At lunchtime and to distinguish the partners from each country, the Croatian students offered each of the participants ties with the flag of their country of origin.

During the 30 Years' War (1618-1648), Croatian light cavalry units were incorporated into the army of what was then Imperial France, where they stood out for their valor, but also for the particular way of wearing a scarf tied around the neck with a knot that came down. by the trunk.

Therefore, in 1664, among the ranks of the French royal army, the Croatian regiment Royal Cravattes was founded.

The typical Croatian scarf attracted the attention of the French and was named after the Croatian word in French - cravatte - and then spread similarly in many other languages.

The French gave the piece a more elegant and refined touch, and at the court of Louis XIV they transformed it into a symbol of distinction and masculine aesthetics.

Its use has spread from France to the rest of Europe and also to America, becoming an outstanding fashion accessory around the world.

To remember these times and the origin of the tie, the Croatian capital, Zagreb, holds every Saturday and Sunday, and also on holidays, from the Monday after Easter until the month of October, the ceremony of changing the guard of the regiment. Royal Cravattes.
