Precedent Study Located in the dense neighborhood of Itabashi-ku, Tokyo, Curtain Wall House is house that shows the bridging between the traditional style and the modern style of Japanese architecture. Even though it does not show directly the image of tatami or shoji screen that we find in the traditional Japanese house, we as an observer can certainly see the modernized Japanese architecture through a quick glance of the house.

Structure

Combined Parti

Even though the Curtain Wall House is not using the traditional style of Japanese architecture, it never fails to show the proud of the Japanese architecture for its simplicity and its organization of spaces. The approach of using curtain wall that spans two-stories high at the exterior faรงade is a really broad and unique idea that let this house marks its existence throughout the architecture history.

Concept Statement This pavillion was designed within the purpose of using the pavillion as temporary art exhibition place or so as gathering venue. Sited on a sloping site, one has to descended downward to reach the most important place. The verticality of entrance shares the similar value of how the facade was treated at both east and west facade. This pavillion consists of two distinct elements overall; the mass and the void. The main events can be planned inside the massing box and the void part is used as more flexible event as well as viewing platform where people can stop there and enjoy the view framed by the vertical columns.

Parti Diagram The overall project has its main focus in CIRCULATION. This project was derived from the thought of intersecting two rectangles with another rectangle that is perpendicular to them. While using rectangular shape to create similarity, the perpendicular rectangle helps creating some variations throughout the overall idea.

Taft house study

University of Illinois. Arch 231. Fall 2012 Taft house is located at 1401 S. Maryland Drive, Urbana IL. The study of taft house was conducted in order to help us understand how to draw basic floor plan, elevation, as well as section cut in AutoCAD program. Every measurement and drawing have been done starting from scratch.
