Grace Notes Grace Cathedral fall 2013
E x p e r i e n c e w o r s h i p, a r t s , education and service this fall at San Francisco’s Cathedral for All
DEAN’S MESSAGE
Robert Taylor
Dear Friends, We look forward to welcoming you to our full schedule of worship and events this fall, details of which you can find in this issue of Grace Notes. Highlights include the culmination of our Year of Music. We hope you will join us for a superb concert on October 23 when we will be premiering a work by composer Paul Haas, a former Grace Cathedral chorister, to the backdrop of our Resident Artist Anne Patterson’s stunning visuals. This year also sees the appearance of the worldrenowned British choral group, the Tallis Scholars, on December 4. Enjoy our fall season of The Forum with guests such as author Richard Rodriguez and Founder and President of CREDO/Working Assets, Michael Kieschnick. Participate in our season of remembering those we love but see no longer in early November, by worshipping with us when the Choir of Men and Boys sings Duruflé’s Requiem on November 10, and by helping to make our Day of the Dead altars, which will be on display in the cathedral for two weeks. As we pursue excellence in the arts as a part of our mission, I am delighted to announce the ArtsMatch funding campaign: a generous donor will match up to $200,000 in gifts to expand our program substantially. We hope you will join us in supporting the arts in this way. Details are on the back cover. This fall we also welcome our new Canon for Congregational Life, the Rev. Canon Dr. Randal Gardner, and our new Canon for Operations, the Rev. Canon Lesley Hay; we gather for our annual meeting on September 29; and we draw together the threads of our strategic plan to bring it to completion. It’s an exciting time in the life of Grace Cathedral, and we are glad you are a part of it. With warmest wishes, The Very Rev. Dr. Jane Shaw G r ac e C at h e d r a l B oa r d o f T r u st e e s Gabriela Strand Bruce
