— Clients have found their way to the new location comfortably. The shared facilities have worked well, and clients can now be served in a more private setting. There is no need to be afraid of grabbing a queue ticket, even if you would be there with a very small question, says Service Advisor

Cycling as an alternative to everyday mobility

Over the next few years, 50 kilometres of high-quality walking and cycling lanes will be built in Vaasa, linking different parts of the city to the city centre. The aim is to encourage as many people as possible to bike by improving the conditions for it.

Short distances make Vaasa an ideal city for cycling, with more than 81% of the population living within five kilometres of the market square.

— The planned light traffic lanes between the city centre and the districts will make it easier to get around Vaasa. In many cases, a bike can be faster than a car, says Samuli Huusko , project engineer for walking and cycling.

Maintenance must also be in place to make cycling possible all year round. The main cycle paths will be upgraded to

Matilda is the new lounge in the main library

In Matilda you can read, do crafts, or watch TV series on a big screen.

The space on the first floor of the library also has a quiet breastfeeding corner for mothers and babies. There’s a sofa and movable seating.

You can also have a coffee or lunch in the library. Café Proosa is open from Monday to Thursday from 10–18, from 10–17 on Fridays and from 10–15 on Saturdays.

There are also other cosy spaces for meetings or quiet work. In the lobby, you can also use, free of charge, various equipment such as a 3D printer or a sewing machine during library opening hours.

maintenance super class, so that cycling is also an attractive option during the winter season.

Other services will also be developed, such as safer parking options for bikes. A good example of this is the cycle garage at the Travel Centre that was opened in the spring.

— We want cycling to be a viable option for everyday mobility in Vaasa. For this to be true, the conditions for cycling must be in order. Cycling must be a convenient and fast way to move from one place to another, regardless of the season, says Huusko.
