What’s New in H&K Success in Sports: An Online Elective Do You Still Need an Elective For The Summer? If So, Success in Sports May Be Your Class!! As many of you ponder your schedules for the Summer 2011 academic semester, you may be needing or wanting to take one more additional class. PYED 4356.60: Success in Sports is an online class that I teach and it will be offered Summer 2011. This class is limited to just 30 students and promises to be an exciting way to learn about how the environment, genetics, home field advantage, performance

enhancing drugs, etc impact many of the sports and activities that you love to watch and/or participate in. Although there is no textbook for the class, there are readings provided by me to enhance each of the 13 online sessions. Past students have really enjoyed the class for its content, its organization and its ability to engage the student in a

positive way to promote real learning. Make sure you ask your advisor to include this course on your degree plan and share this class with your friends in other majors! You don’t have to be a Health and Kinesiology student to take the class, you only need to have a love for sports! I hope to see you in the class this Summer. Dr. Marzilli

Message From the Chair of Health and Kinesiology

Dr. Scott Marzilli This Spring Commencement will mark the largest graduating class in the Department of Health and Kinesiology’s History. With over 60 undergraduate students and 15 graduate students, this graduating class is not only our largest, but for me, it provides the most memories...

I am just in amazement of how fast the last two years have flown by. I say two years, because this is the first graduating class that has utilized the degree programs that were modified during the 2008/2009 academic year; the year that I became Chair. With Faculty support, the BS Health Studies, BS Kinesiology, BS KinesiologyAthletic Training, MS Kinesiology and MS Health Sciences were all changed and/or developed to better prepare students for success in the 21st Century. Whether it’s seeing you all walk up and down the halls of the HPC, seeing you in your classes, or seeing you out and about in Tyler, you all make me very proud to be the Chair of this AWESOME Department.

Just as you will continue to grow and continue to make us all proud, I hope you will trust in the Department to continue to grow and make you proud. As you will always be a part of us, The Department of Health and Kinesiology will ALWAYS be a part of you. We will always be here for you! We will always just be a phone call away! As you move on with your lives, please know that YOU did this! It is because of YOU that we celebrate on May 13th, and it is because of you, that I LOVE MY JOB! I will miss every one of you! Be sure to come to the BBQ on Friday between 11-1 at the HPC pool. I’ll be there cooking BBQ’d Chicken with the Faculty!

Tip of the Month For the graduating Seniors and Graduate Students-savor each and every moment from here to May 13th, 2011. I still think fondly of my friends and teachers from Cal Poly and Florida State. I can still remember the time I spent with my family during each of the graduations. Friends and Family that are no longer here with me physically, will always be a part of my memories of graduation! Make these last few days count!! Dr. Marzilli
