By Jessica Quas Batelli surpassed the 200 plateau in career points when she scored five goals and added four assist in the opening round of the NJSIAA state playoffs, raising her totals to 160 goals and 42 assists. Netting 39 goals and distributing 13 assists, she spurred the Thunderbirds to the program’s best start when they reeled off nine straight wins. She will continue her academic/athletic career at Fairfield University (CT) where the Lady Stags operate a club team.
By Jessica Quas Rabin carded an 18-hole par round of 70 over the 5,751-yard course at the Valley Brook Golf Club in River Vale to not only win the individual title of Division 2 but also posted the lowest score overall in the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference tournament. An honors student in geometry, the 5-10 Rabin, who is not finished growing, is already long off the tee to highlight his overall game.

Head Coach Frank Servideo and his Golden Bears ran off an 18-game winning streak this year that culminated in his 500th victory.
Servideo Registers 500th Victory By Edward Kensik LYNDHURST — It didn’t appear that one of the top marks in Bergen County was going to be reached this season. The Lyndhurst High School baseball team graduated a slew of seniors from a team that went 21-8 in 2012. While all coaches are optimistic, Golden Bears head coach Frank “Butch” Servideo was subdued especially with most of his varsity starters graduating including three of his top pitchers. And the thought of a big season was thrown more cold water on it after starting 1-2 including losing 22-14 to Dwight-Englewood in the season opener. While the goal every year for a Lyndhurst baseball program, that has a history of success, is league and state titles, Servideo needed 19 wins to reach the 500th win plateau. And after his team started 1-2 on the season, he never thought that he would whiff that mark that only a handful of Bergen County coaches have reached. “When we got off to that start, I said no way,” said Servideo about reaching the historic win total. won 18 games in a row including collecting his 500th victory on May 11. And the win came on one of the team’s annual traditions, the Mother’s Day Eve game that honors the team’s players moms and this year it was a 30 victory over Bogota at Lyndhurst Rec Field. But what might have helped Servideo and his team go on an 18-game winning streak were some of the players from the 2012 team that came back to watch the 2013 edition. “We had a couple players come back from last year’s team and they were saying that they stunk (2013) team,” said Servideo. “This team (2013) wanted to prove them wrong. They started jelling and had a chip on their shoulder.” The likes of the Golden Bears players, Max Hart, Austin Meeney, Marcus Brandon, Sergio Turelli, Frank DeLeva, Michael Perry and Bobby DeMarco helped to turn the season around. And his team was doing what Servideo likes from his team. “One of things that we have to do is the little things,” said Servideo. “If you can’t do it, you can’t win.” And one of those little things is one of the most dramatic play in baseball. “I love the suicide squeeze,” said the Lyndhurst
head coach. “One my mottos is if you can’t bunt you can’t win.” Ironically, the next day, May 12, after the 500th win, Servideo faced another 500-plus head coach in Emerson’s Bob Carcich. Unfortunately for Lyndhurst and Servideo, he could not pick up his 501st and more importantly the fifth-seeded Golden Bears were knocked out of the Bergen County Tournament, falling 2-0 to the 12thseeded Cavos. It was Emerson that was the last loss before the streak and they broke the winning streak. And it was like Servideo said, a pitcher, Cavos’ Bob Fisco who did in Lyndhurst, in the county game. In tournaments like Bergen County or state, the Lyndhurst head coach said that all a team that you are facing needs is an ace to shut down your offense. Over his years as head coach, Servideo would face one of those aces somewhere down the line in the state playoffs. “All you need to do is face the other team’s number one pitcher,” said Servideo. “A team could have six wins and four came from one pitcher.” And despite all the success that Lyndhurst and Servideo has had, he has only been able to collect one state sectional and one group 1 state title that came in 2008. The 2008 state title was the first time that a

Lyndhurst team won even a state sectional title since 1984. For one of his coaches, Jeff Radigan, he is just an example of the effect of Servideo on his players and coaches. Radigan has learned so much from Servideo and believes he can reach 600 victories. “I was honored when coach Servideo asked me to coach 13 years ago,” said Radigan. “I have learned so much in the time spent with him. He is someone that truly would give his shirt off his back for you. He is a genuine guy and no one else deserves it more than him. Let’s go get 600.” It was only four years ago, 2009, when the Lyndhurst head coach had picked up his 400th win. For Servideo the 2013 season is his 28th as the Lyndhurst baseball head coach. He actually started as a head coach for the Lady Golden Bears softball helm where he coached for six seasons including leading Lyndhurst to its best seasons in the sport at that time. And the Lyndhurst head coach definitely believes there is a difference between coaching girls and boys. “The girls were a sponge and absorb everything you taught them,” said Servideo. “The boys know everything.” And Servideo and Lyndhurst hope that it won’t be 24 years between state sectional titles. The Golden Bears are the top seed in the upcoming Group 2 North 2 as the state playoffs that started at the end of May.

Maroons Extend BCT Titles to 9 Straight By Cara Sagala With midfielders Jordan Ford and Darby Kiernan netting four goals apiece, Ridgewood defeated Immaculate Heart Academy 11-8 in the championship contest of the Bergen County Girls Lacrosse Tournament as the Lady Maroons captured their ninth straight championship banner. With six minutes remaining in the first half, the game was halted for one hour and 13 minutes because of a lightning storm. The Ridgewood-IHA matchup was the sixth straight BCT championship final. Senior goalie Zoe Ferguson was credited with eight saves as the defensive backfield saved the second half for the Lady Maroons who received two goals each from Lauren Beausoleil and Anna Jorgensen with Kelly McBrearty producing a goal and two assists. and three assists, and Erin Murphy, who added four goals and two assists, provided Indian Hills with a balanced attack. Wit six players netting two or more goals in Ridgewood’s 23-3 trouncing of Fair Lawn, the Lady Maroons also presented a powerful “team” lineup. IHA led 6-1 at the intermission in defeating Northern Highlands 13-8 as Schwitter and McMahon tallied four goals apiece with McMahon adding three assists. Carti of Indian Hills and Danielle Stephens of the Academy of the Holy Angels were the top scorers in the pre-quarterfinals, with both netting eight goals. Carti contributed five assist while Stephens dished off two assists and her teammate Sheila Hill scored twice and distributed seven assists as the Angels routed Northern Valley/Demarest 14-5. Batelli tallied six goals and dished off two assists for Mahwah in a 16-4 romp over Dwight-Englewood while IHA’s Schwitter also scored six times and was credited with a pair of assists in a 19-5 victory over Waldwick. Seniors Max Allen and Brady Wulster combined for seven goals in powering Don Bosco Prep to a 10-6 victory over top-seeded Bergen Catholic in the championship game of the Bergen County Boys County Boys Lacrosse Tournament title. The Ironmen became the first team in boys’ county tournament history to repeat as champions. Allen netted four goals and Wulster deposited three balls into the Crusaders’ cage in addition to distributing a pair of assists. DBP trailed 4-3 at the halftime break before going on a 5-1 tear in the third period. Riley O’Sullivan chipped in with a goal and assist while Nick Buchanan and Max Troast contributed solo goals. Buchanan was top gun in the Ironmen’s 11-5 victory over Ridgewood in the semifi nals, netting three goals and dishing off an assist while O’Sullivan produced a hat trick effort, scoring three times, with Allen and Wulster adding two goals each. BCT Softball Final Four in Place By Jessica Quas Three schools with the first name starting in “I” have reached the final four of the Bergen County Girls Softball Tournament with the semifi nals set for Saturday, May 25 on the campus of Indian Hills High School in Oakland. Freshman Sarah Piening scattered three singles and struck out eight in hurling Immaculate Conception/Lodi to a 5-0 win over Far Lawn. Erin Stacevicz and Shannon Truppi knocked in two runs apiece to propel the Blue Wolves into the semifinals for the first time. Steph Thomas continued to excel for Immaculate Heart Academy, hurling a two-hit shutout and whiffing eight as the Blue Eagles ousted Ramsey 8-0. Nataline Keller and Cassidy Trause plated two runs each with Danielle Ibarra going 3 for 4 with two doubles and scoring twice. Junior Devin Durando threw a five-hitter, striking out 10 as Maddie Levine delivered an RBI double when Indian Hills defeated Ramapo 3-1. Mahwah eliminated Midland Park 5-1 as Anna Nielsen drove in a pair of runs and Danielle Iocovo was the winning pitcher. There were three homers hit in the pre-quarterfi nals, but only Indian Hills’

Rob Kaminsky shattered the 50-year old record of 56 strikeouts in Bergen County Baseball Tournament history by raising his tourney total to 67 when he fanned a dozen Norsemen in tossing a two-hit 10-0 win in a game halted after five innings by the 10-run mercy rule. He re-wrote the old record set by Dwight Morrow’s Jack Grasing between 1962 and 1963. Junior DH Harris Osterman delivered a two-run single in the first inning when NV/Old Tappan surged to a 40 lead in defeating Emerson 6-2. River Dell snapped a 2-2 tie in the seventh when Brendan Martinez drew a base on balls to force in junior second baseman Brett Lubben with the game-winning tally. Rex MacMillan struck out 11 while scattering seven hits as he hurled Rutherford to a 6-2 victory over Ridgewood.
Emerson’s Joe Fisco was the MVP of the pre-quarterfi nal round. He threw a three-hit shutout, fanning eight as the 12th-seeded Cavaliers ousted fifth-seeded Lyndhurst by a score of 2-0. At the plate, Fisco legged out an RBI triple and scored the other run on an infield out. Cutters Cruise to BCT Crown By Sara Jamshidi Top-seeded Fair Lawn coasted to a 2-0 victory over Don Bosco Prep in the championship final of the 12th Annual Bergen County Boys Volleyball Tournament. It was the fourth BCT title for the Cutters in five years who have appeared in every championship game since the tourney began in 2002. The Cutters lost to the Ironmen in the 2012 championship match. Fair Lawn improved to 31-6 by winning games of 25-19 and 25-18. Setter Andrew Small directed the attack, distributing a match-high 24 assists while Chris Nugent spiked nine kills and Charles Gigante scooped up 13 digs. Nugent slammed 13 kills in the Cutters 2-0 victory over Teaneck in the semifinals when
they posted wins of 25-17 and 25-8. DBP knocked off Bergen Catholic 2-0 in the other bracket, winning games of 25-11 and 25-22 with Tommy Lynch distributed 18 assists. In a regular season match, Fair Lawn routed Passaic 2-0, winning by scores of 25-2 and 25-21 as Brayan Rivillas dished off nine assists, scooped up three digs and was credited with four service points. Anyelo Almonte spiked four kills, recorded two digs, two assists and three service points while Jan Carlos Gomez posted four service points, three kills and a pair of blocks. Sparked by the Wright brothers who combined, lost only one game, Saddle River Day blanked Oratory Prep in the NJSIAA North Jersey Non-Public B Division boys tourney, winning 6-0, 6-0 while brother Thomas regist1ered a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 slot. Dylan Slvori completed the straight set sweep of the singles matches, posting a 6-4, 6-3 win at third singles. Connor Walsh captured the spotlight when he drilled a pair of two-baggers driving in five runs and recorded the “W” on the mound to spur the Warriors to a 12-4 rout of Bogota in a NJIC diamond encounter. Adam Badallamenti triple and plated four runs while Mike Salmonese doubled in a run. Patty McHugh doubled in the Patriot Division of the NJIC Track & Field championships contested at Overpeck County Park in Palisades Park. Mc hopped, stepped and jumped 3310 ½ to win the triple jump competition and leaped 16-3 ¼ to capture the gold medal in the long jump. Among the boys, Nick Oravetz tripled in the sprints, racing through the tape in the 100-meter dash (11.2), 200-meter dash (22.9) and 400-meter dash (51.5). Shayna Ocella also legged out a two-bagger while Amanda Squicarini hurled a three-hit shut out to gain the win. Elias Argiris dished off 18 assists and delivered eight service points and Evan Covello registered 10 assists and seven service points while Ryan Brown scooped up 19 digs and was credited with five service points as the Indians rolled to a 5-14, 25-18 triumph over Clifton in boys’ volleyball. SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — AMMO Fight League. On Saturday, May 11th, Zack Fox of the American Eagle MMA/Team Alliance Fight Team won two divisions and secured the Cruiserweight Submission Fighting Title Belt at the Second AMMO Fight League Championships. The tournament was heavily attended by Gracie Jiu Jitsu Schools and the
American Eagle MMA fighter was the only representative from Team Alliance Jiu Jitsu. There were Professional MMA Fighters from the Bellatore as well as Team Link Jiu Jitsu fighters in attendance. Fox finished two opponents via Submission Armbar and one by a dominant decision enroute his title belt. This is Zack’s 4th Championship in a row. He won 1st at the NAGA

Dirty Dozen Move #3 – The Kettlebell Front Squat Contributed by Phil Ross
The Kettlebell Front Squat is a key movement directly applicable to virtually every sport and to ALL sports requiring explosive power and strength positions. The squat is also essential to everyday life. Picking up our child, carrying suitcases, getting up out a chair – to name a few. Many people believe that they can’t squat. However after one short lesson they realize that they can. In most cases, if you can sit on a toilet you are able to squat. We utilize an active negative method of pulling the hips into the squat position. Barring any severe deficiencies or physical limitations, this method has remarkable results – usually the first time it is applied! Why is the Kettlebell Front Squat such an essential movement? The strength gains from the Kettlebell Front Squat experienced in the legs, hips and especially the core are greater and with a significantly lighter load than required with the back squat. When considering Sports Performance and General Fitness, there is a breakpoint where the training required and the muscle size created actually hinders your performance. For example, if squatting 400 lbs. helps you reach a 10.4 second mark in the 100 meter dash,

squatting 450 lbs may not necessarily bring your sprint down to 10.2; you may actually become slower! Yes, your squat will increase, but your hamstrings and hips will become tighter thus slowing your movement. The aforementioned numbers are arbitrary. There are far too many variables in individuals and sports to effectively assign exact numbers. In order to provide accurate assessments, experimentation needs to be conducted on a case by case basis. However, I will add one caveat; if your goal to have an extremely heavy back squat and you are a powerlfter, you need to perform heavy sets of traditional, back squats. Even though the Kettlebell Front Squat (KFS) will help boost your back squat numbers,

you still need to perform the actual movement that you are competing in. The Kettlebell is placed in front of you, whether bottoms up, racked or bottoms down. Compression and core activation is required to stabilize your truck and your spine. Compression, tension and an active negative are all employed as you inhale and pull yourself deep into your squat. The spine is kept long and strong with no “tail tuck” as you get to the bottom. A quick, short and forceful exhale shoots you upward to the fully locked position. The strength of your upper torso is also required/developed to hold the Kettlebell(s) in place as you perform your KFS. Proper power breathing and expansion of your intercostals and serratus, not to mention the development of your pectorals, forearms, biceps and triceps. The muscles that comprise latissimus dorsi are recruited to keep your back straight and strong to handle the load in front. As far as actual weight is concerned, you have to use considerably less weight with a KFS than for a back squat with better results and less chance of injury. On the back squat, the object is to break parallel with the greatest amount of weight possible on your back and then
stand back up into the upright position. One’s back is compromised from having to bend forward to get lower and the hips are also overloaded due to the wide stance. This position does not aide you in developing the strength and proper neural pattern for strength development. On the other hand, the proper execution of the KFS lends itself to activating the Central Nervous System to develop incredible strength the legs as well as in the core/stabilizers. By keeping the spine long and strong, you develop a “Tower of Power” enabling you to move resistive loads and push with your whole body. I could go on and on about the Kettlebell Front Squat, but I’m sure that you only have a limited time to read! You need to get in there and start practicing your KFS! Substantial gains in your leg strength, increased your cardiovascular capacity and explosive power development, while creating a healthy spine and a pair knees, are all benefits of the Kettlebell Front Squat. Strength training is essential for all young athletes. Children’s neuromuscular systems are like “sponges”, ready to absorb and learn whatever skills they are taught. This makes children highly trainable. Most sports require quick, explosive movement, so we must conclude that young athletes need power to perform their sports skills at their best. The most effective way to help them improve their overall power is to help them gain strength. Girls, in particular, who typically do not get the access to the weight room that the boys get, can reap huge benefits from regular strength training, especially at the high school level, where competition heats up for both boys and girls. Young athletes in all sports will perform best if they have enough strength to overcome and accelerate their body weight on the court or field. Training will also help them achieve structural balance protecting their joints and avoiding injury. Sports medicine research has reported that there are over 100,000 ACL injuries in the US each year. Studies have shown that
a female soccer player’s risk of sustaining an ACL injury is two to eight times greater than her male counterpart, and twothirds of ACL injuries are “non-impact” injuries that may have been prevented if the athlete landed effectively after jumping or decelerated effectively when trying to cut across the court or field. Research has also shown that combining strength training with neuromuscular and proprioceptive exercises in an athlete’s training regimen, like those for example, in the Jump! program at Volt Fitness in Glen Rock, NJ, can dramatically reduce the number of ACL injuries. So we know it works, but is it safe? Strength training for young athletes suffers from misconceptions that discourage parents and coaches from having their young athletes’ strength train. In fact, strength training for young athletes improves bone mineral density and growth rather than stunting it, many young athletes are missing out on reaching their
potential because they don’t lift weights. The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and National Strength and Conditioning Association have all published position statements endorsing resistance training for children and adolescents, as both safe and effective. Some of the basic conclusions and recommendations are listed below. A properly designed and supervised resistance training program: • Is safe for youth • Can enhance the muscular strength and power of youth • Can improve the cardiovascular profile of youth • Can improve motor skill performance and may enhance sports performance in youth • Can increase a young athlete’s resistance to sports-related injuries • Can help improve the psychological well-being of youth • Can help promote and develop exercise habits during
childhood and adolescence. Note that the caveat guiding all recommendations is that any resistance training program that a young athlete follows should be properly designed for optimal safety and the performance of that program should be properly supervised. In other words, the right program done correctly will always benefit your child. The wrong program or poorly performing the right program can be detrimental to the young athlete’s performance and health. The weight room is not the place for random approaches or horse-play. Be smart and seek out the help of an experienced and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, so you can make sure that you follow a safe and effective program. Remember that in an athletic world that is more competitive than ever, only the strong will survive. Huntington Learning Center Launches Reading Adventure Program ORADELL, NJ – With summer around the corner, Huntington Learning Centers are kicking off its annual Reading Adventure program for children ages kindergarten through eighth grade. To participate, students first choose books from Huntington’s pre-selected book lists, which include a wide range of high-interest book choices for all grade levels and reading abilities. Reading Adventure underscores the excitement that a good book can bring into a child’s life. Each participating reader receives a reading
“passport” in which he or she record the books he or she reads and writes a journal entry about each. The entire program encourages students to think of reading as a way to explore new ideas, interests, places and people. “We believe that summer is an ideal time to nurture the reading habit because children have more time to read for pleasure than they do during the school year,” says Dr. Raymond Huntington, founder and chairman of Huntington Learning Center. “Our Reading Adventure program is designed with fun in mind. Our experts have
identified a variety of books for children of all ages and reading abilities—stories that engage children and get them excited about books. Experience has proven to us time and time again that the more children read, the better readers they become and the more they enjoy it—and choose it as an activity they want to do.” Huntington’s Reading Adventure program runs from May through August. At the culmination of the program, Huntington Learning Center locations will honor participants’ reading achievements. During the celebration each child is recognized

Team Bergen County Won 1995 GSG Karate Gold Medals

By Dennis Wilson New Jersey was one of the first states to sponsor its own Olympic-style multi-event athletic competitions with the introduction of the Garden State Games in 1983. Like the Bay State Games in Massachusetts and the Virginia Commonwealth Games), the festival had an Opening Ceremony and provided opportunities not only for the youth but also senior citizens to come together in the spirit of competition. By the early 1990s, it had events in numerous sports including karate, road running, basketball, field hockey, baseball, waterskiing and rhythmic gymnastics. Do you remember when Bergen County athletes of all ages had reasons to condition themselves physically and mentally for the Games of Summer? Looking back in history to the 12th Garden State Games that took place on the Piscataway campus of Rutgers University in 1995, Bergen County residents of all ages made major impacts on the medal ceremonies, Team Bergen County with Ramsey’s Angelina Cuomo, Denise Madlansacay of Ho-HoKus and Waldwick’s Elizabeth Scaffifi won the gold medals in karate. In 1998, budget cuts initiated by the withdrawal of corporate support from an auto dealership network, resulted in the cancellation of the 1998 Summer Games and elimi-

nated the full-time staff. Like the Olympics, each sport was responsible for the solicitation of entries and accumulation of sponsors, so in July of 1998, at Montclair State University, there were groups of athletes wearing

one of four different colored jerseys, chasing a field hockey ball around the AstroTurf field. And the words on the front of the uniform read “Garden State Games” and since then, field hockey has been a traveling
show, stopping in venues like Camden, West Windsor and Hoboken. “Field hockey is a survivor’s sport,” said Leslie LaFronz, who has been a part of Bergen County sports for three decades as a high school and college coach as well as a volunteer with the Ridgewood Runs and was involved in the Games since 1985 as a player, coach, and volunteer. “We’re not a money-drawing sport and we’re not a high-profile sport. We’ve always had to pay our own way and done what we needed to do. Other sports aren’t used to that.” Much of the survival of the field hockey event had to do with the same group of volunteers who not only helped start the game, but grew it into a tournament with serious relevance when it came to where it fit in player development. For many of the Garden State Games events, they were either “just another tournament” for the whole recreational soccer or softball teams entered in their brackets, or perhaps the only outlet for their sport all season, as is the case for waterskiing, masters track and field, or rhythmic gymnastics. What made the GSG field hockey event unique was that it also fit within the parameters of the U.S. Field Hockey Association’s player development umbrella. Those chosen for certain GSG teams qualified to the Futures program the next

The Games was one of the first of the “state games” to require standardized skill and fitness testing to enter rather than have the requirement be a postmark on an envelope and was also the first in America to use international rules for U-19 and U-16 play and was also the first to be held on artificial turf. In 1995, karate was big in Bergen County as Dumont’s Nancy Marino, Franklin Lakes’ Anthony Martini, Lodi’s John Mion and Wyckoff’s Angela Vairo were among local residents who collected gold medals in various divisions of karate. New Milford’s Jodie Bokara captured a gold medal in adult gymnastics while Dumont’s Chris Fine finished first in the men’s 25 and older division of the racquetball competition contested at the Sonny Werblin Center of the Busch Campus. Garfield’s Tammy Cosselman and Woodcliff Lakes’ Melva Murry crossed the finish line as winners of their age divisions in the GSG 5K Race that began the competition. Fair Lawn’s Dulcie Kiessekbach and Ramsey’s Kathryn Stur picked up gold medals in their age brackets in women’s bowling. Those were the days but when Governor Christine Whitman pulled the plug on state funding, the Garden States Games became a happy memory of youth, adult and senior athletic competitions that were first held at Rutgers University and then Fort Dix. By Rick Wolff It’s still hard to believe that a 17-year-old soccer goalie — apparently upset by being tagged with a yellow card in a soccer match — was so incensed that he went up to the unsuspecting ref and punched him hard enough in the head to kill him. But of course, that’s ex-
actly what happened in Utah a couple of weeks ago. The boy is now facing some serious charges. And then a few weeks earlier, in a soccer match in the Netherland, a group of 16and 17-year old players, angry with an offside call during the match, waited until the game was over, and then beat and

kicked the ref until he died. Those kids are now waiting to go on trial. For years, we have seen angry parents and out-of-control coaches attack and assault refs, umpires, and officials – in effect, grown-ups being violent. But now we’re seeing kids take out their frustrations in a physical manner, and to me, that’s a new and most alarming trend. Lots of callers on the show this AM had excellent points about this trend. Most pointed out that kids today are overly coddled by Moms and Dads who do their best not to have their kids deal with the inevitable frustrations and disappointments that come in sports. As a result, when kids run into unexpected setbacks, kids look to the sidelines for direction, only to see crazed parents screaming and nutty coaches doing the same. It doesn’t take much for a kid to pick up on those cues, and find themselves on
the attack. Some suggestions: Moms and Dads and Coaches, take the time to explain to kids how to behave when it comes to failure and frustration. Let them know that all sporting competitions have both winners and losers, and knowing to cope with losing is very, very tough. Remind them that the other team wants just as desperately to win, and that sometimes, on that given day, the other team will actually play better. In addition, don’t try so hard to protect your kids from the ups-and-downs of sports. The sooner they understand that losing is just as common as winning, they will be on their way to becoming better athletes. And better citizens. Along with my husband, Dr. Joe Labriola, we devote our time as part of a network of natural healthcare professionals who devote their time free of charge as motivational and keynote speakers, perform spinal screenings for injury prevention and deliver educational workshops at no charge on health-related topics in local communities. This summer, as a part of our Community Outreach, we are donating our time to our local sports teams to offer FREE evaluations to identify the current musculoskeletal condition of your athletes. We know that the more structurally sound the athlete is, the better the performance. Through my own experience of being a high school athlete, I understand that athletes that get the proper screening and assessment perform at their best potential. These screenings include: • Posture • Gait assessment • Muscle length and joint flexibility • Neuromuscular assessment and functional-specific testing. Each screening only lasts around 15 minutes. They are best performed early in the pre-season phase of training, but can be done any time during the season as well. Get your athletes to have their bodies working for them and not against them!
