MY DISTRICT TODAY MOORREESBURG, WEST COAST MEDICAL CAREER EXPO AND JOB FAIR DATE: 20 AND 21 SEPTEMBER 2013
The Passion of Mr Desmond Philander, a councillor and keen community development worker in the Moorreesburg Community, which is a small town in the West Coast District, ensured that the Moorreesburg Career Expo and Job Fair materialised. Mr Philander Contacted the GCIS, Regional Communication Coordinator to guide and assist in the planning of the expo. The GCIS RCC ensured that all key partners was mobilised and the objectives of the programme was explained. This objective was the following:
To Create an Interactive Programme for the Public, learners at High school level, students at tertiary institutions, parents and education and training providers and organisations in the Swartland Municipal area. The platform is meant to facilitate interaction between the above groups of people such that information and knowledge can be shared on available education and training opportunities and to showcase actual job opportunities at various institution, which will include government, the private sector and civil institutions To highlight initiatives in place to address the challenge of skills shortage in a range of different health sectors. The projects furthermore aim to ensure that information in regards to learnerships, bursaries, employment and entrepreneurial activities are made available.
The overall approach to the project was to create an interactive event that will integrate an exhibition as well as live interactive event and showcasing of various job opportunities especially in the health care sector Learners from seven schools in the West Coast district attend as well as the public in general attended the expo and much needed information was shared with students. Students also received the necessary application forms to apply to various courses and vacancies in the health sector, which include South African National Military Health, The Emergency Medical Service, the Health and Welfare Seta, the Fire Service, and the Hospital sector. The next planned career expo will focus on the Crime and Security Cluster.
Members of the Public also receive much needed information from the GCIS information point.

In interested community member also want to know what all the aspects of the Emergency medical service is about and receive all the necessary attention.
