World Aids Day-01 December Very soon, South Africans will join the rest of the global community in marking World AIDS Day, on 1 December. The theme for 2013 is Shared Responsibility, Strengthening Results for an AIDS Free Generation. As we commemorate this day, we should bear in mind that, HIV and AIDS touch many aspects of our lives. Wear your white ribbon in support of the 16 Days of Activism – 25 Nov – 10 Dec The government is doing all it can to fight child and women abuse. Play your part and support government interventions to fighting gender-based violence. Nationally, there is a call for all South Africans to support the campaign by wearing the white ribbons for the duration of the campaign period. By wearing the ribbons, you will be showing your support and further making a declaration to never condone gender-based violence. Arrive Alive 2013 – Festive Season The Department of Transport launched its festive season Arrive Alive Campaign on 17 November 2013, in the Free State under the theme: Together we can save millions of lives. Government has stepped-up operations through visible and proactive traffic enforcement on all key routes. The festive period is typically a time of high traffic volumes, which require responsible driving. Everybody could contribute to a safer festive season by changing their behaviour when they drive. The department’s Road Safety Education and Awareness Unit will work with the Law Enforcement Wing but government cannot win this battle on its own. Every road user is responsible to make our roads safe.
