for catching a game, with a capacity of 8,500 plus a 360-degree main concourse, both of which put all fans within arm’s reach of the action.

Plus, the stadium is home to the Philadelphia Phillies throughout Spring Training, meaning visitors can get up close and personal with some of their favorite players. In addition to watching the game, guests also can enjoy the group picnic areas and children’s play area (check out the special children’s concession stand, “Shortstop Snacks”). Watch for special appearances of Phinley, the Clearwater Threshers mascot, and the Phanatic, the mascot of the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Tampa Bay Rays are the major league’s member of the American League East division and play at Tropicana Field in St. Pete.

HIT THE FIELD

Clearwater also is well-known as a top soccer destination, given it hosts Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union and DC United for preseason training each year during January and February. In addition to training camp, both MLS teams also participate in preseason tournaments and exhibition games as well as host special events like a youth soccer camp and fan days. Also, don’t miss the Tampa Bay Rowdies, a National American Soccer League, with games in St. Pete. These are fun ways to see some of your favorite players in a more intimate and relaxed environment without spending a bundle.
