MEDIA BRIEFING: LOCAL JOURNALISTS IN Q&A SESSION WITH THE NEW COMMANDER
I
f you didn’t know, there’s a new sheriff in town! With only a month in the office, Major General Nomthetheleli Mene is the newlyappointed Worcester Cluster Police Commander. This past Thursday, Mene met with journalists in a media briefing as an introduction of what is to be expected from the force in her reign. Sitting in a black leather chair covered with a springbok skin; which in an African tradition symbolises leadership and power. Mene is originally from the Easter Cape and she has been in the force for decades since 1998. Based on her experience, she has worked throughout all SAPS ranks from junior to senior management level. Some of the areas she worked in this Province include Grabouw, Stellenborch, and her recent one Khayelitsha. Mene referred to Worcester as a biggest cluster within the Province, but she promised to apply almost the similar practices as she did in Stellenborch in dealing with both urban areas and the farms. In a brief introduction by SAPS Communications Officer, Lieutenant Lindikhaya Mkhontwana, this briefing was only to introduce the new leader on the helm of the Worcester Cluster.
In response to a question about police incompetence and professionalism, Mene promised to practice the Back-to-Basics approach, which was announced by the honourable Police Minister, Nathi Nhleko. Mene also signalled her office as an Open Passage for community media in terms of sharing and distributing insightful and accurate information to communities in this area. “We always need to inform and educate our communities about developments and changes within the force. Our community media is one of those key tools in making sure that valid and accurate information reaches right target audiences” she believes. Currently, her cluster is planning a long list of community Imbizo engagements, were she hopes to interact with communities including strengthening close relationships with all the Community Policing Forums [CPFs] in these communities. With the recent developing trend of mob justice or Bantu-courts in Zwelethemba, her first stop will be this troubled community of Zwelethemba with an escalating number of criminal activities and illegal drugs distribution.

SAVING WATER IS EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILTY
The Mkhosi trio of sisters brought the house into tears as they pulled show-stopping performance in their tribute to Mrs. Ndzima with a worship-song titled “He Leaded Me. If time wasn’t cut short, Yoliswa Mkhosi revealed they would have turned this service into a musical show, she jokes. Jazz’s eldest sister and first-born in his family, Eunice Ndzima outlined key events that led to the passing of her mother. According to Eunice, her mother was everything she could ever ask for in a parent. FIRST ANNUAL FASHION SHOW BY LOCAL DESIGNERS worn on weddings, funerals, and high-profiled events. Sharing about the turn out of this event, Mr. Mrubata “The purpose of the event was not about competition, was to market their products so that people can support the local production” Mr Mrubata explains.
In each and every media platform [radio, TV, print] including social media everyone is talking about water scarcity and drought! As our country is facing water challenges leading to drought in other Provinces like KZN, Gauteng, North-West, and Northern Cape, I would like to personally call-out all Zweletans [young and old] to save water and report water leaks. As the Western Cape province or Zwelethemba community, we might see ourselves as if we are not yet affected by this national problem like our above-mentioned sister provinces, so its not our baby – if you still have that mind-set, you better wake up and smell the coffee. Sad part about this problem, some of our parents become victims of municipal high water bills due to unreported water leaks linked to leaking water pipes and broken taps. Let’s all play our part in fighting this problem

hen Mr. Gigi Mrubata had an idea of hosting a fashion show in Zwelethemba late last year; he never imagined back of his mind it would actually attack so much attention. On a lovely Saturday afternoon, the Zwelethemba Community Hall was the place to be for socialites, bloggers, fashionistas, ordinary citizens who just love dressing up. This venue was exuberant as local designers, Ms. Vangile Mgobhoza and Brenda “Breedo” Matsau came to showcase their exquisite designs. Both these two local talented and experienced designers have been in the field for almost 10 years and their designs have been
While audience was preparing themselves for a big entertaining exhibition, behind-thescenes both these local designers, models and make-up artists were rummaging in making sure to put a most unforgettable first-ever fashion show in Zwelethemba. “This event has a potential to become an annual crowd-puller in the entertainment and social calendar. iving Waters church was packed to capacity as family, friends, colleagues, and congregation of the church gathered in celebrating this wonderful blessed day of both Anele Sihamba and Vuyokazi Tomose. This wedding was officiated by the award-winning Apostle Linda Moses; a qualified marriage counsellor [advisor] and teacher by profession.
Together For Life was the theme of the wedding and Apostle Moses’s message to this lovely couple was aligned to it. In her sermon, Apostle Moses urged married the couple to go back to the basics and apply God’s standards in their marriage and put Him first than anything else. According to the history of the church, Apostle Moses has officiated many weddings since 2001, and she has a clean record of no divorce since then. Sharing about her record, she said: “Also with these two, I have faith that God will bless and unite
them in matrimony and I know nothing can divide was God has ordained”. Climax of this wedding was when both had to recite their vows to one another without any destruction. With tears sliding down on their cheeks, this couple took an oath to love one another in sickness or in health, for better or worse. After being pronounced husband and wife, Anele couldn’t wait any longer for Apostle Moses to announce you may kiss the Bride. “I was so anxious to have her all to myself, I just couldn’t wait for that kiss”, he laughs. Mr. and Mrs. Sihamba are currently enjoying their time together, with no pressure for babies for now as they are in a process of family planning with the Apostle. This week they started a post-marriage counselling programme to assist them in upholding and keeping their vows faithfully.

ALFRED STAMPER TRIUMPH OVER SIYAFUNEKA IN THE INTER-HOUSES SPORTING TOURNAMENT
A
week before writing their June exams, Siyafuneka Primary School and Alfred Stamper Primary School met on Wednesday afternoon for a debut friendly challenge played at ASP sports grounds. ASP junior netball side U/11 nailed the visitors side on the first game of the day with a 14 - 1 victory. The U/13 netball side of ASP suffered a 4 - 3 defeat, as a result of weak defence and lack of team work. The game started off on a snail pace as either side were not willing to give out goals easily, but as the game evolved the visiting side was pushing harder than ASP and that saw them coming on top.
NETBALL GAME: ASP SCORING THEIR 2nd GOAL TO LEAD
On the soccer ground, the U/11 sides gave the crowd an entertaining game that produced six goals in total. The game saw these two side ending off this game on a draw and it was up to penalties to decide the winner. ASP missed two penalty kicks and the visitors capitalized on these mistakes to take up a victory of 4 - 3. Last game of the day was between the U/13 sides. Man of the match, Sifundo Mnceka of Siyafuneka scored a brace [2 goals] which led the home side to trail with two goals on the first half of the game. Unathi Fino and Soyama Mdyeshana of ASP contributed with their brilliant goals that led to a 2 - 2 draw in the second half of the game. In a visa versa situation as U/11, the ASP went out of this game with a 4 - 3 victory which was decided on penalties. Siyafuneka soccer coach Temba Taliwe praised his squads for fighting a good fight until to the end and he hopes his players confidence won't be tainted by their second game U/13 loss. He adds, "both my squads gave ASP a run for their money. My boys displayed a very impressive performance and that highlighted some potential effective combinations which can be used for the next games".
SOCCER GAME: ASP ON LEADING BY A GOAL TO NIL [1 - 0]
Taliwe fired a warning shot to ASP to watch out in the return games, as they won't allow any defeat to prevail when they meet for the second encounter. He said: "We are bringing our A-game when we meet next time, ASP must just prepare themselves". Its confirmed by both teams that ASP will visit Siyafuneka for the return games and this encounter will be hosted at Zwelethemba stadium and the date will still be confirmed. "I have to say our opponents surprised us on both games and we didn't expect this intense competition from the visitors" said ASP Sports Co-ordinator, Mzwamadoda "Junior" Jayiya. Jayiya also admits that some of his players went to the games big headed and that's really almost cost his side. "For the return games after June holidays, I intend to change some of the ineffective players and give game time to those who have been working hard in training" he confirms.
2nd HALF: SIYAFUNEKA DEFENDING ANOTHER GOAL
