MEMORANDUM DATE: October 24, 2009 TO: Chairman Donald Sutherland FROM: Grace Halbert, Director of Public Information SUBJECT: ROUTE D AND F DISCONTINUATION Tonight the Cosmopolitan Bus Authority board of directors met to discuss the CarMel Associates study of CBA operations, which suggested that the transit authority’s Route D and F either be discontinued and consolidated with other routes or that passenger fares on the system be raised if CBA is to continue operating without a deficit. The board voted 32 in favor of discontinuing Routes D and F and keeping the present fare, effective Friday, October 31. There are several possibilities for announcing this information to the public. I would suggest one of the following options: • Creating posters for inside all buses and at all bus stops detailing route changes which could be in place Monday morning. • Holding a press conference for all local media outlets on Monday. • Sending a press release to all local media outlets by Saturday afternoon. • Altering the city and CBA websites with an announcement of the changes immediately. • Using social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, to notify the public immediately. Based on our time and budget constraints, I would recommend sending a press release to the local television news stations, radio stations and newspaper which would detail the changes in the routes, the date effective, and direct the public to the CBA website, which should have more information, including maps of route changes. Also, for those bus riders who are not reached by the press release, posters should be put in place. We should decide on our course of action as soon as possible so the public has plenty of opportunities to receive the information. Please contact me at your earliest convenience at 6136091. I look forward to working with you on this announcement.
